    Nice video! You got off easy with that disconnect coming out of the oil pan so well. These things are often a nightmare! If you take the nut off of the outer tie rod ball joint you won't have to fight with the steering knuckle. As long as the tie rod doesn't get turned it won't affect the alignment.
    I get to do this job next Saturday.

    I actually drove with my shaft out for a few weeks because the bering cage on the cv busted during a hella snow storm. Got under there and cut the boot out of the part in the diff to keep junk out then left the nut on the hub. Just leave the bolted end on. knock out the bering cage with a chisel. Then cap the end the goes into the selector.

      U get the best of both types of passenger vehicles and suvs…..if it’s in 2wd the turning radius is better then a small ca can do and not too bad in awd…4wd it has enough ft lbs of torque at the back wheels it pushes its rear end out and doggy tracks in mud when not applying the gas pedal and just letting it coast…if these things weren’t so damned high maintenance and the parts quality so bad they barely last a year..,I’ve had mine for 7 years…it loves to be worked on and given new parts lol….but the pig has kept me alive when most vehicles would have folded…I just put it back together every time a deer ends itself with my trailblazers front end lol …wish I could find a v8 version!

      there is no disconnect on the drivers side. there is the cv axel going directly into the differential gears.

    Good video.. you made it look easy to fry out that housing. Anyways, im.working on same trailblazer, I got the axle out, but I have hard time frying off the whole housing disconnect assembly. I took out 4 main bolts that holds it, well in fact I went go ahead and took the last 4 bolts. I still can't fry out the back end, its like stuck there pretty good. Any suggestions of how to get this out? Thanks.

    • @flyboy2610
      @flyboy2610 Před rokem +2

      I realize this reply is to a 3 month old comment. But it may help others, and that's the point, right?
      The disconnect is corrosion bonded to the oil pan. After removing the 4 bolts that hold the disconnect to the oil pan, take a hammer and lightly tap the side of the housing towards the ground. Then tap it the other way. Don not separate the two halves of the disconnect until it is out of the vehicle. Do this 3 or 4 times to break loose the bond. Now try and gently pry it out, just a bit. Once it moves, push it back in, then pry it out a little bit more. Repeat the in and out process until it comes free. Trying to forcibly pry it out will almost always result in the back of the disconnect breaking off in the oil pan. Then you have to pull the intermediate shaft out and cut the broken housing out.Before you install the new unit, put some anti-seize on the back of the housing.

  • @bdub6942

    Could improperly installing a new CV axle cause issues with your 4WD? Last Spring my buddy changed out my drivers side CV axle and it seemed like it clicked in correctly, I was watching him do it. Didn’t try the 4WD until recently and there’s a problem. It engages but makes a loud KINK sound when I drove it down the block slow. It sounded bad so I put it bad in 2WD and curious now if that axle wasn’t installed right. Appreciate any input.

    I got a 2005 trailblazer. I had it for 3 months, then I noticed the upper front ball joint running on the tire. I went to replace it, then after inspecting it, realized this car had no cc axles.. is that normal? It looks like something should go there. But if so, wouldn't the wheel bearings have gone out already?

      @peteloomis8456 Před 4 lety

      @Busy Worx He is talking about the intermediate driven shaft that goes through the oil pan not the CV axle its self as I assume he has to remove the differential & that intermediate driven shaft has to come out in order to remove the differential !

    Everything was well show good job on detail only thing I didn't like about your video is a used a torque stick and you didn't check the lug nuts with a torque wrench this is a big No-No in any shop can never trust torque stick I was always taught in every shop ever been in mechanic trust that torque stick mechanic can't trust but that's just a saying it's not worth the extra two minutes of using a torque wrench the right way besides that everything was very well detailed and well shown

      The really sad part about pulling that diff out is you gotta take the motor mounts lose and jack up the engine without breaking the throttle body off of it. I saw one video where the guy took the body mount bolts out and jacked the body up far enough for it to come out.

      I retract my comment! As I started taking mine apart I learned it isn’t like some these ones do not have an abs ring on the cv shaft ...

      No, the CV shaft holds the bearing halves together, and the hub from coming out. If you do, hub will come out of the wheel bearing, and the only thing to stop it will be the rotor interfering with the caliper, but you won't be able to move the vehicle without a flatbed from whatever right turn you were trying to make.
