    I found it easier to blow hammer the axle into the pan to make sure it was seated then into the hub.

    Beware there are 4 bolts that hold the disconnect housing not 3 as shown on the video......atleast that's what is on my 2006 envoy .

    After you remove the houseing is there a bearing on the shaft or is the one I see from the actuator housing that broke.? Or do I need a bearing plus the new housing?

      me too. put two bolts, one on each side of the axle and tightened to push the back half. I'm afraid if i tighten them any more they will punch a hole in the oil pan. indust.consult@rcn.com 603 365 0251

    How are you assured the axel is seated properly in differential? Do you put a little grease on the end going into the differential?
    And does the outer end come out of the housing without too much effort?

    why do you show the new disconnect assembly installed at 9:27 and then cut to the new axle going into the old disconnect assembly ? .........and the old bearings and seal look to be intact on the original....what was the problem that required replacement ?.......otherwise .....quite helpful, thanks....Will

    Great video, I'm getting a grinding noise from the driver's side would that be caused by something different? It's not the outer bearing so there an inner bearing for the drivers side?
    Almost sounds like you're continually going over a rumble strip

      I've had axle cv joints do that. They get stiff on part of it. Does the steering wheel wobble a little? Mine was real noticeable and then clear up only to do it again. New axle fixed it.

    Just replaced a front diff on a 2005 trailblazer, worth noting that the back half of that disconnect housing seizes solid into the oil pan. Broke on removal, called wreckers and none are available, wonder why... new housing from GM is around 500$. Be wary do it yourselfers!

    Do you need to check fluid levels for anything? at 4:48 i see that there was alot of grease on the axle when taking it off the disconnect housing. or should you do any servicing to the axle itself? your look different when installing it back; like new. - First Timer

      At 5:03 you can see him picking up the piece that came off..they don’t always come off easy, there are a couple “homemade tools” that people swear by to get that piece out...

    Is the axle disconnect the same on a envoy Denali with a 5.3 as the one with a 4.2 that's what I'm trying to figure out

    Hi guys my trail Blazer a 2006 xlt 6 cylinder had issue of when you selected any postion from 2 wheel high to 4 wheel it flashes then went soild herd transfer case working from inside cab....just would not go into 4 wheel and the front difrentinal would not engaged....my mechanic friend did this for me ...he broke off the disconnect in the oil pan like often happens he ...drilled the old disconnect to get it out of oil pan but was careful not to go into the oil pan ....now my 4 wheel drive is working once again ...maybe this will help others having the same issue ok ...my friend is a mechanic mon thru Friday does work on weekends in his own shop at home ...glad he did this especially with the old disconnect breaking off in the oil pan ....but he got it running and a lot cheaper then a regular garage

    Are there different size bearings on the inner part of the housing for the shaft? Mine is to big for the housing to slide over but my CV joint fits fine on the opposite side of the housing just not the inner. I didnt know if I could change that out or not

    You didn't tell them about the clip that needs lined up on the cv axle use alittle grease on it to hold it in place to slide it in disconnect

    A1 Auto, need some help. Working on this project today, and housing wouldnt come out so I was using a pry bar and tapping the housing and it came off, but the back part is stuck in tranny case. I have a pic, but cannnot load it here. Can you help?

      @@1AAuto I was able to get the broken part out. Want to make sure that all you should see is the axle piece sticking out, no O rings or washers etc. Is that correct?

    when you inserted the cv shaft, will it do in smoothly or will you have to hit it with a hammer to make sure it goes all the way in ?

      Did this fix your problem? I'm having the same issue. When I Switch to 4HI, I can hear the encoder motor working and the TCCM reflects the change, but TB stays in 2HI.

      Im into one right now, to rebuild the actuator due to no availability on complete. its a 700 dollar bill after taxes.

      Can buy complete 4 wheel disconnect with actuator on Amazon for 159$ ....my local auto zone and advance Auto parts want around 400$ just for 4wheel disconnect local junk yard want 175$ for used one ...baught brand new with new actuator for 159$ on Amazon paid friend who is mechanic at local top notch garge $200 labor ...the original disconnect broke off in oil pan which is common he drilled old disconnect in few places watching not to go thru pan and got old one out put new one in now working excellent
