    Those early 02-04 modules were known to fall asleep and not wake up till it was unplugged or the atc fuse was pulled, and giving a no comm or c0550 if there was comm. There's a tsb on it from GM with an update to the tccm to fix it or replacing the tccm with an 05+ one, I'd be willing to bet it's a Dorman reman part from the early models without the update. The tsb is 02-04-21-006E for reference.

    Top quality dorman parts are always a 10/10! I wonder if the transfer case motor has an internal short that caused all of this. OR perhaps the actuator might be going bonkers causing some electrical noise hmmm the actuator might even be a dorman part as well.

    ~14:05 you unplugged the connector with key on/engine running. This likely set codes observed @16:14. I would clear those codes and restart the vehicle and see if they come back. • @haywardsautomotive6156

    HAHA so what brought the module back...cliff hangar! Was it contact fretting between the terminals and during the backprobing the contact was regained, maybe a fitment issue hmmm, several other possibilities including or is it just another crappy Dorman product...makes you want to stay tuned in with some popcorn and beverage of choice. Nice stopping point Ivan! OK now that Part II came out I can disclose the C0550 is ECU/CCU and checksum test failed meaning Dorman module internal; failure DOA...no pulse...DNR!!

When it was returned to me the vehicle would rapidly rev up and accelerate. I've taken it to a mechanic who couldn't determine what causes this. Is the problem a disconnect between the engine, transmission & power train?

    It always struck me as odd that the trend in new vehicles is to automate everything to buttons and switches. I like moving shift controls myself by hand, but evidently people who buy new vehicles like to pushbutton everything. Even the hatchback on our Subaru won't open without using a motor, it prohibits you from opening the hatch by hand.

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  Před 6 lety +7

      100% agree. That is exactly why I drive an older Japanese SUV with a manual transmission, manual transfer case, and manual locking hubs. Most newer "electronic assist" systems are just designed to fail and become more of an inconvenience later on in the vehicle's life!

    • @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics
      @PineHollowAutoDiagnostics  Před 6 lety +5

      I despise ABS in any weather conditions. ABS is good for people who panic and mash on the brake pedal as hard as they can lol.

    • @killer2600
      @killer2600 Před 6 lety +1

      I have to ask do you drive a manual transmission vehicle with hand crank windows and manual locks? If not then you should know why manufacturers "automate everything to buttons and switches." It's what the buyer wants. Sure us viewers of videos like these that do our own repairs cherish mechanical reliability and simplicity. But we aren't the buyers that manufacturers target with new product. We tend to buy used and retain vehicles for longer periods of time than the target market; and, the target market that makes auto companies the bulk of their money isn't interested in "manually" operating their car as their parents did decades ago. When they spend their money on a new car, they want something "new" on it.

    • @chungaleta1234
      @chungaleta1234 Před 6 lety +1

      I recently spoke with a Mexican engineer working for Nissan Mexico. And he told me that back in the day when everything in a car was manual, 85% of drivers were male. Nowadays 50% of drivers are male and 50% female. Women started choosing cars with automated functions and manufacturers had to please their growing market since making cars only for men or only for women was cost prohibitive. It sounds pretty logical to me.

  • @lustfulvengance
    @lustfulvengance Před 6 lety +15

    You know the real problem here is that they replaced a simple lever with switches, control modules, actuators, and electronics!!

    • @killer2600
      @killer2600 Před 6 lety +3

      And it's lovely to not have to reach down to the floor to engage 4WD. Also Auto 4WD where it engages 4WD as necessary and I don't have to think about it is also lovely. Electronics make life simpler and more enjoyable. Case in point, as winter rolls in, no one is complaining that fuel injection has taken away the joy of frustratingly trying to manipulate a choke lever and start a carbureted engine in the freezing cold.

    • @lustfulvengance
      @lustfulvengance Před 6 lety +3

      Killer2600 A lever rarely ever fails, while I understand the convenience of electronic systems , something critical like 4WD should not be overcomplicated. Just think if it failed when you were stuck in snow!
      Honestly these SUV's get HORRIBLE fuel economy anyway so just make it full time AWD and not have any electronics or levers to worry about! A simple viscus center diff and a limited slip rear!

    • @killer2600
      @killer2600 Před 6 lety +1

      I would never consider 4WD critical. Being able to roll down your window at the drive-thru would be more critical but it's not actually critical.
      It's a misconception that mechanical systems are more reliable than electronic ones. Airplanes are implementation and demonstration of this fact. The controls on all modern jets are entirely electronic or fly-by wire as it's commonly called. You'd expect reliability and safety to be paramount when you're flying a plane full of passengers 40,000 feet in the air; where pulling off on to the shoulder when a break down occurs just isn't possible. Technology in aviation isn't bleeding or cutting edge, they only use tech that is time tested and proven. Electronics with fewer moving parts just happens to be more reliable.

    • @snoopdogie187
      @snoopdogie187 Před 6 lety

      Killer2600 where do you live? I consider 4WD much more critical than windows opening. I'm driving a Jeep which needs the door wiring fixed so it doesn't have any windows that open.
      Come winter time, trying to get through the snow that isn't cleared off the streets for who knows how long can be a mess. I did it for a while with FWD, its easy enough, but not trouble free enough.
      I agree electronics can be great. Consumer electronics are garbage. Designed to a price point and then cheapened out even more probably. Aviation electronics can't be cheapened, and they know their consumer will pay whatever price. A jumbo jet that stops working is a huge disaster, a car that stops working is a minor problem overall, mainly a huge issue to a handful of people. BMW and Merceedes can still sell cars that everyone knows in ten years will be a huge mess. Aviation companies have closed for a lot less problems then those cars have.

    • @killer2600
      @killer2600 Před 6 lety

      snoopdogie187: I don't know what you're trying to get at. Something you can live/function without by definition is non-critical. There are cheap garbage mechanical items just as much as there are cheap electronics - given the two the electronic non-moving devices/parts will hold up better than the mechanical device/parts.
      BMW and Mercedes are designed as intended. The perception that more expensive premium/luxury cars are supposed to last longer than their cheaper counterparts is where people go wrong. Luxury makes don't stay in business selling cars that never get replaced. They actually thrive off the fact that their buyers desire modern luxury and will come back many times over for the latest in luxury.

O’Reilly’s was good to replace it but I still had to tear me door apart again. Is it possible to buy OEM parts that are as good as original but with all the original factory bugs worked out? I would gladly pay double for the best made in the USA by real conscientious people.
