I had this problem with my 07 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Before you buy all sorts of replacement, check the connections first at the TCCM controler (the small box underneath your steering wheel) and make sure they are properly seated and pressed down on the connectors. You can use a zip tie to properly secure 3 connectors. I did this fix and the selector switch worked right away. Thank me later.

PSA, if you still have the truck and get really bad MPG's you should replace all your coil packs. I bought a 03 Trailblazer nearly a decade ago with a little over 200k miles on it and I typically got a calculated (miles driven divided by gallons to refill) MPG of 14.5 MPG driving to work and back which dropped to 13.8 MPG when only driving to town and back, with one random 16.5 MPG one time on an all highway tank, well long story short I (now at 245k miles) started to feel a miss one night when out driving, I went on Amazon and bought a cheap set of replacement coil packs for like $80 shipped, I put them in and drove a nearly 900 mile road trip over the course of the following week, on that trip I had a 4 tank average of 20.3 MPG, an 18% increase over my previous best and a like 30-40% increase over my normal daily driving. now at almost 247k miles on the odometer the truck is running stronger and with higher gas mileage then the whole time i've owned it, now I'm attempting to solve my 4WD issues so I can get this truck back to 100%.

+crunchybobjones No lights on my switch and would not engage four wheel drive. The problem was with the transfer control module, which has a history of going bad on the early trailblazers. Took it to the dealer recently for other problems and had it replaced and programmed while it was there. It cost $290 for the module and about $200 for the labor.

$25 at Oreilly;s for the switch, then the controller, too? Why did you switch both? You showed it in 2 wheel drive but then didn't see if it switched into the other 4 wheel high and low or auto? So you replaced 2 parts so you don't know which part failed?

I have a problem and can't seem to find it. My 2002 TB I6 4x4, while driving in 2HI, it'll go like into ( feel like neutral ) although still in gear. I have to stop then and adjust the switch to A4WD before she'll will move again. Then she'll drive fine again, but as soon as I switch her to 2HI, a while after, the same happens again. The oil level is correct... I also found that when I switch the transfer case to Neutral, I can still move her when I select D or R... Could the problem be the shift motor?
    Would appreciate the help.

Gas hog?!?!?! haha youre funny. I have an 03 Trailblazer LTZ as well as an 03 Yukon SLT and the TB is a sipper with the 4.2 inline 6cyl. compared to the 5.3 V8 pushing around the 6,000lb truck. If you are that crunched for good MPG's then get a 1992 Geo storm my friend. They had a nice little 1.0 liter 3 cylinder putt putt motor which cost $20 to fill in todays market!!! haha. Just think about a few things...

You have to put the shifter in neutral whenever you switch 4x4 settings! My 06 TB front end doesn't engage I can hear the actuator moving. The rear end locks up how it should. When I put it in 4 low it drops the gearing down but still doesn't engage the front end? Anyone have that problem? Thank you!

these electronically switched ones only require shifting to Neutral for 4Lo per the OWNERS MANUAL, but there is a maximum speed you can be driving at while switching into the other modes, I don't remember the exact number but it's about 50 MPH and the light will just sit there blinking till you slow down enough for it to engage, YES it's "Best Practice" to always be stopped and in neutral, especially with the crappy shift forks used in these trucks, but it's not a you must always kinda thing.

You don't know what fixed it? Going to do one today. I've decided to just replace the TCCM. But it could be the switch. And it could also be the transfer case shift motor. Gonna get expensive for my customer but I'm not sure what the problem is yet. I'll report back.

Your actuator is out I'm don't know exactly the name of it but there is a device on the side of the driver side if you open up where the fuses would be there is a black electronic board that has three plugins to it that could be going out or they actuator down by the transmission is going out I write a common thing that the wire power wire to it ends up breaking because it rubs on the frame of the car she might want to check the hot wire that runs underneath your car down to your actuator somewhere in there it could be broke to where the actuator is not getting power to turn it to 4hi 4lo in all of that I would definitely check the wire that has been everybody's problem is the wire rubbing on the frame and breaking underneath the car you got to follow it from the actuator on the transmission you'll see the little actuator it looks like a starter to me then you follow the wires that are coming off of it and you follow it all the way through the frame of the car underneath and you just keep doing that and somewhere there's going to be a wire broke you have power to the switch as you could see cuz I'm mine I have no power to my switch at all and mine is the wire being broke and I need a new board circuit board there like 30 bucks and that's the board I'm talking about the side of the driver side that you need to replace but you have power to yours so that means somewhere from that switch down to that actuator you have the broken wire somewhere I guarantee you you fix that wire and then that's going to start working again

All other electric is good and working. Do you think the problem is the switch or something more diabolical? Only 30-40 dollars for a new switch, maybe swap it out and move from there?
