  • With 167039 miles, I changed the actuator and the 4wd selector switch, The Trailblazer will change between 2HI and Auto 4WD But will not go into 4 Hi or 4 low , You can hear the actuator doing what it needs to do, and even hear it kicking into 4 hi and 4 low but only the back wheels dig and nothing else.

I had this problem with my 07 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Before you buy all sorts of replacement, check the connections first at the TCCM controler (the small box underneath your steering wheel) and make sure they are properly seated and pressed down on the connectors. You can use a zip tie to properly secure 3 connectors. I did this fix and the selector switch worked right away. Thank me later.

so, for anyone still looking for a fix, all you need to do is replace the actuator housing, not just the actuator, your're welcome

Remove the front differential actuator again. The actuator pushes in and engages the gears inside the front differential locking in 4x4 sometimes the location wear the actuator pushes in on the differential is frozen. I was able to free mine by pushing it in and out manually with a 1/4 extension used for sockets and getting it to free up. When you push it in it should push in easily by hand.

Transfer case? There's an electric motor that shifts the transfer case to engage to 4x4 hi or low. driver side looks like a starter with wires on the transfer case.

Have you changed the fluid in the transfer case? The original manufacturer's guide was that you never have to change it, but the prevailing experience of owners has proven that the fluid must be changed about every 50,000 miles. If not, the motor will not be able to rotate the mechanical selector inside the case, due to "gunk." The Auto-Track II fluid is currently over $20/quart at the GM dealer--and it takes 2 quarts--but it's the only thing that works in these trucks. You can usually find it cheaper on ebay, if you're willing to wait a few days for it to arrive. Also, the transfer case control module (TCCM) is notoriously fickle. Sometimes pulling the fuse (#8 in the fuse box under the hood) for 30 seconds or so, will re-set or "wake up" the TCCM, if that's the problem. But a lot of folks find themselves having to replace it (not cheap, but a used one may be a real cost savings to you).
Another potential problem is the fluid in the front differential. A quart of synthetic 75W-90 oil will do a diff oil change, but if it's been a while since the last change, it may take a while for the old fluid to drain out. Again, old gear oil will make it challenging for the 4wd selector to work. Synthetics aren't cheap either, but cheaper than the Auto-Trak from GM. And it does need to be synthetic.
Hope you've got it going! Good luck, brother!

Mark White thank you for the information I have not changed anything other than the module here in the video, come to find out the module wasn't the problem either so I returned it I did put it on a lift, and had all four tires off the ground and the four-wheel-drive was working but placed back on the ground and it won't work.

@@jbshomestead7694 Did you happen to figure out what the poblem was? I have a 02 and It will not go back to 2hi it will blink for a bit then it will light up the 4wd ANd I stomped on it in the snow and all 4 wheels peel out. It just started this today. We originally put it on AWD and kept it like that for past 2 days. I tried to put it back to 2HI and it keeps lighting up the 4WD. It won't light up the 4LO ... But it does go back in AWD... So basically only AWD and 4WD only work , or light up. Cant get it to go back to 2hi ... Do you have any suggestions. Thank you kindly..

@@G15marino yeah the gears needed to mesh up together all I done was backed up the hill in 2-wheel drive, and once the back wheels started spinning I kick it in 4-wheel drive and everything started working from that day forward

My 4x4 wasnt working at all. Switch said transfer case was engaging, and you could hear both transfer case motor and front axle motor working. We replaced the front axle actuator, and now it is working in Auto4, but still no power to the fronts in 4Hi or 4Lo. On a lift, you can grab a front tire and spin it, the other side will spin the opposite direction. But in the ground, there is no power to fronts, even tho i feel the binding when turning on pavement in drive and reverse. Tried doing a hill like this, and Auto4 climbed it, but 4Hi and 4Lo only spun the rears.
So after replacing the front axle actuator, it now works just like the one in this video.
    Any ideas?

I recently bought an ‘05 TrailBlazer LS with 167K miles on it and the previous owner was an old dude never used the 4x4 option, due to this the mechanical parts got jammed and would not switch into any 4x4 option and the selector lights would just blink and the 4x4 service light would litup in cluster panel.
One day I was just trying to switch in 4Lo randomly and twisted the selector multiple times it finally engaged.
Now all the 4x4 options work perfectly but the selector light blinking issue is the same and the 4x4 service light would still lit up.
I dont wanna harm my vehicle so what could be the best thing to get this working correctly?

Did you ever have a problem where after using 4wd and going back into 2wd the truck would run for a while then make a sound like it was dragging aluminium then BAM kick out of gear? It did it to me twice and I would have to go up and down on the shift before it would go back into gear.

J&B's Homestead awesome to hear that. I was guessing the gears in the transfer case weren't catching right after it was engaging. Might look into changing the transfer case fluid too.

J&B's Homestead I've tried it all. Maybe I'll try spinning the tires, but I've been in reverse, park, and neurltral. I'm thinking I need to replace the switch or tccm. It resets to 2wd after sitting for an hour or longer.

I am not sure if you're still fighting this, but I found a solution when I discovered the 4wd high and low were not working, but indicated as "working" on the dial. I had Active 4WD, which was a blessing when I got stuck in a snow drift. I ended up replacing the encoder motor on the transfer case, which solved all my problems. Not once did I have anymore issues. It was like Christmas morning having that 4x4 work again. This was on a 2003 GMC Envyo Xl.

@OU-xc4os I put it in reverse and backed up the hill one night and spun the tires when it was raining and the gears meshed together and 4x4 had worked jut just up until i got rid of it last year. I took it to a a shop and that is what they told me as well as the gears are not meshing together I thought that they was just putting me off. and I spun the tires while it was in 4x4 and it kicked into 4x4 and has worked ever since.
