I have a 2004 & 2008 GMC Envoy 5.3 ltr. This video is so DEAD ON TARGET with the issues. So far currently 147, 000 mile range but also near the 15-20 year mark on my Envoys these issues have arose already. The front hub assembly’s BOTH the sensors and the alternator. But if it hadn’t been for this video I’d of never known about the sensor with the steering position. That’s my issue in my 04 currently. The other is my ABS light in both envoys. Wish I could figure out that one. Thank you 1A Auto for your videos and you GREAT PRICES , Parts and Customer service . Most of all your time in making these videos because you put repairs in a simple and easy to understand laymen terms for us DIY mechanic’s.

I've had my '05 since new. In 144,000 miles, I've done brake pads (still on original rotors but got custom made braided hoses), suspension bushings (ball joints and struts/shocks on the rear while I'm at it), spark plugs (ignition coil boots, oxygen sensors and injectors cleaned on ASNU machine with new Viton seals and stainless basket filters since I'm in there) a radiator and a water pump. Electronics wise, I've replaced the rear CHMSL but that's been it. I've also been on top of all oil and fluid changes every 25,000 miles (engine oil by the OLM). This has been a pretty reliable vehicle as far as I'm concerned, even with the dreaded 4L60E that I've run nothing but TES-295 in since day one.

I have a '05 Envoy SLT since 2006, got it at 19k miles and now has 166k. The video on the window regulator was very helpful and I ordered the part from your company. This Envoy has several problems but I want to fix it up. My kids grew up with this car and I don't want to give up on it. Problems: stalling/hesitation, speedometer and fuel gauges out, A/C intermittent, radio static, and needs a body panel replaced or repaired. Just replaced a window regulator and already had to replace the little plastic connectors on each end of the transmission shift selector cable. It's had not one but TWO water pumps replaced and had to get towed each time. But that was years ago. I want it to keep going!

I have an 08 Envoy SLT, the Ignition issue is for every envoy, even the GMC Jimmy's. The other issues that envoys have is they tend to get electrical shorts. They also get secondary intake issues and evap leak issues.

One thing I didn't see was the factory power steering cooler. I am up in Canada and have owned 3, 2 Envoy 4.2L and 1 Saab 6.0L, and all three had the same part rusted out about the same age (6 years old) even with annual rust protection oil spray. Out of the blue the power steering pump will make noise and when you check it there is no fluid. New replacements are much better quality and thankfully have never needed replacement again. I still have 1 Envoy and know where the 2004 is, both running great with 250K + , my 2006 besides brakes and tires has pretty much original everything under the hood, except Power steering cooler, power steering lines and 3 sets of wheel bearings, 1 due to stabilitrac errors and I did have a weird one where the truck would stall every time you put on the left turn signal. A bad ground connection on the firewall caused this by the fuel pump and turning signal shared the same one. The other 4 issues you mention have not been a problem yet... I am likely on borrowed time but this truck has been amazing and very reliable really.

👌 Best video by far for my GMC Envoy 07. Every-single-one you mentioned I had fixed or I'm currently fixing again. I swear I have watched soooo many CZcams videos about this car I feel as if I specialize in Envoys.
Anyways... Can you do a video on on the Throttle sensor unit? This seems to be a big problem for us envoy drivers. That and the door actuator needing replacement due to the air and heat not coming from the front facing vents.
And recalls on this car.... SO many recalls. One due to the driver door getting too hot and fires have been reported in the past. My door gets real hot itself even after I brought it in for one of the many recalls.
But... I definitely need a video on how to clean the throttle and/or replace. That's my current reading on my check engine light. I also carry my jump box with me because my car won't start probably 3x a week. Ugh.

Great vid on a pretty great (but not perfect) vehicle. I have an 03 Envoy XL SLT with the excellent 5.3 V8. 245k miles, gobs of power with my 4.10 axle option, and relatively good mileage for a heavy V8 beast. Have had ignition key issues (wouldn't shut ignition off and release the key), Front wheelhub bearings, and replaced most of the worn out steering/suspension. There's also a battery draw, could possibly be stereo/alarm system (I just pulled fuse), OnStar system (pulled fuse), short in driver side door (nothing electrical in door works except power locks, sometimes seat heaters come on randomly), and likely frayed/grounded wires in the troublesome XL hatchback. 4X4 isn't working, and there's a loud knocking under dash related to Automatic Climate control upon starting vehic. Other than buying someone else's electrical gremlins and uninspiring soccermom-mobile handling, I love it, particularly the modified LS engine.

Man some of the problems you guys are naming I've never ever dreamt of in my Envoy! Heating door issue what the heck is that??Over 276,000 miles & still running strong, except a cam position sensor code and upper intake gasket leak other than that she's great! I have a 2003 Envoy XLT with the 4.2ltr inline 6 with all the bells & whistles except sunroof! I love this thing and wish GM would bring it back with modern styling better interior materials and better gas mileage! I'm about to purchase a 2005 Denali XLT AWD for $300 needs engine and transmission but the body and interior are in great great condition compared to mine! I have a personal mechanic that can do the work very reasonable for me but I'm wondering about the reliability of the 5.3v8 heard they have lifter issues due to the cylinder deactivation process GM used. Is this a good buy for $300 also I can get the motor & trans for a discount because of my mechanic!!

I have asked so many on these videos about a problem I'm having with my 2002 envoy and can't get a direct answer to my question maybe it's because no one has had the same exact problem. But I'm trying one more time.
My 2002 Envoy has a little over 200,000 on it and until February of this year it has a been a great vehicle. But one day I was driving down the road at 55 mph and all of a sudden it was like I had no gas. At first it sputtered like it was running out but the gas needle said it had 1/4 tank and I knew it was not out. But I pulled over and sat there for about 10 minutes and turned the key and it cranked up instantly. I drive it about 5 miles and it happened again and I pulled over and shut it off. It would coast idle for several miles but when I pushed the pedal it got no gas. This happened 4 times until I made it home. The check engine light never came on. The next time I drove it was after the fuel filter had been replaced. It did the same thing after I drove it for 5 to 10 miles. The last time it was test driven the check engine light did come on and it said shut engine off. This had never happened before. My mechanic friend came and picked up and had it for a few weeks. The next time we test drove it it went further before it happened. It went 25 miles and this time it coasted for a mile and when the gas pedal was pushed it picked back up and it was driven another mile to his house. It has had several diagnostic tools hooked up to it but it doesn't show any codes. I replaced the battery as well as the fuel filter. But we don't know what else to do without taking it to a shop that has access to gm diagnostic app. I've seen so many videos and stories where people were advised by mechanics to replace fuel pump and after they spent a thousand dollars doing that they found out it was not the problem and instead was a sensor or some other less expensive part. Does anyone know anything about this or what it might be?

I have a 2004 Envoy I have only had it about 6 months. 147,000 miles. My transmission slips from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 but only when I drive it longer distances.
It doesn't do it driving around town?
I wouldn't think the transmission wouldn't go out with lower miles. ? Any ideas?

Had the same problem as well and in my case it was the instrument cluster. I went through that sucker trying to figure it out. After what felt like a lifetime checking with a volt meter it ended up being the cluster. Replaced cluster all was fixed.

Ignition switch on my envoy caused "reduced engine power " and gave a code pointing to the throttle body. Wasn't the throttle body, it was the ignition switch getting or not reading the correct voltage.

Pulled over and let vehicle sit for like 10 minutes, started, drove away like nothing had ever happened. Had no clue it was possibly ignition switch until now. TY!

I think my ignition switch is bad on my 03. It has 102k, on my odometer. When I put the key in it won't turn over and the driver seats starts adjusting itself instead of turning over. (I got my foot on the brake while trying to turnover) I have gotten it to turn over only a few times, it runs great other than that.

I replaced my ignition switch myself after countless efforts to figure out what was wrong (replaced alternator battery etc thought it was a wiring issue) eventually got to ignition switch and when I took the old ignition switch off which was clearly the one that the manufacturer had put in the car because of the way it was zip tied into all of the other elements when I took it out I noticed that one of the metal prongs that was supposed to be inserted into the switch or whatever was completely bent down flush so it had never been completely plugged in or connected in general and it was just probably catching friction which was pretty frustrating because it was a big issue I had for a long time and I couldn't figure out what it was and to know that it was from the freaking manufacturers installing it incorrectly was pretty I can't even think of a word dumb basically lol

They should add a disclaimer, the first 2 items only apply to the 4.2 I6 engine, they don't apply to the 5.3 V8. #3 only applies to vehicles that have traction control systems, and equipped, which was a 2005-09 thing only. The last 2 items apply to all years and models. I would only add the 5.3 V8 AFM/DOD systems are problematic, and only apply to the 2005-09 model years.

Been having problems with my 2005 GMC Envoy XUV sle, it has 394,000 miles and still runs strong... amazing vehicle.
The problem I've been having lately, is an occasional dead battery and all the gouges drop to zero and the battery warning light comes on. After a minute or so, sometime less, all the guages return to operating normal. Checked the battery, alternator, and even added an extra ground wire from the motor to the body.
Recently, I was told that it could be the ignition switch.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

    • @christopherzube551
      @christopherzube551 Před 2 lety

It is possible. However Ive also seen the cluster be the issue itself with parasitic draws. Had to replace one and also decided to add a extra ground from the cluster to the body in case if the original ground in the wire harness might be the issue and not have to tear it apart again.
