DISCLAIMER I do not have lymphedema, I am simply a lymphedema physical therapist. I genuinely understand that this is not easy to self-bandage and that I am not limited by my motion to do it independently. Many will need assistance from others for help. Per request from some of the individuals I work with each day in the clinic, this video is meant to help someone (and possibly a caregiver) follow along for set-by-step simple bandaging at home. I work with my patients to find modifications for positioning at home, as well as different styles of bandaging and padding, and I encourage everyone to work with his or her CLT to do the same. I hope this is helpful mostly for those who are new to bandaging or cannot get to his or her CLT for COVID or access issues. Thanks everyone!

I found lymphedema therapy to be useless, including the $10,000 air pump things they sell you. My legs were hugely swollen and I was hospitalized with sepsis. The therapy didn't reduce my size at all, but my therapist got me sized for a FarrowWrap classic (i'm sure other brands can accomplish the same) reduction kit. It had to be custom because my leg was so large and deformed. Nearly overnight, and in a couple days following my leg size reduced dramatically. I was able to then get regular non-custom sized FarrowWraps and keep my legs wrapped for 23 hours a day.
These things saved my life. My skin healed and my fibrosis softened. If I don't keep them on all day my skin will harden again and swell back up, so I have to keep them on for the 23 hours a day but I'm no longer constantly getting sick from the infections in my leg. Sometimes I use foam wrapping but I never do anything as intense as the wrapping shown in this video and it's mostly the FarrowWrap that does all the work and even with my lack of mobility I can still apply it myself with relative ease. I do have a lot of problems with it sliding down and having to rewrap it frequently but it's still better than this intense wrapping that is entirely impractical for someone like myself.
Thank you for this video! It has been such a helpful resource for being able to bandage myself!
Very very informative! I deal with Lymphedema in my entire leg from Synovial Sarcoma Cancer. So when I came across your video I was excited to watch it. Thank you so much for sharing! I am excited to see what else I can learn from you!
OMG Thank You So much
The theory and practice that you do is very on point 🙏
Great info, thank you. I've been researching info for compression wrapping to help my mom.
I'm less than 2 minutes in and had to pause to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for saying what my tears and painful legs have been screaming about for weeks! I cannot put on any of the countless pairs of compression socks I own. I even purchased new extra large, light compression just to try something else. (FYI I'm 5"2 and 94 pounds... There's NOTHING extra large about me except my venous insufficient legs!) Even the big ones gave me pressure type bruises at various points on both legs. I don't need more pain! You're the first pro that has said socks are for maintenance! I'm gonna restart the video and take copious amounts of notes. Bless you!
Oh you're so welcome! I really hope you can find some relief!
Thank you for all you do!
Great illustration.
Thank you
I went to a Lymph care clinic and they showed a slight different technique in wrapping. Your video was allot easier to follow than what they try to teach me. I didn't have a good experience there either, the Therapist were not consistent with technique in massage and wrapping. Very frustrating
I know do my own massage and wrapping. I was told by Lymphadema physician that I had had too many vein removal and vein closures, made my insufficient vein problem worse. After 2 different Lymph care clinics, I had same experience that Therapist were not consistent and didn't stay in room long enough to complete 40 minutes of message as prescribed by Doctor.
I have insurance delima. My United Health Dual complete said they would pay for all bandages and 40% of support stocking if the clinics would bill them correctly on part B with adequate diagnoses. The clinics told me " we don't bill this way" I'm now stuck with the bill of bandages.
You are AMAZING ! Thank you so much for your channel you are so kind and helpful with your videos - I subscribed.
Well done great tool for patient education
U explained everything thoroughly! Nice video. I have lyphadema in the left arm. It's mild an im tryna keep it that way! Staying on top of home treatment and lymphatic appts. Thx 😊
That was so very helpful. I’ve just recently been diagnosed, but must wait a month to get my first apt with a lymphedema certified PT. I’ve discovered you on you tube and it was like finding treasure. Can you guide me as to which things I can do or should do until I get that that apt. My vane Dr did get me full legs compression garnets with the pump. Thanks a million. R😀
Very well explained thank you
thank you for this information I appriciate your teaching
You are very kind and sweet and very helpful. Thank you for these videos. GOD bless you! ♥
It’s really hard for me to do, all this wrapping, I had a spine surgery, but thank you
From the description above: *DISCLAIMER* I do not have lymphedema, I am simply a lymphedema physical therapist. Thank you so much for the video and for all the effort you're putting in this channel! It's most helpful!
Thank you so much for this video and all of your other videos. Yes, I wish it was that easy for us with large heavy legs who do not have the ability to lift our heavy heavy legs or range of motion, bending, arm length or strength like we used to have. It’s hard to bandage from above and do it correctly and keep the bandages from falling down. For me it’s almost impossible, takes hours, tears and frustration.
Could I please have your opinion on using the reduction kit systems available? I’m not mentioning a brand so you don’t feel like you are endorsing a particular product. I feel that, for myself, these type of adjustable compression wraps would be much more manageable. I have no one to help. Please respond. Thanks again!
Love your videos. Thank you!
4atttT5 HAS BEEN
Just a follow up! At least from your channel, I was prepared for what to expect and asked questions ! We bandaged, and have moved to Velcro’s wraps, Circaid, so thanks for that discount code! Very helpful. Now we are getting compression pump pants. Life goes on. And you’re very valuable to all of us who find you. Thanks much. R
Love your videos, so much more information then given from my physical therapist! I’m not able to see your link on the materials you used I would love to purchase them. I may have better success if I used them and your teaching. Thank you for your support with lymphedema! Also do you have any videos dealing with PRIMARY Lymphedema? Is there more to know with this kind!
You make the bandaging so easy. I usually get frustrated with wrapping.. I'm definitely going to get the Rosidal soft foam. I have the bulky grey foam. As for the stockinette I saw one that was a mesh material..
Great information thank you
I have had swelling in my complete left leg for the last 40 years. No one could tell my mom the problem as a child, so I bore the swelling. It wasn't until the 2000s that I found someone who told me I had Lymphedema and sent me to a therapist. The therapist placed my leg in a machine to pump the fluid but instead, the fluid went into my right leg. Now I have two swollen legs! I found another therapist at Good Shepard who did the wraps using the technique you use. It doesn't alleviate the condition but it does help.
They also need to do lymphatic drainage techniques to provide a pathway for that fluid to go. Sending the flow up to axilla (armpit) depending on medical conditions.
Thank you so much♥️
Very helpful but I need to watch at least 10 times.
Thank you very much
I have a swollen left arm, can I do the same thing with my arm? I have cancer in the left breast and in the lymph nodes. I did not have any surgery. Thank you. I find many of your videos very helpful. Lots of things already helping my symtoms.
do you prefer comprilan (BSN) to Rosidal K (LR) - if so, why? is the rosidal soft as effective as gray foam? I have to bandage my first patient and had every intention of using my THICK gray foam for dorsal foot/shin that I got from my course 😄
Thank you for this video, very useful. I would like to ask is it ok to use a bandage for a person who's got lymphedema together with Charcot foot? Will the pression be safe for Charcot foot?
I have great difficulty doing the wrap myself because I can’t reach around my large legs. I don’t have anyone who can do the wrap for me. Is there any adaptive equipment or techniques I can use?
is doing the massage possible while the leg is wrapped?
Is Conco Conforming Stretch bandage the same as the Elastomull?
I find the conco stretches out and is not uniform when wrapping.
We'llappreciate if you show us a real patient before and after bandaging . Thank you for sharing!
We took a class to learn the proper way to wrap my brother's leg (amputated below the knee due to complications of Diabetes) as well as his other, full leg. The therapist showed us how to create a 'herring bone' pattern rather than the 'tourniquet-style' demonstrated in this video. The results were remarkable and allowed for proper blood flow.
Yes! I just learned that technique recently in a video. It really does spread the pressure out more evenly
Any ideas for keeping upper thigh wraps to stay up my ottherpisthas tried many things. Now have my custom fit maintenance wraps and they do the same slide down as soon as I move?
what does the padding/foam do
I have a question my swelling is above my knee so how do I wrap the isolated area? Is it important to do the whole foot an leg just for a isolated area any suggestions. Thanks Terri
any chance of doing a video compression wraps for a morbid obese person. I have yet to find a therapist that can properly wrap my thighs. As soon as I get up to walk, they fall down. Now, my lower legs are well managed but the thighs are like huge bowling balls. It is very frustrating. In the new year, I am being measured for compression biker shorts in hopes that will help, but sill unsure how the compression will be there with having such a large stomach. My wife is the one that wraps my legs daily, and she loved this video; the way you presented it, and how you explained things in full detail.
Hi Kelly, I'm in the UK, I am not sure if you can advise, but I'm pretty sure that a doppler assessment to check for blood flow in those areas should be done before any compression takes place
I agree. I also live in the U.K and never had a doppler test which is non invasive and I have venous insufficiency. My legs are tired and heavy and cannot walk well. Due to resources it is hard to get good medical care now
Get your GP to refer you to a leg ulcer or lymphoedema clinic. There are many.
Thanks for the video; I thought it was good check to see your recommendations. I have secondary lymphedema, and I have been bandaging my right leg for over 6 years at night. I also wear a compression stocking during the day as another component of my daily routine to manage the swelling. I no longer bandage my toes but rather wear a compression toe cap; it is much simpler and it keeps my toes from swelling. You are right about the baby toe area as being very sensitive to pressure. I always make sure that my wrapping is well below it.
Thanks again!
Hi! Can I do the same for lipedema?
I just want to know how long we should keep bandages on both legs,??if there is any pressure variations will affect breathing pattern??
I have lymphedema in my leg after my hyterictomy because some of my lymnodes we're remove can I order from you
Is normatec good for lymphedema.
If the swelling is only at the top of the thigh, would you only wrap the top part of the leg?
What kind of tape do you use?
How can I buy compression stocking
How do you wear shoes after doing this?
Di you have to wear this 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
I really want and could use the relief. I am a big guy with veneious insufficiency. I wish I could wrap myself. I just don't have the movement. I brought it up to my doctor. I just don't know what to do.
Can these bandages be reused ? I am going to be doing this for my mom but her Lymphedema is really bad and she’s swollen up to the hip. There’s not much information i have from a certified doctor or physician and the little i know is what i have been able to learn on my own. I am desperate for help (information) she’s in a lot of pain constantly and isn’t able to even walk to the bathroom.
Oh my goodness, i would like have a voice like that.
🙏 Kelly
I'm trying it on myself and my legs are huge but soon enough I'll be lower with my legs 🦵 it's hard but I have to do what I have to do???
If you have Insurence see if they cover home wound care / cleaning and wrapping your legs . I have blue cross and they cover 35 home care visits , we broke up to 3 times a week and it works out fine .. I had surgery and in my left leg I had 2 cancer soresand 1 large Infected area 4 inches deep . the doctor cleaned it all out . So now it is healing from the inside out .. If you wrap your self make sure you use latex gloves so you dont reinfect the area ..
Oh wow thank you for that info. My doctor prescribed the wrap for me today. Your info was so very helpful. I never even thought that having wrapping done could be covered under insurance. I'm going to ask my insurer about it.
@@missm5506 it’s covered as long as it’s done by a qualified medical person or at home care. Usually supplies are not covered if you do it. But still check with your insurance. All policies are different.
In the UK its all covered by the NHS no matter how many times, the visits, specialist referrals and the bandaging. Private insurance is a con.
I have primary hereditary lymphedema. I inherited it from my mom.
I'm looking for the links you mentioned to purchase wrapping products on line, but can't find them. Thanks.
Nevermind, found them :-)
I found mine on Amazon.com and walmart
Hi Kelly, thank you for this video. I had to wrap my mother's leg for 6 weeks because it was so swollen I had to get the leg down small enough to fit on a compression stocking. I went into the office of a woman that does what you do and learned by watching her two times and then I did it myself. Is there any way we can communicate privately? I don't expect you to spend any lengthy amount of time, I just have a few questions. When I learned to wrap my mother's leg the woman had me do four different types of wrapping and one of them was referred to as the herring and I see that you did not do it and that is what I wanted to ask you about. My mother has a DVT where the leg meets the groin and that is what causes her problems.
USians: in the UK we have nurses that come to your Grandma's house and does this for her fully funded by the NHS. Just saying.
Louise Occhiogrosso- If you are still interested, you can search the doctor's name on the 'net. I think she is the one in the upper mid-west. It can't hurt to ask her office.
I live in the U.K and cannot get home treatment. I have to use transport arranged to go to the clinic and have my bandaging done. It is hard to move and I would have liked home treatment. It would also be cheaper and less stress travelling to collect other patients and I may have a 3 hour there to the clinic and 3 hours home dropping patients home. Tedious
Thank you! Where are the links for the products you used?
They are all listed in the description box 🙂

Hi, I'm cancer stage IIIA..Hope you help me.thank you 🙏❤
How long can you keep the wrapping on before you have to change it?
I believe for up to 23 hours per day, but always make sure you have good circulation in the toes and when you squeeze a toe it should look white then return to normal color immediately after you squeeze. Depending on your individual underlying condition, you should always consult with your doctor when using compression therapy for the proper technique.
Doesn't all that pressure wrapping cause soft tissue injury by cutting off the blood supply? My legs would go gangrene in a couple of hours if constricted like that.
Hi, how many days can I leave this wrap on, or how often do I change the wrap? Thanks
Hi, i have severe lymphedema both legs and thighs and i have to change them every day for 4 weeks. 23 hrs with bandages on and an hour to shower and lotion the legs.
Her recommendations are in the video, at the end.
How do I manage the itching, while wrapped?
My Therapist used 1% hydrocortizone on my ankles and calves w/ regular lotion. I was able to keep a bandage wrap on for two days - over the weekend.
It’s anything simple than this
Anyone have any experience on how to prevent creases? I have a crease just above the back of my ankle and the wrapping rolls up and digs in there and makes the crease even deeper and hurts awful! Also cutting off my circulation some and swelling because of the tightness
In another video she suggest using foam or pads around the ankle bone to get the swelling down in that area and prevent the crease
What I have learned is that it depends on the human wrapping my legs. Some are much better than others at compression bandaging and I get no creases at all. Some need retraining.
Do i need the stockinette? Or can i wrap without it
You want something between your skin and the bandages
I am looking for lymphedema floor therapy for my vagina I have surgery done and cut 1/2 side please
I don't see the link? I'm new to lymphedema. I have it on both legs and my lower abdomen and my feet. Trying to figure it all out. Unfortunately they told me they think mine has hereditary. No one else in my family has it.
Hi, didn't know lymphadema could be in your abdomen. Mine seems to be getting larger. That's something to think about. Thnx.
@@missm5506 yes, stomach, arms, breasts too.
I have a larger thigh and have trouble keeping my bandage up!
Does sweating in areas a part of lymphedema lipedema I have both. Stage 4
Herring Bone Technique
Why wrap the toes ???
I credit you for showing those super ridiculously granddaddy long leg toes of yours 😂 💯
hello how old are you?
Cann, you skip this if toes are not swollen.
My toes are not swollen and my therapist never wraps them. Talk with your therapist.
Seems wrapping around and around too much compression figure 8 or spiral wrapping
Try wrapping your feet if you are 78 years old and have a swollen leg!
Bill. You need a compression garment with straps that Velcro. It can be removed at night or whenever and adjusted whenever as your swelling goes up or down. Don’t talk to your doctor. Talk to your lymphedema therapist. They know all about the garments
As someone who also has cereal palsy, I can not wrap by myself...
Oh my christ. I thought I was doing pretty well with my therapy, but about 2 minutes into watching this video, I found I suddenly had some additional swelling...
This has been so helpful. However, the whistling was so distracting and annoying, especially with a lengthy instructional video.
You're very cute you're my type
PLEASE CHANGE NAME THIS CHANNEL. HERE come people who don't want to see the name Concer because they want to forget about it.😊😊😊
That is way too much layering-- theres no way you can work an 8 hour shift -- and you cannot wear them 24 hours a day since your mmhg compression within your lower extremities goes down while you sleep, and then the gradient compression goes back up once your on your legs again walking around etc... Unless you have stage 3 or higher you would need extra layering but not stage 2 or less.
I wrap my legs with foam and short stretch bandages every day before my 12 hour shift. I do 2 layers, only go up to knee though. I do leave mine on 24 hours. I've been looking at getting some night time compression sleeves though. I honestly don't know or understand much about the pressure, but I have seen other people say you need a different type of compression when you sleep.
Why would you use yourself as a model. This does not show your skill set in dealing with patients that actually have Lymphedema. Lots of these bandages turned into tourniquets if you really do have an enlarge leg. It would be good to see how you would use your knowledge to overcome these challenges with a patient that actually has to deal with this issue. It is Particularly harder around the larger thigh area where the bandages just do not stay. Especially if you truly have lots of edema again all the wraps/foam turns into tourniquets. This video is far from the reality of most patients with Lymphedema trying to do compressing wrapping.
Unreasonable....I simply wrap with ace bandages and it's enough.
Yes, there are links in the description box below the video! And I have a lot of videos for both secondary and primary 🙂
