    Why is Sweden "likely get it's own F35-Fleet in the near future", when 39 Gripen excels over it in air to air combat, when Gripen is much cheaper and when Gripen is designed to counter Russia, when Gripen is made for the Nordic environment, and when it can land and take off at normal roads? Because they export so many Gripen that they will buy the American one? Finland and Norway already have F35 and are apart of the same air defense. So that Sweden won't continue to fill their role with JAS 39 Gripen doesn't make any sense.

    • @loke6664
      @loke6664 Před 25 dny +8

      Well, I could see the use of a small number of F-35 B VTOL planes. The mix of stealth and (when stealth isn't as important) a larger armament load a few could be useful.
      But the problem is that American planes are mainly made to fit the American military doctrine which differs a lot from the Swedish military doctrine. Swedish planes not only needs to be able to land on highways, they also need to be quickly refueled and re-armed there and require as little service as possible.
      So i don't see the Gripen getting replaced by the F-35, the way a Gripen attacks a target on the ground is different and require more experienced pilots (Swedish pilots stay in average 3 times as long as American pilots in the service before switching jobs to commercial flying, which makes them very capable but also a lot harder to replace).
      Sweden have used foreign planes before but most of the planes have been Swedish produced since the late 30s and I don't think that will change. I do expect SAAB to start working on a more advanced plane somewhere in the next 10 years though.
      To be honest would I rather have 20 F-22 then F-35 myself, while it can't land anywhere besides a large air base, the way it operates would fit better with how Swedish pilots use their planes. Sadly, US ain't selling any of those to anyone.
      Another alternative would to buy a few KAI KF-21 Boramae from South Korea once they get into service, they seem on par with the F-22 with better electronics and would make a nice air superiority fighter. There is something to say about having a few specific planes for certain things, Gripen is still a bit of a Jack of all trades so it can be used for anything but at times a pure air superiority plane like the F-22 or the KF-21 are pretty nice to have.
      The big Swedish investment from US seem to be HIMARs at the moment, not F-35.

    The video has good parts, but the part about the JAS 39 Gripen ("Griffin") is not one of them. First, Sweden has many more Gripens than what the video claims. Second, Sweden has no desire to replace the Gripen with the F35 since the Gripen is considered a superior platform. Third, the Gripen is built to be upgraded, so there there is no serious discussion about another platform either. What we do need is more of them, and with drone siblings.

      The art of war changed. And this war wasn't about ships. The Ukraine (or better the camouflage of Ukraine) could just sink that ships due to western intelligence (where drones and planes flew over the sea without being shot down in a regular base) and western people who developed the plans and programm the system of storm shadows/drones (without fear being striked) and executed them. So Russia took the risk not to expand the war for a few ships.

There was and i guess still is the possibility that Gripen E is the last swedish made fighter, altough very recently was announced a project to look into a potential new fighter made by Saab. Also, considering we now surrounded by nations with F-35's it would make more sense to not put all eggs in one basket, innovation on the top level is hard but so far we fairing rather well, so why stop now?

    My thoughts on Sweden joining NATO are going to be looked at as possibly self serving but who cares?! My family (Sundkvist) came from Sweden in 1910 and we still have family living in Sweden today! I am happy to see Sweden join NATO as they are a lot stronger and more prepared than most people think. This is a benefit to Sweden and NATO, when Putin stuck his finger to the world and tried to bully his way into stopping Ukraine from joining NATO he should have did more research into how NATO works and what happened after the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact collapsed. Literally every country in the old Warsaw Pact and a few old Soviet republics are now in NATO and his actions caused 2 countries who long remained neutral to join NATO as well. With the failure of the Russian army to take over Ukraine and the end of Putin’s war soon to be at hand one thing will happen, Ukraine will join NATO and as it looks you might even find Moldova and Belarus following that route. The problem in all this is that Putin is clinging to his desire to recreate the Soviet Union, but he should have done better management of his Army to know if they were capable of taking Ukraine in 3 weeks as he proclaimed in February 2022. I see something else happening possibly this year. When the Russian people and families find out the true death toll of estimated 450,000 Russian soldiers and that their children may never come home, there will be another Russian revolution causing Putin to be removed from power. Maybe this is why Alexei Navalny was killed in his IK-3 prison. Many of Putin’s rivals have met with suspicious deaths in the past few years, but there is no way he will escape-e the wrath of parents of those 450,000 dead Russian soldiers in a war Putin said would last 3 weeks and NO Russian soldier would be hurt.

Historically both countries attacked each other now and then but during the last 300 years or so it has mainly being Russia who attacked us. In principle we dont really mind most of the russian people but your country is constantly threatening its neighbours and now are openly invading independent democratic nations so yeah we dont like that at all. Also if you read up a bit on what NATO is then you will see that NATO is a defensive alliance that would only respond (as an alliance) to attacks initiated on its member states. NATO would never attack anyone first.

Denmark had to give up Norway for supporting Napoleon, and was compensated with Western Pomerania. In order to screw the Swedes the Danish sent its crown prince to be elected king of Norway and get it back that way. This triggered the Swedes to invade Norway to stop the Danish which succeeded but the Norwegians also got self rule and its own constitution (Western Pomerania was later then taken over by Prussia which gave Denmark another area in Germany and monetary compensation to Sweden).

It is no secret if Finland or Sweden were attacked by Russia before, NATO will intervene, after all NATO is very selective, as seen in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya and on some degree in Ukraine. Nerd alert! And a bit of a nitpick but sweden has 120 tanks of the model strv122. Not 122 tanks. A small difference but still. It's a tank built on the leopard A2 chassis but with a bofors (swedish) 120 mm gun.
    Although im not sure if the number of 120 is adjusted for the tanks sent to Ukraine, but im sure somebody else knows

    Kaliningrad is not an enclave of Russia. It is an exclave of the Russian Federation.
