Amid Ukraine War, What Finland & Sweden’s NATO Decision Means For Europe & The Putin Vs West Tussle

  • Finland is likely to make a decision on whether to apply for NATO membership this week. Sweden’s ruling Social Democrats will reportedly decide on May 15 whether to ask for NATO membership. So far, the two Nordic countries have been wary of antagonising their giant nuclear-armed neighbour, Russia. Russia has warned of "a military technical response", including deployment of nukes in the Baltics, if Sweden and Finland join the NATO. NATO’s Nordic expansion a boon or bane for Europe? Will the West risk a new confrontation with Putin?

My comment is entirely from a neutral standpoint. I'm just a bystander here and this is how things are looking right now. This has become unsolvable for Russia now. Putin is being humiliated by the west and maybe he's dying from some disease. He might have already foreseen a future threat to Russia from NATO and may not trust his successor to deal with this 5-10 years later when he's gone. Now there are only 2 options left. Anyone can guess what they are. Either Russia looses or the entire west and Russia both lose everything. The situation in Ukraine was enough to prove that Russia will never be stupid enough to invade a country like Finland. Humiliating any country without such destructive capabilities would've forced them to either behave or suffer. But you've all either forgotten what Russia is capable of or have chosen to ignore and keep humilitaing them. I don't know what he's going to do for sure but I don't think the NATO countries know it for sure either. They've played this gamble just to rub it in Putin's face. This might completely backfire and end up very very badly for all of NATO and Russia.

During that time Finland could get ahead strongly, the Baltics had it much more difficult.
We Finns fought against the Red army very effectively and that changed the opinion of Stalin. He was very much against us in 1939, but since 1945 he was pretty neutral. He didn't try to force socialism to Finland anymore, but accepted the status quo. The Americans had a positive image about "Uncle-Joe" and Stalin indeed was a bit like that toward Finland after 1944. Maybe one day, the United States will find a sustainable middle ground, where it defends its interests and allies, but learns to say "no" when it is presented with the opportunity to sort out the likes of Somalia. And next time something like a Yugoslavian civil war and genocide presents itself, it should be the responsibility of the European members of NATO to take the lead on cleaning out their own house. Since his rise to power at the beginning of the 21st century, he has double downed on repression within Russia and has attempted to thwart NATO and EU unity and stability.
One of his goals has been to outflank NATO on the north and south, to encircle it on three sides so as to put it in a weak defensive position. This is one of the reasons he wants to take over Ukraine and Moldova in the south and to have a free hand in the north with Finland and Sweden as neutral states.

west cannot sanction more or anything new , it is a un permanent member it can veto itself out of trouble ....so what can finland ,swedan or nato do start testing nukes in finland and swedan so that it effect russia,if you test that powerful weapons finland and swedan will lose 50-60% of their land ......have you looked at russia size they can sustain shifting population from west to east ,but what will finland and swedan do ......
if russia has will power they can test nuke every 10 days so that these 2 countries will loose everything ...all russia needs to do is test weapons(rather calling it testing ,it will be bombing nukes) near border and sea within their boundaries

The only reason NATO still exists is constant threats against its neighbors by Russia, including constant violations of air space. FYI the Russian threat of putting nukes in the Baltics is a hollow threat because they have already had nukes for many years stationed in the Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad, which is where the nuclear armed bombers took off before violating Swedish air space last month with nuclear weapons on board.

It takes a villain like Putin to make allies stronger

It’s all threats with Russia. Their incompetence in Ukraine should indicate to Putin that mouthing off isn’t a sign of strength but weakness. In a bar fight I’d have the mouthy one every time. It’s the quiet ones you watch!

Russia violates Finland´s airspace whenever they like, so that´s nothing new. The new is that Russia will have to stop doing that when Finland become a NATO country!

We welcome Findland and hopefully Sweden as well. As we continue to grow our union we must look to the safety of the "Democratic Block of Countries". Our combined Super "World protection force" will stop any leader or nation from eroding Democracy all over the world.
