Nice to see these old Commodores being saved from the junk yard. I bought a 2000 Calais non turbo 3.8 in NZ this year for $6000NZ (about $5,500 Aussie). Same blue too, 143,000 genuine on the clock. You have to love them. Scored it from a collector who was downsizing.

Holden made some very bad mistakes, the Holden Commodore used to be a mid sized car back in the 80s with the VL Turbo.
They could've easily reverted back & averted the crisis.
It just seemed like more weight, more power, larger size & worse fuel economy was their goal instead of trying to pay attention to where the market shifted.

@@brantleyfoster021 I think they were being slaughtered in the sales race against the Falcon as the Commodore was not perceived as not big enough . The VN couldn't come soon enough for them. As for later years yes the could have done something although I doubt it would have been enough to keep manufacturing here as GM left all RHD markets so there would be nothing to sell apart from whatever the commodore turned into

Tony Abbott & Joe Hockey chose not to support local manufacturing.
All the manufacturing is oversea's now.
The new imported Commodores sold incredibly bad, they left the market too.
Think people wanted Corvette's & Camaro's instead of Commodores.
But they left without even giving them a chance in Australia.
Still importing GM's cars to Australia is much easier now.

I'm glad CZcams's algorithm suggested this video to me. These Eaton M90's were heat pumps even with a mild boost increase, but I hear these engines enjoy a turbo setup quite well.

It was a very fast and quiet car - quicker than my VP SS

Basically i drove the statesman 4 days a week then the SS, except in summer, the statesman had a much colder air con for some reason
Although i preferred the SS, you had to be carefull as the staesman was much quieter and almost no exhaust noise you had to check the speedo

I own six L67 commys, about 4000 at the minute, low km s are about 5000.
Book value puts vx as the worst for holding value, vt's are stronger and a little lighter.

Low in the context of it being 23 years old. On its worth possibly! It was registered and roadworthy for the price

Australian car manufacturers had no idea about the importance of the smaller details like how a door sounds when it shuts. In America that is engineered into the car to give the owner a sense of satisfaction of ownership. They just didn't have a clue here. Just listen to the horrible cheap thud these make. The Falcon was way ahead there. GM truly hadc and still has contempt for the market.

      @@d4dsvy850 such an Australian response.
More discerning consumers in other markets plainly do. Australia's apathetic culture lets companies get away with second rate.
