- This video review is for Hasbro's generation one Transformers the movie reissue repaint of Decepticon air Commander Starscream. He is a shared exclusive between Hasbro Pulse and Wal-Mart. This version of Starscream is designed / painted to 1986 cartoon movie accurate , but does it pull off the look?

Good review. Seeing this takes me back to my childhood.
While I never had a G1 Starscream as a kid, I had classmates who did, and I enjoyed it vicariously through watching them.
It makes me crack a smile when I see little extra areas of articulation for old-school action figures like these. Even if it was primarly for the transformation gimmik, in the imagination of a small child, it added a little something special to the joy of play.
This is one reason why I stick with Takara for G1 reissues. Just wish Hasbro was the same quality as they are cheaper.

I received a replacement Starscream and the paint was much better.
I just got this guy PHYSICALLY COMPLETE, at a thrift store, for $1! There is a slight paint chip on his hand, but it’s still a great figure, though I wish the cockpit tabbed in

So, I had the G1 figure back when I was a kid. Been wanting an old school Starscream for a while. Saw this one at Walmart for $18 clearance, jumped on it. Mine had some of that red face paint that I had to scratch off like yours, but all in all, I am pretty happy with this toy. Brings back memories and that's what I was hoping for. Thank you Hasbro!
I was able to pick up a second Starscream last week for $10.00 on clearance!
Wheewwwww... I usually watch CZcams vids at 1.75x playback speed, but had to replay that intro multiple times, *_slowed down,_* to catch all that 86movie scene recreation goodness. I don't even remember a scene with perceptor and grapple shooting, so I've got something to look forward to when watching that movie again.
Okay, now on to let the remainder of this video play!
I am glad I found this video, there's like 4 at a Walmart I frequently shop at, after seeing this is a G1 conehead with bad quality I now realize I made a good decision not to keep this Starscream in my cart.
However I found a brand new Coronation Starscream at a local GameStop unopened brand new and bought it in a heartbeat.
I purchased a second Starscream, and it was perfectly fine, so I swapped it out and got a refund.
@@80sTransfromersFan that's good. I'm on the fence for MP-11 Coronation Starscream, but I saw videos of the wing pegs not sturdy.
Did you get the very first run of Ghost Starscream from 2001-2002 era? I have him in and the clear plastic was nice and made well. It's a conehead G1 mold so that hopefully counts as owning a G1. My parents were actually poor even for the 80s and I missed out on a lot of Transformers.
@Holy_Wraith I have mp 11 and don't have any issues with wing pegs. And yes, I have two ghosts, Starscreams one opened and the other sealed.

As a 16 year old who was introduced to The series through Beast wars and G1. This is my very first experience with a G1 toy ever and I gotta say, I love it, it's a fun toy (And from my bias from starscream being one of my favorite character in the series) and from the Die-cast is very nice and my copy of the megatron gun The seperate piece the slot is to thick and when i tried to put it all the way in to the gun, It cut me and made me bleed a tiny bit so.. Bewarey of that for people who wants to buy it
There's definitely a few QC issues with this figure.
Personally I’m happy that this one was released, because it’s the third G1 toy I’ve ever gotten my hands on. The first being an original Optimus prime who was missing everything and was just the truck cab with some loose legs, the Tonkanator which is just yellow devastator, and now this guy! And I actually like his cartoon accurate colors!
And that’s funny how the picture is of Earthrise Starscream 😂
The paint on the head I got was better. The missiles look like trash.

This decepticon starscreen said in an episode “ I’ll rule the universe, even if I’m the only one left.. something like that 😅

I was feeling pretty bummed about the paint on my figure's face--half is missing--then I saw yours and now I count myself lucky.
I recently picked up another one and it was perfect. I the swapped it out and returned the crap one and got a refund.
The red on the face is exactly why plastic free packaging sucks. If you were to see it you could pass on it and get a different one that didn't have it
I wish they'd added some extra ports so we had the option to have the wings up higher in bot mode, in order to match the animation model more.
that would be a cool and probably easy custom mod
I have this version as well. The plastic seems a lot cheaper than the my original Thrust. I wanted all the Seakers but was only able to buy Thurst as a kid.
Thrust was my only real seeker as a kid!
Picked one up from a local Walmart here in Denver ish Colorado. I actually really like the guy. He looks great next to the latest Deluxe and Voyager Legacy kids.

Never got the first one at Walmart and kind of regret it because I prefer the plastic on the box to see the figure. Not sure but I may pick this one up eventually.
George, great review as always man. I am surprised you found it on the shelf. I have this on pre-order and it is scheduled to ship by end of Feb from Walmart...if they don't cancel my order before then. You know they are good for that...
Anyway, after seeing the face paintjob I can pretty close to cancelling to be honest. But, I'll stick in and wait to see mine. I have the 2018 reissue but I kept it sealed as it is the only Starscream I have and if I only have one it's gotta be MIB. Since this one is of a package where you can't see the toy, well, its gotta be opened.
I am eager to see you review the Hotrod as well. And, I got some glimpses of the movie colors Hound that is coming online as well. I have high hopes that they keep up with this line but the realist in me knows we'll probably get Hound and then its done.
My Hot Rod should arrive on Monday.

@@80sTransfromersFan perfect! Looking for g1 missiles and bombshell for this guy. These long weapons don’t do him justice. People may want stickers but for the g1 carton accuracy, he doesn’t need them.
I was today years old when I found out you could attach Megatron to his underside in Jet mode.
The paint on the head is pretty bad. Good reason for being able to see the figures before opening the box. Thanks George.

Just following up. My pre-order is supposed to arrive on 2/21 (we'll see) but I took a chance and dropped by my local Walmart and they had him. So I got one and just opened to examine it. It looks like mine is good. Paint is not messed up. Overall, the quality if good. Arms a little loose and the Megatron gun accessory is really tight. I can't insert the bottom part (the stock) without some force so I didn't. Probably have to file it to get it to go in better and/or put Megatron together. There's a gap. I think you got one that was just bad. Seems like an isolated case, or I just got lucky. Watching your Hot Rod review shortly. Thanks.
@CedricCheng thanks for the follow-up! My friend found me another Starscream.. I'm picking it up today, hoping it has better paint. If so I will swap it out. BTW, my Megatron gun was a tight fit as well.

I got this on the cheap so I’m generally happy
My concern is transforming back from jet to robot... that nose cone assembly is really tight and feels like I’m gonna snap that piece off
Also, my face detail looks sharper than yours

I eventually exchanged my copy for a better face painted one. Just recently, I picked up a second Starscream on clearance for $10.00. And you are very welcome.
I'm not seeing these in store around here, yet. hoping they are on their way. I wonder why hasbro didn't just release a bunch of 86 characters in movie colors. that would have been great.

@The 80's Transformers Fan it's just an underwhelming figure. First off, I didn't like the fact that I couldn't see the figure itself, so it was kind of a gamble when it came to getting a good figure. I understand that it's from the 80's movie, but it's missing the g1 sticker factor. The shiny chrome stickers are gone, and all that's left is open screw holes and open gaps. It seems like a lazy designed figure. The nose is red so he looks like Rudolph. I never grew up in the 80s, but I knew parts forming was a thing with these g1 figures, but holy crap the entire thing comes apart lol. The extremely long missiles looks silly, like I don't think a kid is going to be interested in transformers anymore. They discontinued the actual G1 reissues from 2 years ago, and even then my Soundwave's cassette deck door opens way too easily. I don't think Hasbro is trying anymore, just having an excuse to throw something on the shelf

Hasbro lied, they said they would make the missles short this time, they lied to us.
Just got mine today. The paint work is better on my copy. No sloppy blotches and stuff.
How are the guns on yours? Mine sucks. The springs keep falling out whenever I put the missles in and pop them out
My gun's are good. That should be a easy fix.

They are coming out with a cartoon accurate Hound. Do you think they'll ever do Thundercracker or Skywarp given that they are only repaints of Starscream?
I know and yes I think they're coming! I talk about it in the commentary on my Hot Rod review.

Walmart shipped mine in a bubble mailer and the box was pretty damaged. Luckily, the toy was not.
You can't really insert the Diaclone figures inside the seekers, because the cockpit windshield has a piece of plastic that prevents them from getting in.
I've never had a problem inserting my Diaclone pilots into my G1 seeker jets.
@@80sTransfromersFan without the cockpit, you can, but with it, it prevents the cockpits from staying on.
The original G1 Starscream is the first Transformer I ever got as a kid and I still have it. It's one of the super early releases. No rub sticker and no copyright stamp. So it was in the first wave of US releases in 1984.
I picked up this new one and it is absolute trash by comparison. The gaps between the wings and the body in jet mode, the flimsy plastic, the awful paintjob. Hasbro phoned this in.
Great review! This is the worst figure ever for Starscream! They should've given us the OG mold and paint from the G1. These three shown here are made and painted terribly. 🤣
I have problems finding this figure at Walmart.
I saw him a couple of times before I opened mine. But now that I'm looking for another one with a good paint job I can't find it anywhere.

I just brought this guy home tonight. Felt like a kid again! 1st Transformer I bought in nearly 40 years! Great to find this in depth review and how to transform video. And it took me a while to realize it was a real but miniature Megatron with him. Wow! Way cool! Now I only have Optimus Prime (with trailer), Megatron and Soundwave to go.

I original is the best because it came from Japan and it had stickers to apply and the booklet was photography style and tech was better thank God I have the original god is supreme

Shouldn't a cartoon accurate version of Starscream have more of a white color than a light gray color? I remember when I got my Walmart G1 reissue of Starscream I was surprised by how gray he looked as opposed to white.
I think the cartoon Starscream is more light gray than white 🤔 I could be wrong.

why not all cast in colors? it seems to me they wanted to use some excess of pieces so they just (badly) paint them instead of casting new. Anyway, that packaging is ugly, coupled with paint quality and lack of detail hardly a collectible and any children that could choose will go for another starscream

Wow they really dropped the ball on this reissue. VERY disappointing(paint on the head). I’m gonna have to pass on this one. It would have been better if they had came out with a completely different transformer other then a reissue reissue reissue. I did notice that this version did not come with the Optimus prime hand that allowed Optimus prime to hold megatron alt mode.

Wow. This is awful. I grew up with G2 (technically G1 re-runs), and the new toys are leagues better. The nostalgia isn’t worth anything when the transformations, designs, and articulation are so much better nowadays. I still have a G2 Prime, for example, which is basically G1 Prime with a black trailer instead of grey. I also have Siege Prime, and there’s no way I would prefer the G2 over the new stuff. I wish the toys of my childhood were as good as they are now.
That said, good video!

I think the face looks better on Starscream for this Walmart version. It looks more like the cartoon. I also would say the same for the Walmart Bumblebee where the face looks more cartoon accurate than the original G1 toy.

Wow that is some sloppy work. I bought one of these today and haven’t opened it, but I plan on returning it after this review. The head and face paint is absolutely terrible… and the hands. I knew it was too good to be true. Cheap, cheap, cheap and they want $32 at my local Walmart,
I've had people tell me that their copy is fine and I just have a bad one. I'm going to purchase another one and swap it out.
@@80sTransfromersFan I opened to look at the face paint on mine last night and there is a grey blob under the left eye. The way the nose cone is installed looks imperfect too. I could try a second one and return this one, but I’m skeptical. It’s only good for its jet mode to me, I don’t display G1 planes in bot mode anymore. The cockpit looks more gold in the product photo, but it’s not, it’s a pale yellow, so… Hasbro you blew it, you can forget selling me the Hound, I know it’s going to be made from cheap plastic.
At $35 glad I passed the paint looks like shit!

I think you got a bad batch man. I just took a zoomed in pic of mine and face and helmet paint are near perfect. No where near the blotchyness you got.

Let’s face it, this movie repaint series is a thing probably due to them being potentially cheaper to make. With them not needing chrome and all.
I agree with you...they don't make figures like they used to. Even the new Superpowers figures,the way they have them packaged they pinned it to the plastic so there is a permanent hole in the capes. Plus they're made so cheap. I like the colors on Starscream but I'm gonna pass.

A lot of people are tell me it's just mine. I've been told in the comments people are receiving better copies. So I guess I have a bit of bad luck.

I can tell You fellow collector, Those "cluster-bomb" missiles absolutely do NOT properly fit into the launchers. Only with original G-1 Transformers, & their ("gas-station") knock-offs, could they actually fit & be fired too!!!! 😐
What are "gas stations" knock-offs? Was that a real thing???
