- This video review is for Hasbro's generation one Transformers 40 YEARS reissue repaint of Decepticon Soundwave, Laserbeak and Ravage. This is a shared exclusive between Hasbro Pulse and Wal-Mart. This version of Soundwave is designed / recolored to be 1986 cartoon movie accurate.

I really enjoy how striking the animation coloring of Soundwave is. Enjoyed your review. I agree with your thoughts. I hope they reissue others including an animation accurate Astrotrain down the road!
Also out of all the cassettes that soundwave has. My favorite hands down is laserbeak. Love the design of the bird mode that the cassette turns into.
My favorite cassette, as far as the toys go, is Ravage

The 3 rockets/missiles on the sprue - the part that’s pushed into the blaster gun in the fist is shaped to look like a stereo phone connector.
Yes sir... I got mine and Blaster they are awesome. Can't wait for what's going to be next in the 40th line of G1.
I'm hearing we are getting Optimus Prime, Bombshell with Ramhorn for whatever reason and one other.
I hope they make more G1 transformers with the toon paint... They nailed this Soundwave 🤩👍
If I had a guess. I would say Astrotrain or the remaining Insecticon is next.
@@80sTransfromersFan Retro Bombshell, Ramhorn, and Optimus Prime are going to be released later this year. I really hope they will release Astrotrain. I've been waiting for decades for a more cartoon accurate Astrotrain.

Awesome review man. I was literally just looking at my 40th anniversary g1 sound wave as I was browsing through CZcams and as soon as found your review i had to watch it. Really enjoy your videos. My favorite parts are literally the back story behind each figure and you do an amazing job going over the details on the figures. Really having a blast with the g1 reissues.
Which reminds me there’s also reviews and photos out of the missing link g1 Optimus prime out there already and I got mine on preorder. Definitely can’t wait to get that Optimus as it’s fully articulated and it’s basically a 2.0 of g1 Optimus which is cool as hell. Best part is they have the cartoon colors and the g1 toy colors and the decals are molded and painted on the figure which definitely makes things very interesting.
Yes, I've seen 3 videos on the Missing Link Optimus Prime, and I can't wait to get mine! I check every day to see if it has shipped .
Cassettes and new Soundwave a must for me of course I'm really glad you like him it's getting misjudged by many. I think that is due to a few things. The semi recent reissue by Wal-Mart. Very poor shipping by Walmart and people thinking they took away the die cast. I got lucky both my Soundwave and Blaster came minty. Great review as always my friend!
My Soundwave box was a little crushed, as you can see in the video. I talked about but cut it out in the final editing because I opened it anyway. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

@@80sTransfromersFanfinally a review of this.still find it odd you can't find this in stores yet.did"nt know they have Blaster,too.but Soundwave is always my favorite.looks better than the original.didn't know one of the blasters extended like that.hope i see it in stores soon.they had the latest StarScream in stock forever.but passed on it.I hope we see more reissues in stores.do you think we'll ever see Megatron and Galvatron in stores anymore?I doubt it,since their guns.but stores still sell toy guns all the time.don't get it.great video,man

Alot of people have been complaining and even though I have 2 2020/21 reissues, I bought this (again) mainly for Ravage because I've had no luck in getting him actually. The only other Soundwave that I want in any version including G1 toy is the purple and yellow 80's Marvel version of him otherwise I'm done here...
I hope they one day redo the mold and give us a proper original G1 Soundwave instead of the Soundblaster mold as I like the door/buttons better on the original.
Sadly that will most likely never happen. The window has outside hinges like Soundblaster. G1 Soundwave has hinges inside the tape deck window. It's annoying.
@@williamthompson5504 I've heard years ago that they lost the mold or it was too damaged for the original Soundwave, and so modified Soundblaster's mold into the Soundwave that's been reissued all these years.
I figure that mold will wear out at some point and then they'll need to make a new one, and hopefully they'll do it like the original G1 Soundwave. Or maybe if they make a Missing Link Soundwave or something.
Pre ordered this guy on Walmart several months ago. They sold out and still haven’t shipped it. Told me they won’t get anymore. Looks good though

Nice review as always! I got this one and I'm very happy with it, except that the right leg is hard to pull down from the body, and both legs move the tape deck door during transformation, which is weird. Not pleased with Hasbro though because mine didn't include the right gun for Laserbeak when it arrived. They "replaced" it by sending me 40th Anniversary Blaster, which is kinda cool. Not something I had seriously considered buying. I'm still wishing I had the matching gun though!

I would love blaster but this set I may try for to since its a 3 figure set but moneys tight right now 2 months maybe but may try for a ko prime first . I dream of having a G1 prime the power master was great but not the same thanks for sharing

1:30 ahhh, morphing the intent of the line to include other toys from the toon makes sense for the box art. Not that I was a fan of the artwork for the boxes of 86 movie characters. I initially thought, _"did ravage appear in the movie thiugh?"_ but the expansion explanation makes sense.
5:06 😢 no flattening for space saving, or cutting of tech specs?
26:07 even more than that, I'd like them to make a 2pack set that has soundwave upscaled to match G1 blaster's size in bot mode, and a blaster downsized to match G1 soundwave's size in bot mode. Then do the same with twincast and soundblaster.
Yes, Soundwave ejected Ravage at Autobot City, and he was shot by Eject. I think them up scaling a g1 transformer is unlikely.
@80sTransfromersFan that's right... ravage ate the roundhouse from blaster before ejecting his cassettes to demonstrate that he too *_could play._*
For some reason, I always think of the animation error of two frenzies and a ratbat when they're flying to _"jam the transmission"_ for help, without focusing on the fourth cassette. Just rewatched the scene and didn't notice there was another error of two ejects running from left to right during that frame of eject shooting ravage, as one eject in the background ran/hopped over preceptor just prior to the shot.
As for the upscaling of toys, yes it's unlikely for it to be officially done, but years ago, I got an upscaled KO of soundwave... but don't think a downscaled version of blaster/twincast was ever made. Would be nice if official releases for those were done. Oh well, at least SS86 will probably do a soundwave... would be nice if they used the slightly lighter blue colors than the toy like this release in your review..
I recently preordered the Missing Link G1 Optimus Prime with trailer. I will say, I generally avoid Hasbro G1 reissues as you can tell they use cheaper plastics and cheaper stickers than the Takara versions. I did pick up a Hasbro Bumblebee from walmart for $7 though when that Bumblebee movie came out.
I do think the Hasbro Blaster 40th looks pretty good though and may pick that up if I see it as I've never had Blaster.
This Soundwave is definitely higher quality than previous reissues. And I agree with Takara having superior quality. I check every day to see if my Missing Link Optimus has shipped out, I can't wait.

It's been five months now and we still haven't got any new Retro Transformers since Soundwave and Blaster. Do you know what's going on? Did Hasbro get tired of the Retro line? I heard rumors of us getting Optimus Prime, Ramhorn, and Bombshell, but still haven't seen any screenshots. It makes me wonder if they will be the last of the line. I thought they would do better for the 40th Anniversary.
I heard the same rumors. I believe they are scheduled for 3rd quarter/fall releases.

I'm disappointed that they will be releasing less Retro figures on the 40th anniversary. In January I was confident that we could get Retro Astrotrain, but now I'm less confident. Do you think they could release some new Retro figures around September 17th since that's the 40th anniversary of the first G1 episode? Is Hasbro known for releasing products on anniversary dates?
I had this in my cart, but hesitated (because I already have a few G1 reissues) and when I went back to complete the purchase it looks like I missed my opportunity to get it at the normal $45 price. I do wonder if we might have a missing link version coming in the future, though.
Soundwave is an easy Missing Link guarantee!
They popped back up for $45 so I went ahead and got one! (maybe 2), and will still look forward to a missing link version in the future.
Will we get more of the cassettes? It is said that Ramhorn will be released with Bombshell later this year. Could we be getting more of the 1984/86 cassettes? Perhaps all of the 84/86 cassettes?
I don't see why not. Hasbro definitely has the molds. They recently reissued them through Wal-Mart back in 2018. And from what I understand, this is selling well. So fingers crossed.

One thing I didn't understand was why Hasbro didn't release the 1986 cassettes after they released Blaster. I saw a lot of people on Facebook and TFW2005 talking about Blaster's 1986 cassettes. At the time I saw it as ignoring the fans. I hope that doesn't happen again.
My prediction is that we may get Astrotrain, Devastator, and the rest of the 1984 cassettes given that we have seen most of the Walmart reissue larger figures released.
@Electrasound I use an educated guess. I watch for how long a figure takes to sell out on websites and store shelves. Along with the amount I personally see in stores as well as internet talk. So far, the only one hanging around is Starscream. And I'm pretty sure they made excess amounts of Starscream, being that he's a popular character. I think they stopped in the middle of the standard reissues because they decided to go with this cartoon inspired line. I think that's the reason we didn't get the cassette for Blaster. Hasbro know they were going to come back with the same figures in different colors, basically.

How does the wieght feels compared to the 2018 re-issue ? my 2018 feels extremely lighter compared to my Takara 2004 re-issue. I have the 40th anniversary but haven't opened it yet
To me, it feels comparable in weight to the vintage original. It was the first thing I noticed when I picked it up. The funny thing is I talked about it, but cut it out in the final editing.
