On recovery days, and days that I don't take Tongkat Ali, I usually split my Ecdysteroid and Shilajit dose up between breakfast and lunch.
It is also worth noting that I have been taking Ashwagandha and Tongkat Ali for several years now and so I don’t need to take these every day. I have already reached the point of diminishing return, and so periodic use of these specific compounds works best for me. If you are just now starting to take these, you may want to take a daily supplementation approach for a while before switching to a micro-cycle protocol as I do.
My stance on the need to cycle turkesterone is very loosely held currently. There may be a point of diminishing returns, at which point it may be easier on your wallet to take periodic breaks. But again, this may not be necessary.
I usually prefer to take Ashwagandha after my workout instead of before. Taking it before your workout can improve strength performance but it may also blunt some of the health benefits of exercise that come from the adaptation to the stress that occurs during exercise. This is also theoretical, and may not be practically relevant, but it may be something to be mindful of.
For those that experience more performance-enhancing effects from ecdysteroids, or work out more often than I do, you may also want to consider swapping this protocol in favor of prioritizing adaptogen intake on your recovery days instead of your workout days. This will allow you to use the adaptogens listed as recovery tools, as opposed to performance tools. But again, this comes down to what you personally prefer.

My dude thank you so much! I have been searching endlessly for someone to put mechanism into layman's terms as to why you should not take ashwagandha indefinitely. I've been taking 300-600mg of KSM-66 daily for over a year and thought it might not be the smartest idea... but, no one could give me any solid reason to stop and it helped immensely to regulate stress as advertised. The way you put the "gray effect" which comes from prolonged use though, yes! I've been reevaluating my supplementation because I was considering going on an antidepressant but now thanks to you I am going to just cycle off the ashwagandha and see if that alleviates some of the anhedonia or "gray effect" which I've been feeling. I really respect your ability to take scientific evidence and make it accessible for people who need to apply this information to real life. As much as I love Andrew Huberman all he said was, "don't take ashwagandha for more than 2 weeks cause you shouldn't". Uhhh... c'mon man! Thanks to you I'm not scared to stop and I know any unpleasantness associated with discontinuing the stuff for awhile will alleviate itself in time and be for the best. So thanks again man, it's not every day one can find such solid, relatable, and immediately applicable information on the internet.

Hey man, its been 2 months so you probably cycled off Ashwaghanda already. But the anhedonia will go away after a week or 2. I did the same, took KSM-66 for about a year straight and definitely got the grey effect. It sucks after a while. You may have found this out already, but yeah definitely cycle. We both learned the hard way haha

the half life of ecdy's seam to be pretty long so it may not be super important to space your intake out throughout the day. You can either take one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Or you can alternate days. There is no exact science here, just speculation.

Don't compare with kids or anyone, you'll never win that battle. Just focus on slow steady progress and be the best you that you can be. I'm 46 and about 6-7% bf all year long. I don't care about how heavy I lift and just focus on having that mind muscle connection. We are playing the long ball game, marathon not sprint. The good thing about slow gains to me is it makes you focus on all the details that younger or genetically blessed individuals take for granted. If you got a good foundation you'll keep the majority of your gains for life and that to me is the ultimate goal don't ya think? I know a ton of bodybuilders are dudes on the sauce who look awesome but ever see those dudes after their comp days are over? Than you got the guys who bulk year long to look great for a month out the year. Keep doing the basics and have a great foundation, brick by brick.

Boss video mate, I definitely went into the grey area of ashwagandah after taking it everyday for about 4-5 months. I took a 2 week break from them and I have now switched to micro cycling however I still feel the ‘grey area’ side effects when I take ashwagandah. How long does it take for everything to balance out so I feel normal again?

Quick question - do you find ecdysterone also stimulating nervous system? I am trying to take the last dose by 6 pm. But I think it is still affecting my sleep. But I think it has to be split in three doses to be taken throughout the day and I am not sure when to fit the last portion

  • @CoachNeek

Hey man, I usually can’t fault your videos but I do have some issues with this one.
    1) Tongkat Ali would work in conjunction with Ecdysteroids, not against one another. Tongkat reduces Oestrogen in males not by binding to receptor sites but by acting as a aromatase inhibitor. This means that both the alpha and beta subset Oestrogen receptors would be left unbound.
Enter Turkesterone and Ecdysterone, these find to the ERB like you have mentioned before, essentially fulfilling a vacant pathway giving an additive effect.
    2) again with the Tongkat, you mention that there are no studies around how Tongkat stops SHBG binding to Testosterone but that is misinformed, there is a single clinical trail often referenced in other papers that has shown this effect happening.
That being said, keep up the good content it’s great to see good contributors in this space

Do you think regular tongkat is worth trying? I’ve tried the lj100 version and it did nothing.
I have nothing but good things to say about Ksm-66 ashwagandha and ecdysterone. Kim-66 dramatically reduced my cortisol. ecdysterone doesn’t seem to do much muscle wise, but it does make me much more bold.

      1. As I stated in my previous video the Tongkat Ali and ecdy complement each other, but they do not stack well together. And Tongkat Ali absolutely has the potential to block estrogen receptors. Maybe You aren't aware of this study... pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20665368/ Its ability to inhibit aromatase is somewhat irrelevant to the discussion at hand.
      2. I stand by my position that Tongkat Ali DOES NOT decrease SHBG. It was HYPOTHESIZED to do this in the discussion portion of a random study, which was then repeated in several other studies as fact. BUT This action has not been observed in a single research study. But maybe you have access to research that I don't. I would gladly reconsider my position if you could link me to a study that demonstrates its SHBG lowering capacity... However, I am confident it doesn't exist.

Does Micro-Cycling Ashwagandha/Tongkat Ali still give the testosterone boosting effects?
I had the understanding that it takes some time for this to happen, hence the conventional advice of taking them for a period of weeks/months before cycling off for a shorter time.
I can't imagine that you would get a testosterone boosting effect immediately to help with a workout, as you suggest to take them pre-workout?
