this guy is awesome, all vids are very informative and this dude researches the hell out of everything
Awesome review of the science on L-carnitine. You did your homework! I will be watching more of your videos.
Love this channel so freaking much bro. My friends are constantly asking me for workout/supplement advice you’re always one of the few channels I recommend. Longtime fan; really appreciate all the work you put in to make the information as digestible yet non-biased as possible.
Definitely important to mention L-carnitine metabolites considering their concerning effects. Intestinal microbiota metabolism of l-carnitine is shown to produce TMAO and to accelerate atherosclerosis, heart disease, and cancer. Gotta be responsible with the reporting and not only share the potential positive effects of supplementation
This is assuming tmao is dangerous. The research is rather shaky if tmao does cause any of those effects. It’s only been shown that some people with cancer had higher tmao levels, is that causative? Who knows but considering our bodies make tmao in the gut I pose the questions why our bodies would make something that allegedly does so much damage…?
@@johnmayneson9539 valid points hope others listen to your explanation
I’ve been supplementing with 5000g of l-carnatine and mitigating the tmao issue by taking garlic extract which is a good anti microbial
Says the guy named @pathologicaldoubt
The connection between TMAO and atherosclerosis, kidney disease, etc. is only a correlation and correlation does not prove causation.
Great video man!
glad I found this channel, love the approach! subscribed. thx sir for the great job.
Ray peat said that Carnitine "promoting the oxidation of unsaturated fats during stress, and increasing oxidative damage to cells". Also another website (tusolwellness) states "L-Carnitine has been found to increase the activity of AChE, the enzyme that breaks down acetycholine in the hippocampus"\
Great Video. Thank you very much!
Awesome as usual 👏👏keep it up bro
Excellent information 👍🏽💯
Excellent video!
Wow. That was a lot of good info to digest.
Great Video! Thanks for the Life Upgrading Info! Gday from down under (Australia) =)
Thank you very much. Great video
Bravo sir yet another excellent and informative video! Would love to see a video on vitamin k2 mk4 and mk7 and it's potential to increase testosterone...
Love your videos!!.. would you ever do one talking about magnesium?
Fatty acids are not broken down into ATP. The breakdown of fatty acids releases energy which is coupled to the synthesis of ATP.
In the thumbnail picture he uses Gorilla Mind's Carnitine L Tartrate, best for androgen receptor upregulating and fat loss when used at 4g+. When he speaks about cognitive performance at 10:20, it is explaining ALCAR (ALC or Acetyl L Carnitine) which crosses blood brain barrier easily, taken at 500mg-1.5g. And then plain old L-Carnitine. Make sure you know which you are getting, as they may have different benefits
When is the best time to take l carnitine tartrate to maximize its performance?
@@robmagz I feel positiv effects immediately after ingestion on empty stomach.
Can a-l-car still upregulate androgen receptors and if so how much relative to l-car?
@@robmagz Take about 30mins to an hour before workout
@@supercal333 Nothing I can give you on that, but since alcar passes blood brain barrier the dosage is much less than LCLT. If you were to take as much alcar as LCLT you'd def have cognitive effects, maybe positive maybe negative
Its a nootropic as well, its amazing
Can you make a video comparing oral VS Injectable L-Carnitine and going through the medical research about dangers in TMAO? Love you channel bro!💸
Ya I was hoping he would talk about the injectables cuz I thought you can't intake an ethacasius dose oraly?
@@evanpanch7143 you can take a sufficient dose orally however you have to dose much higher. I dose at 5g during fat loss phases and I definitely notice the difference
You defs need to talk about bioavailability my guy @nutrition library
I don't think he went into the injectables conversation, because almost nobody is going to want to pin every single day for the relatively minor benefits.
@moreplatesmoredates includes this in his video
Amazing! You hit all the facts. I would say that injectable forms are so much more effective... Like way way way more effective!
Love the energy and time you put into your videos!!!
Would love for you to take a look at Vitamin D Deficiency. Traditional Hunter-gatherers Vitamin D blood levels are around 115 nmol/L while the current recommended Vitamin D blood levels is 40 - 60 nmol/L… Hope this says a lot and it is definitely worth doing some research on this :)
Hey, do you have a link about this by any chance? From what i researched especially from chris masterjohn, the upper limit seems to be around 60 in the presence of enough vit A, otherwise toxicity symptoms occur and kidney stones form.
@RuXueChiew
You are confused about units!
The recommendation is for 40 - 60 ng/ml. You have to multiply that with 2.5 to get nmol/l for vitamin D.
easy on the eyes and very well researched and spoken
As usual, great video! What are the best sources . dietary that is
As always, thanks for the great and detailed information and research you put into your channel. I see an existing comment asking about timing and dosing. Would like to know about that too. Please keep up the great work !!
w video. thank you.
This is wonderful. Can you talk more about the dosages, times and cycles of how to take it please?
2 gs with some carbs if possible
Since oral supplementation isn't very bioavailable, it is recommended to take 3-4g. I usually take it 30 mins before a workout on an empty stomach or light food. works well for extra energy and fat loss. I take Carnitine L Tartrate from gorilla mind. I have also tried ALC (Acetyl L Carnitine) and seemed to just give me brain fog since it is an acetylcholine precursor
@@mitchellmarshall7298 that’ll give you stomach cancer. Inject L-Carnotine so your gut microbiota doesn’t convert it to TMAO
L-Carnitines, similiar to creatines benefits fade away once usage is stopped and as creatine, does not require on-off cycling. Bioavailability of L-Carnitine taken orally is about 10% so its recommended to take anywhere from 2 grams up to 7 grams as it is very heavily tolerated and has no adverse effects. You can also get doctor prescribed L-Carnitine via intramusscular injection where bioavailability is 100% so the injected dose is usually anywhere from 200mgs up to 2 grams according to Dr. Kyle Gillett
@@mitchellmarshall7298 how many capsules did you take? I took a while ago didn't notice anything really. Maybe I didn't take enough each time
stache and hair lookin great my guy
Excellent information, thank you ! Do you have any suggestions on dosage and when to take L-Carnitine ?
Dosage -> 1-2 St (Steak)
Dosage of zero. Don’t take it. It’s not worth the risk.
Great videos brother! Could you make a video on L-Carnitine and TMAO? I’d be curious to get your insight and knowledge on if it’s a concern or not. And if it is not a concern maybe you could explain in depth as to why? Thank you!🤝🏼
More plates more dates has a couple vids on it
It is a concern. Most definitely with oral administration
It’s a concern. Be aware of the risks before taking it.
Acetyl L-Carnitine is the form needed for crossing the blood brain barrier and will also be used by the body. Regular L-Carnitine will not be the right choice to those looking for the cognitive/brain cellular benefits.
What’s your thoughts on L-carnitine L-tartrate?
Tanks for the info
EXACTLY : Those studies on brain benefits were done with ALCRN, not L- Carnitine.
@@Anthony-pq3bzpretty effective for androgen receptor up regulation, so minor performance boost. potential boost in libido and testicular function (seminal volume) as well. good for cardio as it increases bodyfat utilization.
oral l-carnitine does nothing. you need to inject to really feel the benefits an you need to use a really big needle since its almost like a gel..
Okay so I've been researching fitness supplements for the past year and this is the first time ive heard of this L-carnitine supplementation for these purposes. Very interesting
You’re living under a rock….watch mpmd and educate yourself
Stoked to try this just started TTFD and got my life back can actually breathe now and digest but feeling a little off in other ways hopefully redox but the difference is life changing cant wait to optimise fatty acid metabolism!
What's everyone's thoughts on liposomal Vs alcar?
TTFD - That's a type of vitamin B1, right?
Yeah it's the best b1 the only one which crosses the BBB.
ALA messed me up I have a mercury load though.
ALCAR however has been amazing.
Fixing what ALA did with milk thistle and charcoal lol.
Can you make a Video about PQQ?
I am surprised that there was no mentioning of side-effects and possible dangers. Also, no mention about dosages and how much remains bioactive after digestion.
Could you do a video on hairloss?
I love your videos but was hoping you would talk about the injectables cuz I thought you can't intake an ethacasius dose oraly?
If you make a video like this touting potential benefits from studies I think it's very important to include the doses and also talk about the potential risks. You didn't mention conversion to TMAO and the potential negative effects of long term elevated levels of TMAO.
@5kribbles
A very short scan of research confirmed your concerns, and gave me this story:
The gut microbiome converts L-Carnitine into TMAO, which causes arteriosclerosis. Berberine counteracts that effect of the gut mucrobiome.
And yes, the research seems to indicate that it's not just an accociation between TMAO and arteriosclerosis. It's actually causative.
The increase of TMAO with L-Carnitine was very robust.
The research on Berberine was with Coline induced TMAO, not L-Carnitine.
I don't know if it's the same bacteria. So if it works for L-Carnitine too is yet unknown.
Very interesting thank you! @@larsnystrom6698
Who eats L-Car these days. Inject it.
about losing fat mass you quoted reasearch that only showed reserach that showed little bit faster fat oxidation in overweight people, but other research than only imajor impactful food supplement is caffeine and green tea and still more important is diet hormones and calorie intake.
Here before he reaches a mil subscribers💯💯
You didn't make a distinction in your video between L-Carnitine and Acetyl-L-Carnitine, the latter form is the one mostly responsible for cognitive benefits, while the former is the one most beneficial with regards to energy production.
ever since i started taking it ive been more insulin sensitive idk why no one talks about that.
Both l carnation tart and acetyl is awesome
Dosage? Timing?
Well i need to try this, i am a total noob when it comes to training but i wanna change that and improve my health and general wellbeing
I'd recommend protein powder and creatine, vitamins, zinc, magnisum, D3. You'll end up like us with a basket full of supplements when u make nookie gains just fine without them
@@agentnukaz1715 I do take protein and creatine, and i am considering getting zinc and magnesium aswell as i am aware that they are very good for muscle and strength gains
@@thetruth4654 that's a good idea. Zinc, mag, and D3 may increase testosterone if your deficient. Maybe consider trying gorilla minds, sigma supplement since it has all of those plus Boron and testosterone boosting herbs such as Fadogia, tomkat, and ashwaghanda.
Any specific brand you recommend with what dosage?
Carnitine I tried a few times my strength increases were wow same day to 3 days of use. Severe headaches within 2-3 days of use like clockwork. I couldn't continue.
You had me at ATP
Here is my question, during an extended fast how does mitochondria utilize fatty acids without dietary protein is this when muscle loss begins?
YOUR INCREDIBLE KNOWLEDGE BLOWS MY MIND. GREAT WORK. BEST WISHES FROM INDIA
What’s the best form to take and why? I see plain l-carnitine, acetyl, and fumarate. Fumarate seems the least expensive. Is this ok to take?
Okay I'm sorry if I missed this but do you need to take it everyday?
Would it be worthwhile supplementing L-Carnitie if I'm already supplementing L-Methionine L-Lysine?
can you make an video about ac-262?
First 2 days of Oral L-Carnitine and I felt sleepy and goofy happy within an hour, almost like a weird mix of mild euphoria and sedation.
Has anyone experienced this ??
Do we need hormone replacement therapy after taking L Carnatine?
You forgot a very important part: the L-carnitine formulations. In the studies different formulations have been used where for example acelyl-L-carnitine can pass the brain-blood-barrier while other forms like tartrate or fumarate don't and also to enter muscle cells you need to stack it with high IG carbs (insulin needed).
Never talked about TMAO..... eat garlic alot suppliment as well
One video for glycine, please.
Generally you have to also consider its strong anti-thyroid action
Especially if you have or are prone to hypothyroidism
Only ALCAR or l- carnitine too?
@@Mo-yj3wf both but there is especially evidence for ALCAR regarding Hyperthyroidism, look it up (PubMed etc)
So… how much is suggested to take and when?
Recommended dosage?
Recommended time of day for supplementation?
With a meal vs without?
Web search is helpful
do you think that it is safe or will it sill be effective if i take l carnitine for about 3 months
Hello, I have been waiting for this video for a long time. Could you tell me if Acetyl Carnitine is cholinergic? cholinergics give me symptoms of depression. The information I found about the cholinergic properties of ALCAR is confusing.
It is. Look up the channel - nootropicsexpert
what is the first and second most popular? creatine and preworkout?
Bio-availability of oral L-Carnitine is between 14-18% according to research. This means you need to take around 3 grams (usually 6 capsules of 500mg) to have any meaningful effect.
I have the MTHFR gene mutation and Carnitine is the ONLY thing that gives me energy and helps me lose weight.
Add garlic to reduce TMAO..........
but how much L- carnitine should we take to receive those benefits?
Any thoughts on l carnitine and potential TMAO production?
Acetyl L-Carnitine is the best variant by some way to takes
@nutrition Library do you need to cycle off, and do you take it everyday? Great content, love your channel
I know it’s an amino acid along with taurine that helps with your heart. It builds your heart muscles too. I had a dog that had congestive heart failure and he was eating dog food that didn’t have them in it.. He ended up passing away.. I also know that L Carnitine helps with muscle building..
Is acetyl carnitine effective?
thoughts on supplementing with gaba? (heard it might increase HGH)
Does it help with fat loss ?
Did I miss the part about recommended daily dosage ?
Wow super supplement that no one talks about 🤯 I'm missing this 👌✨ my pre or intra workouts don't have it 🦾😤🦾
L-carnitine tartate vs acetyl-carnitine
On the Andrew Huberman podcast with Dr Gilette they say to ingest at least 3-5 grams of L carnitine to work ...
I am taking 500 mg and it works just fine to begin with.
Please put chapter
Did I miss dosages? I've watched it twice now.
Also, why does every L-carnatine I find have Alpha lipioc acid with it??
can even use this while bulking too
6:20 I guess somebody did not pay for the paper hahahah
Can it be taken sublingually to increase bioavailability
Pretty sure the muscle failure you're talking about with anaerobic weight lifting is more dealing with nerve refraction rather than lactate production.
i remeber taking this and my spunk becoming yellow. it was concerning. never touching it again
Dosage and frequency?
you have anything on Kava?
Carnitine is great, but you should review beta-alanine and ALCAR. Beta-alanine is a precursor to Carnosine another promising amino acid, that might be more efficient than taking carnosine directly. ALCAR (acetyl-l-carnitine) has an easier time crossing the BBB.
Citrulline is a precusor to Arginine, not Carnitine.
@@jonnull You are right, editing out the Citrulline comment. I think I meant to say beta-alanine, a better precursor to "Carnosine" which is a different amino-acid with some promising health research. Citrulline and other Nitric-Oxide producers are great for a workout but have more conflicting evidence regarding long term benefits.
Can a-l-car still upregulate androgen receptors and if so how much relative to l-car?
Dosage?
You didnt discuss dosages and LC forms
Thank you for another gem! Is L-Carnitine and Acetyl L Carnitine the same ?
From what I understand, they’re pretty much similar in terms of function…. Acetyl L Carnitine supposedly has better absorption in the small intestine and crosses the blood brain barrier much better. So dosage could be different? Though not entirely sure.
@@petermiljak thank you so much for your reply, I just bought the Acetyl one for better energy at the gym, glad it’s the same. Again much appreciated
Dosage anyone ?
I’ve heard that alcar is the best form to take orally, or you have to inject it. Is this correct?
Yeah you didn't mention TMAO.
Weight loss ?
I took this supplement! And nothing happened.
You might have (a)good diet
I have a bottle now, and I've been sleeping on it. I barely take it.
