What is CARNITINE and Is It Worth Taking? | QuickFIT #2

  • Here's another moderately popular fitness supplement touted for its potential fat loss increase and performance boost: CARNITINE. Having connections to important fitness markers such as nitric oxide, lactate, and fatty acid transport, it certainly looks to be a major player. Whether supplementation is worth it, though, is another question.

I suffer intermittent claudication (Pain or tightness in the lower leg due to inadequate blood flow)when engaged in strenuous activity and have found Glycine Propionyl L-Carnitine very effective in improving blood flow. Am a T1D too. This form of Carnitine is effective. Additionally, taking ALCAR + Alpha Lipoic Acid in 600 mg doses before bed has decreased neuropathy symptoms. Learned about it's use on the Linus Pauling Institute site years ago.

Other than creatine and caffeine, the only supplements that actually work for me is citrulline mallate, beta alanine, and carnitine. My opinion would be that if what u stated were to be correct (assuming it is) then the only benefit could come from a placebo effect and nothing else... which is better than nothing. i mean the brain can trick itself to believe anything even that by taking some chemicals with no to minimal proven effect u get a mental boost and/or other positive illusions. When taking supplements it's vital to do so in moderating like anything in life balance is important.

If you're new to this lifestyle, you may want to incorporate cheat meals (around maybe 3 meals per week at most) It might also be best to think of calories in a weekly basis. Nobody can gain 1 lb a day unless they eat an additional 3500 calories. Don't sweat it. If you overeat for one day, just eat slightly less throughout the remainder of the week! Hope this helps

I have a question, does eating gum help with weight loss. It may sound weird but I like to just go into my pantry to go and find food to eat for no reason either than I want to eat something and lately I have been going on bike rides to 7/11 and I find myself buying gum. Whenever I get home I normally grab a gum and start chewing and I haven't been snooping in the pantry as much in result... so idk if this would help at all but it did make me want to go to 7/11 more on bike and made me randomly eat less so move more eat less?

    • @akeh817

eating is always healthy for weight loss. it just depends on what your eating and when. if your eating less carb then you will feel less energized and to much protein and have fun in the bathroom. its a balance. losing weight isnt about eating more or less but rather routine and a caloric deficit. but eating less/more has no correlation to losing more weight.

I'm 5 years late to the party but I doubt the studies cited used enough oral L-carnitine or any injected L-carnitine. This could really undermine their relevance as the bioavailability of L-carnitine is only 14% to 18%, and only mega-dosing, injection, or some other means of increased bioavailability could overcome this barrier. A good study of it's effects in the body would have to take this into account. I think that the reason there is so much pushback from people who have been mega-dosing or injecting L-carnitine is that for us it has been very effective at improving energy, endurance, and mood. Not to mention the strong clinical evidence, not mentioned here, that L-carnitine upregulates androgen receptors. It may not live up to all the hype in the manosphere, nothing does, but it certainly has some benefit, is safe, and is fairly cheap as well. I'd recommend people just try it for themselves.

Like is I were to do a bicep curl that utilises the biceps range of movement and muscle fibre direction to a bicep curl that is slightly off going to one side which as in instead of touching your bicep with the dumbbells you try to go to the left to make it more uncomfortable for the bicep I'm just asking if it's worth doing this with a bit lower weights or not because it's not optimizing the biceps muscle fibre direction so less of it can help out meaning more isolation of certain fibres in theroy? This can be applied to other exercises too im pretty sure
