The key takeaways from Thomas Delauer's revised perspective on supplements in 2024 emphasize the importance of adaptability, informed decision-making, and the nuanced role of supplements in health and fitness:
    1. **Evolving Understanding**: Delauer's changing views on supplements highlight the dynamic nature of nutritional science and the importance of staying updated with the latest research and expert opinions.
    2. **Glutamine's Dual Role**: While glutamine may not significantly impact muscle building, it plays a crucial role in gut barrier recovery, particularly in specific health situations, albeit with potential risks in certain conditions.
    3. **GABA's Limited Efficacy**: GABA supplements might not be as effective for calming purposes as previously thought, due to their inability to cross the blood-brain barrier easily, suggesting alternatives like Kava might be more beneficial.
    4. **Whey Protein Nuances**: The benefits of whey protein concentrate, especially its lactoferrin content, are recognized alongside whey protein isolate, highlighting their respective roles in recovery and muscle synthesis.
    5. **Long-term Benefits of Fish Oil**: Fish oil's value lies in its long-term cardiovascular and overall health benefits, rather than immediate cognitive effects, underscoring the importance of consistent omega-3 intake.
    6. **Coenzyme Q10 for Energy Efficiency**: Coenzyme Q10 is acknowledged for its ability to improve energy efficiency and quality of life, extending its benefits beyond low-carb dieters and fasters to a broader population, especially the elderly.
    7. **Carnitine's Importance in Exercise**: Carnitine is essential for fat metabolism and energy production, particularly for those engaged in intense physical activity, challenging previous skepticism about its necessity.
    8. **Strategic Use of EAAs**: Essential amino acids are particularly beneficial for lean individuals or those in a caloric deficit during fasted workouts to prevent muscle catabolism, refining Delauer's earlier stance on their impact on fasting.
    9. **Adaptogens with Caution**: The use of adaptogens like Astragalus should be strategic and not continuous to avoid potential negative effects, indicating a more sophisticated understanding of their role in health.
    10. **Collagen's Broader Impact**: Collagen is recognized not only for its role in connective tissue health but also for its potential in muscle protein synthesis and unique signaling properties that promote collagen formation.

I started supplementing hydrolyzed collagen protein heavily about 6 months ago. I add it along with vitamin C to everything I drink throughout the day, approximately 6 servings per day. I'm 67 years old and tend to overtrain in regards to resistance training , usually going to failure or near failure depending on the workout that day. The big takeaway for me is that I'm not breaking down or injuring, something that wasn't the case for me in years past. It's definitely making a difference in regards to maintaining and building connective tissue rapidly. Thanks, great information.

My grand father was a gymnast. Born in 1912. All he did was eat food. He and grandma grew their own tomatoes. He had the body of a gymnast until grandma died . He was 85. He drank brandy and smoked. He had no medications at all. When grandma died his mind, feelings and soul went the opposite direction.
My point is, is that a sound mind and gut equals a sound body🤷🏿‍♂️🤷‍♂️ do whatever it takes to be happy. Make those around us happy. Don’t worry be happy. If it takes vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc., do it. Much of what we do or take, maybe more placebo than what anything we take does for us! Placebo is powerful. Stay happy my brother and sister (s)

On the CoQ10, most supplements use Ubiquinone form as it was the only kind easily produced. A company came up with a way to make the Ubiquinone form, which is the type of molecule that drops with age. Now Ubiqinol is becoming the recommended version of CoQ10 as it has MUCH higher bioavailability than ubiquinone. But most supplements still use ubiquinone as it's cheaper to make.

when I started keto and fasting I would l carnitine during my fast while I was at work. Placebo or not I feel like it helped me tap more into my fat stores because I lost about 60 pounds that winter I think probably a 5 month stretch I went from 270 down to 218. I worked in a wood mill so my work was repetitive lifting. Prior to fasting and and l carnitine I wouldnt loose anything.

I took a glutamine supplement on the suggestion of a friend who is 55 and ripped, and another friend who started firefighting at 48. Both told me that glutmaine helps them reciver from intense workouts again like they were in their 30s. I ( m 45) tried it and they were spot on. my recovery got noticeably better- less soreness and weakness after workouts. So much so that when I got a new drink, I didnt notice that it was a different formula with no glutmaine, andafter my next 2 workouts I felt awful for a whole day. Weak, sore, tired. after 2 workouts I checked the ingredients- No glutamin! I immediately got a drink with the magic G powder, and suddenly workouts were awesome again. Not a placebo affect! It made a massive difference in how I recovered.

Interesting your comments on adaptogens, and that you believe they shouldn't be taken all the time. Until now, all I'd ever heard on your & channels like yours is that Ashwagandha is essential for controlling stress and getting Cortisol under control. Now you've turned that on it's head, haven't you? 🙄
