He was talking past tense about his family before the detective told him they were dead
Yes! He even caught himself one of the first times he started to say “was”, and then stopped just short of finishing it. But then after that, he continues using past tense phrases constantly.
Yesss I caught that too!!!
Yes! At 41:05 he says his dad "was". Slipped up there!
I noticed that too. Big red flag.
The only reason he didn’t get the death sentence was because the jury felt bad for his brother Jason
I have heard this case before and it never ceases to just scare me that he got very attached and obsessed with this cam girl.. so sad.
He must have had some kind of mental health issues.
@@lancestone4409simp issues
He is the true definition of a simp 🤢🤮
I also think she probably did a lot to make it seem like a closer relationship
How is someone so messed up he kills his family, blows 200 grand on such bs. Some people are so messed up.
It’s not that there was no DNA; it’s that what they have is useless because Grant Amato was living at the home before it became a crime scene. Unfortunately, this makes his DNA circumstantial.
I thought the same thing when they said that.
Why in the world does he feel he owed complete strangers an apology for lying to them....but not to his own family? He lied, stole & murdered them. That is impossible to comprehend
Entitled
The woman,that is!
Ikr!!! My thoughts exactly at that exact moment in the video
39:35 A parasite is a great way to describe Grant!! He really is. He suck’s everything out of anyone around him. Doesnt seem like he’s been responsible about anything his whole life until murdering his family. I hate this guy so much words cannot describe.
All I kept thinking was "You ungrateful sh*t!". Some people are just not worth the air that they breathe.
He would rather be a human piggy bank to a random girl who cares less than nothing about him, than be a son, brother, friend....Jesus, how do people like this NOT see reality? Felt so bad for the surviving brother.
I feel so bad for Jason. For the sake of Jason only having Grant left in his immediate family, I don't know that death penalty would have been right. As you always says think about the surviving victims. Either way I'm glad he got life.
Would you even consider him a family member after this?
I think they keep these types alive so that they can catch them slip on their phone calls and/or letters and they’ll use it when he tries to appeal his sentence.
You might be slow 🤣🤣🤡🤡🤣🤡
Describing him as "Parasite" is dead on!
agreed! I thought the same thing
Cody was a nurse anesthesiologist so he would wear surgical gear, I'm curious if Grant had visited him at work right before the killings and stole the PPE to commit the murders. He also would know how to scrub himself sterile.
This case always sticks in the back of my mind. It’s so wild just like Chandler (can’t remember his last name) who lied to his parents for years and eventually ended up killing them. It makes absolutely no sense to me.
Halderson. I just said the same thing. Crazy cases.
And Joel Guy and who killed his parents for the insurance because they were going to cut him off. He was an adult
Jennifer Pan did the exact same thing. I don't like disappointing my parents either, but sheesh!
These people are psychopaths and they have different modes of thinking. It's very scary that they have no remorse.
Jason is bad ass. The composure he had on the stand after all he had been through is amazing. He is so articulate and he's a better person than me saying he still loves the brother that killed his family. When he said he wants to protect his girls so that nothing can hurt them, it made me tear up. He likely has PTSD and some survivors guilt and must worry about his loved ones a lot. I hope he and his family find peace.
Even if you committed an atrocity like this, you’d think there would be SOME emotion.
something has to be not working in the brain
Has a strong resentment towards his family imo
Hmm. I’ve heard him called a narcissist. A sociopath and a psychopath. I think that Grant had no personality of his own and just followed Cody’s career aspirations. Morally bankrupt, one of the best terms to explain Darrell E. Brooks.
Well if you're able to commit such a crime... feeling emotion after is probably not going to happen.
Depends on the physiological issues. I have anti-social personality with dissociative tendencies. Which causes me to be almost incapable of forming emotional connections or feeling sympathy/empathy. There’s maybe 3-4 people I associate with that I actually care if they live or not. All that being said I have absolutely no thoughts nor desire to do anything to harm anyone. I just feel more comfortable being alone, or having animals with me. I like animals much more than I do humans 😂
Rip to this poor family. I hope Jason is okay!
No one else was involved because Grant has no friends!
That was my exact thought
Especially not those weirdos in that internet chat
His right hand was his only friend
It is so sad that so many people are addicted to pornography and these webcam models. This case shows that pornography is not harmless. She probably had 100 other guys who were obsessed with her as well.
You are so right. He was obviously mentally unstable and that's why his parents wanted him to get treatment.
Nonsense. I’m a recovering alcoholic and do I blame alcohol for that? No. I don’t.
@@harryparsons2750facts alcoholic addict here. I don't blame drugs or alcohol
He wasn't her only customer so I don't know how he thought he was her boyfriend when he's sitting in a chat with other dudes. !? 😅
Men like this easily delude themselves into think they are actually in a relationship with the woman. It’s very scary
He's a dumb dumb who got a thrill out of competing with them maybe
He's pathetic loser!
Well, he was actually paying for private chats, but that doesn't make it any better. Just about any sex worker will pretend to be your girlfriend for ten dollars per minute, especially if she doesn't actually have to have sex with you.
My husband is a detective for our county. He’s been a detective for 27 years and is about to retire. He has always said he needs to let the suspect be the smartest person in the room. Especially if they love to talk about themselves. He will find out more information that way. He knows what anime is and would’ve known what that kid was talking about, but playing dumb lets him find out what the suspect really thinks
Grant Amado, Joel Guy Jr and Chandler Halderson are not human. They’re the worst of the worst. Their parents supported and loved them. Their parents all tried with them. They weren’t abused. They weren’t mistreated. Yet they decided that murdering their family was the way to go. I just can’t wrap my head around it. Those three were normal families.
I like how he says, his dad WAS an angry man.
If my son took over 2 hundred thousand dollars I would be angry too. His brother knew he did it because he told Grant that he doesn’t feel safe being alone with him
This case is so sad. I'm glad that justice was served. The ending testimonies crushed my heart. Great episode guys
Every time I’ve heard about this story it stuns me how he is the parallel of exactly how my in-laws take care of my sister in law and I’m just like holy cow dude like the enabling is going to get you NOT what you hope it will, look at this dude. Poor family just wanted to help this guy but didn’t realize that the most dangerous time to deal with a person especially in crisis or addiction is when they’ve got nothing left to lose. 😳
This is kinda like the Chandler Halderson case. He killed his parents because he lied about school and his career and his dad found out. These dudes are insane.
Scary to think you could get married work your ass off have kids and they turn out like Chandler or Grant
@@MarlonBrando414 exactly!
Chandler is pure evil
Joel Guy Jr too, his parents cut him off and he cut them up, even boiled his mom's head!
I heard this story on another podcast. I like hearing the same story from different shows, its a different perspective
Unfortunately some people are just living proof of what happens if you never achieve for better. Similar to Chandler Halderson
He even resembles Chandler Halderson
I can't imagine why his streaming career didn't take off😂
Personality of an undercooked pancake 😭
It’s always the good people with the brightest lights that are snuffed out by evil people.
Thanks for covering this one guys. I had not heard this story and you gave the victims a voice at the end. Love you guys & LOP
I don't know how these investigators have such patience, I couldn't do it.
Very proper outro giving space for the victim statements, that was powerful
I absolutely love everything you guys do and the hard work you put in thank you🧡
Grant is so pathetic for being dependent on Cody for everything. It’s a blessing that my sister and I went to separate schools for most of my life due to my learning disability. I was able to make my own friends and have my own hobbies.
An old Buddhist wise man sharing wisdom: “once a bomb goes off, you can’t diffuse it” looooooool
Im a decently- ern, WAS a decently successful creator on OF. Used to be a cam girl. I can confirm 200k on toys and services.... Boi my menu dont even have enough options. Boy is insane. Man was in straight up psychosis driven my sexual deviancy. Chilling.
Great show , so something paranormal there is a story about a staircases out in the middle of the woods , I would love to know more about this, if you find it interesting , maybe do a show on this!
Yea they should cover it, it would be a nice topic variety and sounds interesting!
I looked for this and I’ve not been able to find any legitimate information
Those testimonies at the end killed me.
This idiot had it all. A family who loved him and paid for his college education, a beautiful place to live, and all the support one would ever need. I have no support. I had no help. I had no child support to help pay for my children and I lost my home because my ex started working under the table. Some people don’t know what they have. Yes, he did it!
This case has always perplexed me. The big question I have is... how would this case be different if he parents/family were not relatively wealthy? What would he have done to others to go to this length? Soooo scary. Rest in peace to his family that only seemed to want to help him.
He basically paid for her retirement fund for her boyfriend & her (most likely!) on the other end. He's so pathetic.
Grant wasn't given consequences growing up.... Everyone bailed him out. Grant never asked what happened because he knows what happened. Point blank he was told no and he didn't like it
He referred to his dad in the past-tense..."he was...")
I was excited that you guys brought up this case! I'm almost in my last semester of forensic science and it's so cool what you can piece together from a crime scene from just a little thing.
I've seen a few videos on this case but i think you guys coverage was the best! So interesting seeing the interrogation/court footage. Poor Jason 💔
It's crazy how much in the past tense he spoke throughout the entire interrogation, pretty much from the start. He legit referred to his mother, father and brother as if they were no longer around/existed, you'd think that would've been something the detectives pointed out right away.
Listening to this police interview (haven’t finished yet), I notice he’s speaking about everyone in past tense before the police even tell him why he’s there.
Great coverage, I remember this case. Hard to forget. That stalker stare was undeniable when they mentioned Sylvia.
Wonder if anyone reached out to sylvie during all this? How does she feel about all this? Did he seem "off" when she talked with him? How much did it effect her? Hopefully shes got thru it & doing all rite.
Great episode guys❤
I was wondering the same! I mean some will argue that she took advantage of him, milking an obviously desperate loser for cash, but first of all he's an adult and secondly there's no way she could have known how far he would go... Also we don't know how basic or deep their conversations ever were, so maybe she couldn't even have picked up on his "unhinged-ness"? But her perspective sure would have been interesting and I also hope she doesn't blame herself for anything
I think this was the most informative video I have seen covering this case. It's so shocking all the way around, and the lack of emotion and the downplay of what transpired is mind boggling.
this case is wild, eager to hear your guys’ perspective!
I think the most interesting part is the initial interrogation of the killers, what tense are they talking about the deceased in? He kept it past tense 95% of the time, like they were already dead, how would he know that though? They give it away little by little without even realising it. The way he talks about them just shows he’s trying to defend his actions to himself, totally trying to make his reality true.. it’s crazy how they will just talk after they just took lives too….chilling
I remember this crazy. Cant wait to hear you all takes.🙋🏾♀️🤣🫶🏽👍🏿👍🏿
I dont know why but i had to giggle when Grant's attorney said that he also had no shooting experience. If someone owns a SINGLE gun, there's a good chance they'd know how to use it over time
I love you guys so much you are so relaxed and chilled and present such fascinating content.
Grant lost the intervoew when he says my dad 'was' or would and not 'is' or 'does' awful case poor family. Love your show guys from Wales in the UK ❤🏴
Like Chris Watts
noswaith dda!
Also a fellow welshie here 🏴
Grant, what nightmare. They say narcissists/psychopaths have both genetic and environmental factors. The environmental factors here were, instead of trauma, spoiling or enabling. Im not saying that its his family's fault, no. How were they to know that they had a narcissistic/psychopathic child? Their parenting worked perfectly well on the normal boys. But Grant interpreted everything differently because of his lack of empathy and self. He needed to fill that void inside himself. And when what filled him was taken away he raged. This is what scares me most: people who are depending on something that I cannot comprehend, whose personalities are false 'just to fit in'. These 'things' who look like people but do not act like them. Ive met enough already and I do not want to meet another.
There’s another thing people don’t like to mention nor talk about
Too many times history it self has shown women bring the worst out of men
Soon true. My ex has a diagnosed narcisstic personality disorder. He had no childhood trauma, his mum and dad are still married, middle class. As a 30 year old man he has physically threatened his mother, alienates our children from them (they see the kids through me) and yet his car has issues and he runs to his daddy to fix it. Expects them to drop everything the second he needs something. The crazy thing too me is they do. Makes me grateful for the awful childhood I had because at least I'm not a soulless monster 😂.
@@Moon22884I believe it’s called entitlement. They believe that people owe them this. My brother was like that except he didn’t murder anyone. He did hit my mom but that was his mistake, my mom took a broom stick and beat the heck out of him
Omg thank you so much for the info on pet insurance. I heard this just in time for my fur babies. Love your podcast
Listening to Jason absolutely broke my heart 💔
Lights Out bestiessss😌❤️ happy I get to tune in before the crazy work shift tonight
The title!!!! This was a good one!
Awesome content as usual dudes, thank you for another banger!! Never heard of this case until now and it didnt disappoint 👏❤️
This is becoming my favourite channel so fast like crazy
🎉🎉❤ in time for the episode! I’m a huge fan of all things mile higher❤️
Very chill guys. Easy to listen too.
Great episode LOP. Love yall.
He keeps referring to his family members in the past tense 😶
I thank you guys for ending with statements from the family when they are available.
Thing that stands out to be about the interview is that he keeps going back and forth between current and past tense when talking about his family.
If you guys are interested, you could make a video on Luka Rocco Magnota (killed a guy on video and ate parts of him)
They should!! That video, and that case have haunted me since I was a young girl..it may actually be what sparked my interest in true crime, though the video traumatized me. I was young, stupid, and had unfettered internet access 😔
Wow I’ve never heard of this
@@marzashsame, he’s actually in prison in my home town 🫣
I wonder what Sylvie thought of a guy killing his family over her…..
I think I heard she was contacted by the police and asked if she wanted to help on the case which she declined
Happy Friday!! This is such a crazy story!! Also, comment and like #1, had the day off, and was checking for the live time, and there the episode was!!
I just wanted to touch on the part at 45 mins in where yall say that the detectives don’t know what anime is, cam models, etc… this is a tactic used verrryyy often to make the suspect think they are the smartest ones in the room. Usually used to get the suspect to keep talking, make them comfortable and then they usually over share because they think the detectives are too dumb to see the truth.
“People don’t think the cops can help you, but we really can.” 😂 Yeah, ‘help’ you go to prison. If a cop ever says that to you in an interrogation room, stop talking immediately.
This was a good one !
It seems like Grant was addicted to Sylvia. He stole and manipulated everyone around him to fund his Sylvia addiction… and eventually that led to him murdering his family as well. This is definitely a bizarre case and my thoughts and prayers are with the surviving family members and friends that lost their loved ones in such a ruthless and heinous manner.
I’ve watched a video on this case before but have never seen the interrogation footage. Absolutely insane
Great work as always guys! 🙏 Annabelle is always angry back there lol
That impact statement from Jason at the end;
“My uncle, who was sorry he wasn’t there to protect his little sister”
That’s the part that utterly broke me. Being the oldest brother of two sisters, I don’t know what I would do if anything happened to them.
Yeah, I can tell how pissed off Josh is by his facial expression in the thumbnail of the video 😡🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow This is so Interesting I Love the cases you cover
The police will help a tripple murderer? No, not ever, says every lawyer on You Tube!
I actually don’t live far from here (drive by it daily on the way to work) crazy how Minimal reporting was done from local news considering how interesting the case is
I always confuse this case with the Joel Guy Jr case. They seem similar with the exception of the online girlfriend aspect.
I understand living with your parents in your twenties (early to maybe mid 20s) if you are in financial troubles, but the fact that he didn't work at all is astounding. The least he could do is help pay the bills.
Love your channel 👍
There were missed signs with grant. There was something not right with him. So sad for the family
Yea so suspicious that you just casually talk about your family for 3 hours without even knowing why.
Did he ever once ask them "why am i being taken to the police station??" What's going on?!" I didnt hear him ask any questions like that. Real fkn weird..
Edit: at 35:07 Josh brings that up 😃
He didn't
Sorry I missed the premiere was watching about the Preble Penny case. Such a plot twist
Wow. This video was really well done. Those statements at the end had me in tears. It’s sad that I can watch these normally as informative and don’t get so emotional, but this really hit hard. They sounded like such amazing people. I live about 30 minutes away and, as a paralegal, am familiar with this judge as I’ve had her on cases. I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of this case.
Love you guys!
I've seen a couple other TC episodes of this case! It is truly tragic that Grant didn't appreciate that he already had the most loving parents and brother. He has to be suffering from a mental disorder that made him believe the girl in the video was his true love. What he did was such a terrible waste of human opportunities and services to their families, friends, coworkers and strangers. Grant deserves to rot in jail.
They have to interrogate like they dont know a single thing so they can get the complete perspective of the person being interrogated. They need to know what a "cam girl" means to him essentially. I feel bad for Jason, his impact statement hit the hardest. His genuine upset from the very beginning says everything, he was not involved. Grant came off entitled and selfish from the first second they interrogated him all the way to not having gratitude for his life being saved. Its the entitlement, he expected it in the same way he expected his family to enable and bail him out. Really glad the jury went the way they did, I was concerned for a bit there due to the lack of evidence.
When they asked him where his dad works he was already referring him in past tense. He said "my dad worked" at CVS. If he didnt know his dad was dead most likely he would have said "my dad works"
Thank you guys for all the hardwork you put in your videos!
Seen this year's ago.Its a really interesting story
Wow just Wow, that broke my heart
Jason’s testimony really got me. Wow! Rest in peace Chad, Margaret and Cody. And my condolences to Jason and the rest of his family/friends.😢
Can’t wait to listen to this!! I’ve been watching you guys for a while now and I’m so grateful for the content quality you guys are my favourite :)
Yall's commentary cracks me up 🤣 "So what they had a quick draw"
Lights Out lets go
