They don’t have to pay E1’s “minimum wage” because they provide healthcare for free, housing for free, and part of their income had already been taken out to provide a food stipend for them. When tallying all that up, it is way over minimum wage they pay if you had to pay all that yourself.

My dad joined the Marines to turn his life around. Up until that point he was a major chain smoker and nearly homeless. He had to turn his life around in the most extreme way possible to become the father I love. And believe me they left him with some parting gifts. They might not take your money, but they will take away your soul and your ability to eat anything remotely fun without puking out your insides.

Whenever I feel bad about myself as a man, I look up to some of personal heroes for inspiration. Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, John Brown, James A. Garfield, etc. I look at the stuff they went through and how they ultimately achieved their goals. Then afterward I feel a bit better about myself because I'll be reminded that greatness can be accomplished. And I didn't need to spend $18,000 to do it.

I went through a 6 week basic training boot camp in the Canadian armed forces. This is nothing compared to real military training. Most of the candidates in my platoon quit because our NCOs were rough on us. 18K 3 day bootcamp is nothing
I learned tons of skills and life lessons that will contribute to my personal life and military life.
I'm in the US Army our boot camp was 11 weeks
