1960 Johnson 10hp QD21 coil replacement/wobbly timing plate. Will it run?

    Hey man, thanks for the video. I have the same exact motor and have run into pretty much the same exact issues as you. We may have been working on the magneto at the same exact time 🤔 Thanks for the reference

    I recently got a 66 Johnson 20 hp motor and I'm experiencing the same problem with the timing plate. I hope to get it fixed so that I can get back out on the water again

    So what are you adjusting the coils off of?

      Where the coil sits on the timing plate, the aluminum pads that the steel coil laminations sit on, the edge of the coil laminations need to be flush with the edge of the aluminum pads. If the coil is to far towards the center, the air gap between the coil and flywheel magnets is too much and you get weak or no spark. If it overhangs the coil will rub on the flywheel
