Good job on the fuel pump. I replaced all my old hoses on my merc last year but put stainless hose clamps on. Only ones I use tie straps on now are for air and water. Also I found the gas tank ball hoses will last longer removing them in the fall, draining them and put in my shed. I'm going to shoot some fogging spray in them too this fall to see how that works
Two years ago i changed fuel lines to my 6hp OMC and forgot to put any hose clamps at all (this video reminded me to install hose clamps). I used pneumatic line, because i had to do a quick temporary fix. ....everyone knows how permanent those temporary fixes can sometimes be 😁
I’m so glad that you didn’t just bash the pressure tanks ! I like them and never had a problem with one but like you stated the double line is more money , about $5 a foot is what I pay for it ! Sometimes I just double up on automotive fuel line and zip tie it together ! Also I found a fuel pump from a 1960’s evinrude is clocked perfect !
@Maddog worker I can always use a pressure tank ! Lol . I might have a line on a trailer for you , a guy might give it to me but he has to check and see if his grandkids might want it first !
Hi Brandon. Why not run the gas supply line behind the Motörhead instead of going around the front to the fuel connector? Love your videos - I have learned a lot.
If you can’t find the bypass cover (and they can be hard to find and expensive) then the other way to accomplish this is to use a fuel pump that has a third barb on it to take the pulse from the motor. T-Mike ( a CZcamsr) has a good video on this with the Koehler part number for the fuel pump included in the video. It is an inexpensive and decent way to do this without having to source the special plate to screw to the side of the power head.
Unbelievable nice job I have 10hp Johnson Sea Horse 1959 and need to replace 4 rubber bushing ,would you recommend take a part lower unit or engine, to remove bushing ,thank you .
Good tech video and explanation Brandon! That 10 HP Johnson runs like a watch now with it's new fuel pump upgrade and the previous replacement of OEM coils, points, and condenser. SWEET Work safe, stay cool! Doug@ the "ranch"
Did you have to pull check valves behind reed plate and plug one of them … some say yes some say no having a hard time getting straight answer for some reason
Is it possible to use a copper pipe on the "snaky" bit? Leeroys ramblings.... that's a website every OMC owner should know. That site has helped me many times over the years.
can you provide me with the part number associated with that fuel pump. Also what did you do about the vacum inlet behind the reeds, just block it off ?
Hbkolb1@gmail.com no I don't have to come from bulbs or when I do it is still tight it's not like the gas line is running out of fuel am I sucking the bulb dry could it be a float problem I disassembled the fuel pump it looks brand-new inside and out no debris
Nice mod. When are you going to do more pontoon boat video. I managed to get my hands on a set of pontoons with a good deck Now all I have to do is build a steering consol add seats railing an I will be all good
Just keep an eye out for railing. email people selling a pontoon deck like yours, and ask about the railing. Next video should be about the pontoon, goal is Tuesday.
Here is the happs; Unofficially, CZcams wants a video every 7 days to continue recommending videos to those potentially interested. I don't have much more pontoon content ready for a whole video - but this, I was able to pop out in a couple hours. Basically, It buys me time for finish up the next pontoon video.
What was the size of the second line you installed on the motor? Thanks
I like the mercury carbs that have the fuel pump mounted to the carburetor. great video

Maybe put those two lines inside of heat-shrink tubing instead of zip-ties..
I heard you say the fuel line was 5/16. What proper size fuel line back to the carb, it looks smaller?
3/16
If you push with a screw driver on "Zip" tie lock while pulling with plyers you can effectivly get them tighter so no chance they will leak.......
I am reviving an outboard just like this! Thank you for the info! Where can I get the matching spray paint?
Brandon ... you say the fuel line was 5/16. What proper size fuel line back to the carb, it looks smaller
5/32 I believe
Thanks much ... that was quick!

@brandon'sgarage do you have a part number for that bypass cover
This would help a lot with my search as well.
Also looking for this bypass cover
OMC part number is 305751. You can find it on marineengine.com

There are gas tank liner products that is designed for rusty tanks.

Im looking to do the same. Where did you get your parts and numbers?

can that type fuel pump be installed on the 54, 55, 56, 57 ?
I'm attempting this with a 7.5 its seems I'm not getting fuel to the pistons in there anything that has to be plugged in the reeds?
Not by doing it this way.
Any other way yes.
Hey man I have a 58 15hp evinrude fastwin. Trying to find that bypass cover that accommodates the fuel pump. Cant seem to locate one. Any ideas?
Keep it original,get pressure tank.
@Brandon’sGarage Where did you find / get the fuel connector?
So what fuel pump did you use? And what was the part number?
can you provide me with the part number associated with that fuel pump. Also what did you do about the vacum inlet behind the reeds, just block it off ?
We’re you able to find an answer to this question? I’m having problems getting straight answer on same question
I have the exact same motor. Do you have the part number for the bypass cover and the fuel pump used?
Please i need it too
I need it to
Me too!!!
Around 2:45 you reference a lawn mower fuel pump that works off of a pressure pulse I believe that's what someone has done to my 57
At high speeds on an 8-foot hydroplane it will run for a while and then die out
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
does it start right back up? do you have to pump the primer bulb?
It may be running out of fuel at high speed
Hbkolb1@gmail.com no I don't have to come from bulbs or when I do it is still tight it's not like the gas line is running out of fuel am I sucking the bulb dry could it be a float problem I disassembled the fuel pump it looks brand-new inside and out no debris
So buy doing it the way you did it, you didn't have to take out the reed valves, right?
whats the part number Brandon for the new cover? Thanks Will it fit my 1958 15 hp?
Did you mean 18 HP?
If so, its 307477
Brandon's Garage my motor is a 1958 Johnson 15 hp
@@mastman2315 but... It's not
would this process be the same for an 57 18hp
Pretty much. I just did it on my 57 18 horse.
@@jacksonrabern9012 great thank you for the advice gonna get started on it soon.
How can I get in touch with your for just just a few simple questions?
also what color paint did you use?
believe its called 58 holiday bronze

Where is the pontoon boat
He's multitasking the outboard motor stuff and the pontoon boat, I'm being patient, a quality I usually don't have.
