After 9 holes of of this I was throwing just as far as I normally do with a run up! Disc was coming out flat and way more accurate. It almost feels like a slap in the face considering all the time I’ve put in my form/footwork LOL. Hopefully your next video will be just as enlightening. Thanks for all that you do!
Im so happy now, that I decided to do just the last step of the x-step. This is exactly how I throw last two, three months. It just works, you just need to learn to work with it...

Tbh this is hardest and most impactful part of the throw to get those yeet gains! Love this paced series to build up your form.
I had really been focusing on trying to land with my front foot square or slightly closed, because it's always landing slightly open, and it just felt extremely difficult until I realized I was not actually coiling my shoulders like I thought, I was just sticking my arm back/out. If I actually coil correctly, the front foot will land in the proper position and I don't have to think about my foot at all. Taking a golf club or stick and holding it behind your shoulders horizontally and practicing coiling your shoulders 90° is an age-old golf drill that translates well. I'm back to stand-stills and one-steps.
I'm a righty with weirdly flexible hips. The stuff about your right foot being further back than others has helped me unlock way more coil. I had this idea that you needed to keep your feet perpendicular to the target. But from just practicing at home I can tell this will help.
Great stuff! Been doing this to help feel what the tension should feel like and I can notice the difference! I don’t even incorporate an X step, just 1 step then coil/plant and already pushing my max distance by 20ft.
After trying to put a lot of pieces together I’ve been revisiting coiling and watched this about 5 times lol. around the 645 mark was the lightbulb moment for me. Literally had one of the most accurate rounds today in quite sometime this video is gold!
Something I recently started to notice was the natural angle of my feet when I walk. My feet tend to slightly flare outwards. Whenever I would walk sideways, I would turn my foot so it was 90 degrees towards my target and then when I did my x-step, I would moon walk. When I started to walk sideways in my wall up and had my foot flared out like it naturally is, I was able to not turn backwards and my plant was way better. Thank you for mentioning this small but often overlooked detail. I’ll commit to looking like a crazy person for you until the next video. Thanks for your time making these videos.

Great lesson and definitely one I needed. The build-up of tension in the back leg is a great cue and helps emphasize how much power comes from the lower body.

Love these videos and the series. Since I have a feeling you're big into the science of it all I would phrase it when the feet are "flaring out" as "external rotation of the hip" (when you said "how people are put together"). Everyone has a natural amount of external rotation of their hips, some more than others as you pointed out. Just a friendly tip from a follower who happens to be a physician. Keep up the good work!
Pivoting at the hip is something I'm actively trying to work on. I heard on another channel that pulling your trail hip back, and then transitioning into pulling your lead hip back was the right way to coil. (Which Josh confirmed in this video.) It's not enough to just rotate everything and be facing backwards. I'm not sure how I missed that before now. When people talk about powering the shot with the hips, I was more or less swinging them instead of rotating them.
Definitely going to have to get more flexible in the hip department as I work on this. 😅
Thank you! I am rounding and I think a big reason is because I am not turning the hps and shoulders. My other big issue that I am seeing is my lead shoulder continues to be higher throughout my run up, which is definitely a big reason that I sky many shots.

Thanks for pointing out that the arm does not have to be straight and extended. The trunk turn is the coil, not the arm extention.
Often thinking about extending the arm causes problems: back foot pivoting backwards, rounding, loss of balance, pulling, and accelerating too soon.

90% shoulder turn, 45% hip turn ... the "X Factor" that's been taught in golf for decades.
I'm not a power arm by any means - my average "in the open" golf throw max distance has gotten to about 325 with a Crave - but working on coil via these videos and Holyn's tips (also a sneaky NEDG Expo form review) is what I think has caused me the biggest gains. I'm up 75-100ft in the past year.
Side question - when I throw, I rotate on my toe, kind of like Paul. Is it worth it to bite the bullet and become a heel pivot-er?

I wouldn’t. The 90 degree angle seems to be a minimum and it opens up in the backswing and through/after the pocket

Great video. At the beginning its definitely difficult to turn upper body backwards and step forward at the same time cause it feels kind of unnatural. Body needs to get used to this motion

I do have a question, something I have been working on a lot is putting. I am running into an inconsistency, some days I will line up and throw a spin putt 10-25 feet out and be pretty confedent, but the moment I move to 26-30 feet I miss left (i'm left handed). I tried working on geting the legs involved more as to not arm it, but the stuggle is real. Any tips?

I’m a new player, and coiling/bracing have been big pain points for me. I have flared hips, and rotating my foot so it is straight is uncomfortable (they naturally sit at about 45° outwards. Since my hips are naturally flared, does that make a difference in what foot positioning might do to my ability to generate power?
Probably but I’m not smart enough to answer that.

@@OverthrowDiscGolf to be fair it took me like 20 years of my life (a month away from 30 now) before doctors fully figured out what was going on with me so even some doctors might not be helpful 😂
Also, when you combine this drill with one leg drill how do u stay on back toe?
In my One Leg Drill I start standing completely on front foot and with rear foot on very tippy toes and then let my rear heel come swivel down targetward in backswing, it moves the pressure around the foot which frees up more range of motion and also gives some more stability and leverage.

question: when it comes to plant foot and reach back, for optimal timing, I've always heard that plant foot should happen first (slightly) not simultaneously with reachback. I interpreted this as "starting the reachback" during the plant is OK but that your hand should reach the final reachback point immediately after the plant foot plants. E.g. in a "1, 2, 3, 4, 5" timing, plant foot is 1, and reaching the peak of reachback should be a distinct 2.
For beginners I think doing this simultaneously is a very good place to start (as for my understanding, it's *almost* simultaneous but slightly offset). Is this more of advanced timing technique or should I question this current understanding?
The plant needs to happen before the arm starts moving forward. There can still be a tiny bit of backswing left by the time the foot hits.

Not really but there are a couple other considerations to take into effect. For example you can get the disc behind you with good coil but then round.

Practice makes permanent. Trying to break my off arm muscle memory from before. Trying to keep it straight and just wave, why? It drops my lead hip and it's easy and to me simplifies the coil. But what I call the chicken wing with my back hand is one die hard MF

Technical note - we bend/hinge from the hip joint, not the waist/belt.
Your concern is people trying to arc their back in a weird way, right?
@@OverthrowDiscGolfjust bent via waist/belt and realized some of the attempted hyzer throws I’ve done is from that and not bending exclusively from the hip joint while keeping my waist/belt taunt.
No clue how often this can help but definitely something that clicked in my brain!! 😂😅
