    This was great! And nice commitment on the infinite x-step, lol! I like the drill of pausing/holding on the back leg with the plant leg in the air. I have a tendency to start my coil as soon as my back leg gets down (which I think is too early) rather than after getting my plant leg off the ground, so hopefully this will help. Thanks for all your work on here!

    Thank you, Josh, for pointing out the teeter totter issue of too much stagger. We've noticed it in our forms as beginners but didn't have a clear way to articulate it.

    I know all this, and have for a while. I still can't do it 😂. Having said that, this is the most comprehensive explanation I have seen so far of something that I also feel is the number one problem with most amateur and intermediate players.

    I wanted to stand up and applaud when you mention how different people have feet that can point out or in. I struggle with out-toeing and I am always wondering how much that is messing up my form.

    I had the mechanics down, could not understand why it always felt so awkward even tho the form was right. Thank you so much for teaching the rhythm to the throw. Can’t wait to try and apply this during field work

    Nice video! I like the idea of a stagger creating space for the x-step. My problem is when I create that stagger with the right leg (brace leg), that leg wants to swing to the brace position, kind of like I'm swinging my hip open. I think that creates some timing and balance issues and ultimately is not a good transfer of power into the brace leg. Workin' on it!

    Holy crap man. Ever since I got injured last year I have been struggling with regaining 40 ft of distance I lost somehow in my form. Watched this vid randomly and practiced down the hall at work. Then playing last night threw hole high on 2 holes 340/350 ft with no effort. I think the key point here is that little delay 1,2....3 which changes the timing.

    Simon is very horizontal. But I have seen a old video from his early twenties where he's throwing an absolute bomb Simon line. He got very tall on his left foot during the x step.
    It's interesting he would approach his brace both ways. I'm curious, for Simon, if the speed of his run up makes a difference. In the video I am referring to he did a full speed run up. We don't often see him do that anymore. Curious if the vertical approach is reserved for fast run ups for him. And why.

      Yep. My buddy John did an early versus late form version of Simon Lizotte. It is very common for players to start more vertical and then switch later. The vertical version seems to be a bit more rhythmic and easier to get power initially.

    When you were making sounds for the x-step rhythm, the humming for the correct rhythm made me think of the cheese tax song on tik-tok.

    Feet flaring out is another issue with imbalances in the persons muscularity . Either super tight hips or glutes and if not fixed will get hurt eventually .

    I’ve plateaued at 400-415ft for over 2 years. Not sure 500 is in the cards for me due to meniscus tear and terrible hip flexibility.

    What ive noticed i do is when i take the last step, i reach back at the same time, but ive noticed other people having the arm already stretched out when they take the last, is this something i should change? and i have been trying walk from/around the disc and reaching back as i do now, getting more distance now but i still think first thing i said is something i should do

      The arm stretches in the backswing on the final step. Check out coil video for that timing instruction

    If the cadence of both final steps is the same, does that mean the more linear glide/Simon step has to be longer and/or slower than the up/down/Philo version, so as to be able to land at the same time (ie in the right cadence)? I am just thinking about implications with range of motion of hips and mid-back: shorter steps with a shorter/tighter mid-back coil, since you could mess up timing if you took a long step and ran out of coil before your foot gets down.

      I have no clue. I’m sure there are factors regarding body proportion and such. I’d keep it simple and just look at the timing pieces. If you hit them then you’re probably good. Then make it flow

      If your elbow hurts that’s not a stretch or strengthening thing. That probably needs rest. And watch the video we put out about “your lead arm questions answered”

    I could use some advice on pulling through. I’m pulling slightly down then as I come through it puts the nose angel slightly upward. Do you have a video addressing that?

    Thanks Josh.. I have horrible balance and I can probably only get 5 seconds of balance before I start tipping. Any pointers for this and how long do you think I should be able to balance on 1 foot?

      Unsure on that one. I’d recommend checking out some balance and stability stuff from a channel or in person trainer

      Balance on a foot until it is boring to do so for 1-2 minutes (depending on how hard you want to push yourself). Then do it with your arms wrapped around you. Then close your eyes. Then turn your head side to side. Each step you take away a major balance control and force your core and leg stabilizer muscles to pick up the slack.

      @@ciromassa7322 I mean, balance for at least 1 to 2 minutes, if you can do that without falling at all, do it with your arms wrapped around you until you can balance for 1-2 minutes without falling, then the same with your eyes closed. Do at least once a day, every day, on each foot.

    So for the more well versed DG players out there, I got a question that doesn't pertain to this video that I just can't seem to find info on anywhere.
    What is the name of a throw, where you take almost a grenade/thumber kind of grip, but keep the disc right side up, and throw back hand horizontally so your under side of the forearm is leading rather than the backside? I gotta believe there is a name for it but can't find it anywhere.
    For me This is great for if I have a little distance then an obstacle is in the way. Rather than looping around the obstacle when I throw this way I can get the disc to go out about 50-150 ft. while slightly climbing it then suddenly pops way up for another 10-20. ft then comes down kinda grenade esque but it turns into a roller nearly every time giving even more distance.

    Former power lifter and big legs in general here:
    I feel like I have no space to cross my left leg behind my right. It sounds like a joke (but it’s not): my thighs are too dang thick and my legs bump into each other. I can’t create enough space to get that left knee much past “in line” with my right one. Advice for us big boned folk?

      @@OverthrowDiscGolf yes, doing so is far more comfortable than “slower” or more “grounded” run ups, if that makes sense. Like I could never x step like eagle or Simon. When the timing is right, my throws feel far better this way and I feel positioned to use much more of my lower body. The timing is just a bit tougher :)

    I hop on one foot in a 6 foot leap, then hold my nuts with my left hand, clench that hand tight, scream for victory and then do a 360 landing. Its easier

    If you’re watching this you’re not playing frisbee golf, watching a CZcams video about disc golf is never going to be playing disc golf.
    This is the best content on the tube but all this fluff is mushrooming up waiting to collapse

    My simple tip: 1.slow down (duh)
    2. Focus on pushing with the back leg
    3. WHILE your back leg is firing, do the reachback. Not before, not after.
    Getting the timing right will take time, you are trying to do an explosive movement forward while turning your upper body away WHILE staying balanced.
    Doing it from a sneaking speed is hard, speeding up the run up even more so.
    Once the muscle memory is built overshooting simple midrange and fairway throws will become a reality and you must consider reducing reach back or x-step
