- AMD's Radeon RX 6000 Series doesn't have the best track record for out-of-box Linux support. Is the new RX 6600 any better? I test 5 distros to bring you that answer! (Pop OS 21.10 Beta, Ubuntu 21.10, openSuse Tumbleweed, Fedora 35 Beta, Garuda Gaming Edition)

#Linux #AMD #Gaming - Věda a technologie
Regarding your comments: I am not deleting them! The blame for that falls on CZcams, as other creators will confirm. I'm so sorry this is happening, and frustrated that CZcams is inexplicably moderating the discussions here.
Do the newly released RX 6500 XT please.
Yess, just works after the release! Thank u AMD, Distro maintainers and Valve to make Linux gaming on cutting edge hardware possible!! Things are looking really good for Linux!
Every year: adjusted for inflation
2020-2022: *adjusted for reality*
I'm laughing (and crying) so hard right now!
@@LinuxForEveryone we're all crying, Jason. We're all crying.
Even my wallet hasn't stopped crying ever since I bought a 3090.
@@galgrunfeld9954 Mine felt bad just getting the RX 6600.
Paying over an extra £100 for a mid-range card just outright fucking slapped.
But with an R7 5800x and a PCIe 4 Mobo, it just seemed a better idea than paying £800 for an RTX 3060 ti.
Thanks for the review! I'm hoping to snag one of these if I can find one at retail (yeah, right).
I like how you looked at a handful of distros for the test, but that was a missed opportunity to test and compare benchmarks of the same game on each. Thar would have been really nice to see.
thank you for the video 🙏🏻
the question is not "will it linux?" but "will it wallet?"
I belive hardware accelerated video compression is still a problem under linux. (It was for me at least)
So I would love to hear your thoughts on the state of video recording and streaming under linux.
Noted, Stefan, and I believe that's a great thing to look into.
This is real exciting stuff!
Great that many distros were tested, but would have been interesting to compare game with game to see if there were any FPS lift across them
That seems like good content for a standalone video. And this is something I've always been curious about!
@@LinuxForEveryone I think it would be good to compare ones that are "gaming" distros, ones that are "productivity" and ones that are more aimed at the server side of things.
I feel that there wouldn't be a huge difference between them, but reckon an interesting journey all the same
Psychonauts 2 is a fabulous game and very forgiving game even on older hardware - I had it on medium settings and was getting about 50fps on a gtx960 (proprietary drivers)
Hey man, great video, even if I'm just halfway into the video by the time I comment this xD
Just wanted to ask, is Garuda Linux also good for video editing, music production, and Drawing with a display graphic tablet? Thank you.
Well, these are very broad questions that are tough to answer. Or at least, the answers are subjective. Is it good for music production and video editing? Absolutely, depending on the software. I recommend Kdenlive and Bitwig, respectively.
Are those programs good compared to things like Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro? Nope :D
Sadly I don't have know about graphics tablet compatibility. You might want to seek out a dedicated forum for that. It's probably pretty decent, but I'm hesitant to give an answer.
@@LinuxForEveryone Noted. Thank you for answering!
Oh, and one more question, can I use DaVinci Resolve? Or should I use an Ubuntu based distro (Like Mint)?
@@LinuxForEveryone ok, I'm sorry, one more thing.
Can I dual boot 2 or 3 linux Distros? Like one I use a MintOS for daily use, and I change to CentOS when I'm doing works?
I'm facing problems with fan in Dell G5 5505 SE laptop (Ryzen 5 with RX5600M) , tested with debian 11, ubuntu, fedora 34 , the fans won't start
I'm going to buy this card for fedora 37
when your intro starts, i jump 2 meters in the air becauce its very loud, but after that i liked the video!
Thanks for the feedback on this. I use Auphonic to normalize and level all the audio across the board, but I'll manually dial it down a few decibels.
Computer stores in my area are selling this card at twice the MSRP and it's still sold out.
Ugh, when will this end?
Would be good to also have the same game but running in different distros to see if things change but I dont it may be redundant since linux is linux, I may be wrong here too.
Hello.
Can someone put some links about how to install Ati Radeon RX 6600M on linux? Specially on Ubuntu.
Thanks
That's good!
@Linux For Everyone what do you think about fedora for gaming ?
Funny you should ask! Right now I'm testing F35, F36 and the Nobara spin (from Glorious Eggroll) as part of a brand new Linux Gaming Report series. Maybe too early for to draw a conclusion, but stay tuned.
@@LinuxForEveryone already using fedora on my laptop for more than half a year and really enjoying it . It's simple to use , much more up to date than ubuntu based distros and at least for me perfectly stable that manjaro and garuda couldn't deliver for me .
Any chance of a Will It Linux video with a 3060 ti? Open and Proprietary drivera would be cool to see
Probably not, Michael. I simply can't afford to buy one at the prices we're seeing now. (And they're even worse in Croatia)
@@LinuxForEveryone thanks for the reply! Didn't realise you were based in Croatia :O. Hopefully things improve over there with pricing. The 3060 ti is starting to get reasonable here in the UK so there's hope
@@Driftwood420 that's great to hear! I can't wait until i can start covering DIY builds again.
Pleasant Linux performance here with Ubuntu 21.10. Also with Lutris I can play Rocket League with high details and awesome performance.
Working at home with Ubuntu is perfect with 3440x1440 34" wide screen and sharp image at 144hz, but be carefull to DP cable quality to avoid glitches.
No need to install AMD drivers, it works out-of-the-box with opensource AMD drivers in the kernel.
I think it'is one of the best middle performance VGA from AMD for Linux, I've Sapphire dual fans compact version.
Hello.
Does anyone know how to install Ati Radeon RX 6600M driver on linux? On AMD official site I've found only windows 10 and 11 driver for this.
Its baked in with Mesa
@@coleshores, thanks for the answer. Can you elaborate in more details regarding your answer?
You just install the OS and it has the kernel driver and Mesa drivers. I’d use POP OS because it keeps those updated
Honestly, over high settings, ftmp, unless you have a 32"+ 4k monitor, you're not really going to see much of a difference other than a tanked frame rate. There's a lot of tweaking that can be done in most games to dramatically improve framerate without giving any appreciable difference in fidelity unless you want to break it down and compare frame by frame.
If that's your fun. Go for it. But me? I'm gonna take a few minutes to tweak the settings down a hair, and enjoy framerate pinned high enough that I don't care what it is.
This also needs a re-do. From what I saw on phoronix, they've made some strides in the latest drivers in just a few months.
Will it Open cl though?
Bro make sure you have command gamemode run to get 10 % increased fps
Qty on hand at local computer store: -243
Oof 😣
Well, it's hard to consider that a improvement in new hardware enablement. The GPU might seem brand new, but actually it isn't. That's pretty much the same card as the whole RDNA2 family, but with lowered specs.
I'm perfectly OK with that though, since I have a smaller power supply and can't run the other cards of the same family.
why, just why different game on every distro ? ??
So now... Will it davinci resolve ?
Last time I tried amd, I needed a special program to keep the fans from running at 100 all the time. Is this still an issue?
Yeah it Linux. It Linux reaaaallll good.
I don't think I've seen any good and worthwhile AAA games since 2011 to make me even think about that question - let alone an answer to it.
Every game clip you showed had stuttering in it.
and what about opencl, in my case still is not working for mining due open cl, by using those distros
The RX 6600 will simply make Tails refuse to boot.
No workaround either.
Unfortunately it's about $200 overpriced...
Not really. It's just about as performant as the RX 5700 and MORE power efficient, and launched for about $20 less. Admittedly, GPUs across the board are more expensive than they used to be though :(
