      More literally, "What's happening?", which for Mexicans has shifted to "¿Qué pasó?", "What happened?"
      I've no idea why since my family is Argentine, but I've known a lot of Mexicans and they say it very frequently. So likely, any time someone walked in the house or started a phone call, the bird would have heard, "¿Qué pasó?"

    As someone that speaks cantonese, first of all, it's not that any of these names MEAN what they're saying, they just sound like it. It's like a translation, like Jessie = bird shit, it's more like the words for bird shit in cantonese sound very similar to Jessie, or the word for carrot sounds like Robert (it doesn't but i get to that later).
    Also, ear shit: that's what we call ear wax in cantonese. like a lot of chinese is made of compound words, it's combining multiple words together to mean something else, so ear wax, is literally the words EAR and SHIT. Just like how boogers in cantonese is literally NOSE SHIT.
    Also no artistic licence with Ryan, it woulds like "bad guy" in cantonese - it would be pronouced kind of like ... waai (or why) -yun.
    For Robert = carrot, i think they mean daikon radish/turnip, not carrot. In cantonese a carrot is literally "red daikon radish", which would be 3 syllables, but daikon radish is probably closer. Though, even then, it's a bit of a stretch ... it's pronounced ... lo-bak ... which is like ... sort of close to Robert.

    About the parrot speaking spanish: The bird probably flew into a spanish-speaking neighborhood as opposed to a restaurant. America still has segregated neighborhoods to an extent, there’s very little residential mixing of ethnic groups (and even less likely that a british immigrant was living around ethnic minorities]

    • @SepticFuddy
      @SepticFuddy Před 2 lety

      This may be true in certain places (and California definitely has them), but I feel the need to leave a note that the whole country is not that way and there is indeed plenty of mixing throughout most of it. Different regions of a city may be very mixed or very segregated even. I grew up north of Dallas and we had tons of Chinese, Indians, Koreans and Pakistanis (among other, smaller groups) all in the same upper-middle class neighborhoods with whites (of all sorts) and going to the same schools. Most parts of the Dallas area have plenty of Mexicans, Indians and whites all in the same areas. But then you go to the south side of Dallas and you find more segregated neighborhoods, either Mexican or not. Certain parts of downtown (like "Deep Ellum", named after how the locals pronounced "Elm Street") are historically black as well.
