    Looking at her here no one would ever expect how famous she'd grow to be in Sweden. So youthful, so innocent. Out of her 3 ESC participations this one is definitely my favourite.

    Carola Haggquist finished in the top 5 a stunning 3 times. So when Johnny Logan is Mr. Songcontest, she really is Mrs. Songcontest !

      @@ufuksnmez98 Linda Martin's average placing is 1,5. There are only four artists who have finished in top 2 twice, and they are Lys Assia, Linda Martin, Elisabeth Andreassen and Johnny Logan.

    For me, this is a very catchy song just perfect for Eurovision Song Contest, and it has a great music quality. Carola is unique; my favorite artist at this song contest.

    The song may have inspired one of ABBA's comeback songs, "Don't shut me down", especially the melody in the chorus. Maybe Framling was itself inspired by an ABBA song in the first place, but either way both songs are gems .

    Autant je n'ai pas aimé la chanson qu'elle a interprétée en 1991 et avec laquelle, hélas, elle a gagné au détriment d'Amina avec sa superbe chanson, autant je trouve "Främling" superbe et très bien interprétée. Elle a fini à la troisième place, classement largement mérité.

      @@escLIVEmusic1 Which is fair, but you've never answered the question of how much an orchestra would take out of the budget, how they would learn over forty songs, and how much it would add to rehearsal time in addition to working out the choreography and technical elements of every song. Or where they'd be, since it would probably take a chunk out of the already-limited venue space unless you put them in another building or something.

      I mean, Rendez-vous, I'm Never Giving Up, Främling or Hi, Play-back or Bem Bom, Hajde da ludujemo... If only we had this orchestra quality allowed for the new years... imagine Belgium or Portugal new entries with orchestra, it would be such a hit.

    I am always surprised by the mic misfunction in the first second of the performance. I do not believe it cost her the first place, though, as the same think happened to Sandy Shaw back in 1967.

      There were also technical issues when she gave a winning performance in 1991. Bad luck but ultimately she won so it didn't matter that much. 1 point more for Amina, though, and that would be a different story.

    How come this is an NDR broadcast with Wogan commentary from the BBC in the UK?
    Although I note this switches to stereo when the song starts - is it a mix of two feeds?
    Always impressed by the sound on the 1983 show. I don't know what they did but it has a beautiful punch and warmth to it.

      James Martin On the BBC broadcast, Sir Terry talks across the start of the song by announcing its title on the opening notes, so I’m assuming it cuts to the NDR rebroadcasting of the contest some years later, hence the better quality (ARD was the producer of Eurovision that year). The same thing happens with the Sweet Dreams clip as Sir Terry erroneously says “the UK has won the contest four times, an honour we share with France and Luxembourg”. France had actually won five times. Luxembourg chalked up its fifth win that night, ironically.

    Eigentlich ein ganz gutes ESC Jahr, aber für mich mit der absolut falschen Siegerin. Die absolute Nr 1 war füŕ mich Ofra Haza, keine andere reichte alleine an das Charisma dieser Israelin heran.
