    The early '80s British entries are probably the most exhilarating set of songs ever sent to the ESC. Plus, most of them can be the perfect soundtrack for a sitcom intro

      Totally agree! Everything was perfect, from the singing to the dance routine, the song itself and who would have guessed that it even sounded better with the orchestra who did a fantastic job! Not always an easy task with a dance song (see Gina G's Uh Ah...).

    I kept singing this to myself in school much to the annoyance of those in my class. I was almost 10 and in Primary 5. One day when I was singing it my teacher said “Yes Missy. We know. You never are giving up are you?”

      A catchy number, and cute choreography, yes -- but a bit overproduced and safe, compared to the other entries of the night. It deserved higher than 6th place, yes, but the first, third, and fourth place winners of that night were definitely better (in my opinion).

    Best orchestra ever that year, and one of their best moments of the evening (along with Israel and Belgium). This piece is as pop as it gets, and they sound great on it.

    Such a catchy song, deserved higher placing. 1983's ESC, like 1986's, was stand-out for me, when the ESCs still majored on songs rather than SFX, and orchestras were still live. Many non-UK folk even sang in their own languages!

    1983 has got to be one of the strongest eurovisions ever, literally every song is fantastic. sweet dreams were just that, a sweet dream! carrie, helen, and bobby all sounded great and i loved this song's production. my 2nd of this year behind ms. ofra haza! :)

      Taste ! To me, Ofra Haza for Israel (with the fabulous "Chai" !) was much better than Corinne Hermès who represented Luxembourg. And I say that even if I'm French.

      @@DanTony68 If we talk about colorfulness and expresiveness, then Carola eats them all for dinner. Ofra's chorus is basically tra la la. I enjoyed Belgium's repetitiveness 10 times more than Israeli song.

    My favourite moment of this, I think, is at 2:06 when Bobby McVey, having forgotten to let go of his confetti when he was supposed to, tries to discreetly push it over the front of the stool. Great song though, 1983 was such a great year.

      Bobby McVay was in a reformed Bucks Fizz a few years ago with Mike Nolan, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston. They toured, including this track in their set, plus Making your mind up of course, and recorded a new album as The Fizz, called the f-z of pop, which did quite well. Bobby features on the singles Dancing in the rain, Up for the fight, Amen and Home for my heart. They’d known him for years anyway as he used to go out with their wardrobe girl. He left as he had to keep commuting from his home in Italy for gigs.

    This was UK Entry for the 1983 Eurovision Song Contest which was held in
    Germany & won by Luxembourg,, our song finished in 6th position, it was awarded maximum points by Sweden

    Like most Eurovisions until rather recently, it was not shown in the US live, and only sometimes on tape. The song lives on though; Bobby McVay sings it these days with Cheryl Baker, Jay Aston and Mike Nolan from the UK's 1981 winner, Bucks Fizz, who are now known as The Fizz. Bobby does this here with Carrie Gray (now Grant) and Helen Kray.

    yep, NDR usually repeat some ESC stuff during the ESC season in May. I think the video poster here used the BBC sound for the introduction and then switched to the NDR sound track for the song because it is in stereo. The 1983 contest was completely produced in stereo.

    uhm for me that song fromYugoslavia is really good, and in any other year could be top-3, but in 1983 in my opinion, is a bit less good than the other 4 songs...1983 was a year with a lot of good songs!

    It's a catchy song. The male singer has a good voice.. I'm not that keen on Carrie's voice.

    German station NDR with Terry Wogan commentating. Why is this? Did they re-show the contest again recently?

      Every country got the same TV feed, but had a commentator in their own language either at the site or back home; in this case, Wogan for the BBC.
