    My brother wrote this song. On the night Gina cut all the dresses shorter. Lots of the judges didn't like that. Tbh .all the contestants thought Gina would win. In the end, didn't matter, went on to be a massive hit. My bro is on stage on the keyboards. Great night.

      I hope your brother knows that despite the 8th place what an important moment this was for the contest. The result was a total farce and more or less single-handedly resulted in the televote being introduced the next year.

    If you're wondering what those computers are doing on stage, it's because of the rules that all of the lead instruments used in the song have to be on stage. Since the beat is clearly made in a computer, they had to put them there.

      This song is why the televote exists. It was by far the most popular going into the contest but when it finished 8th everyone kind of told the juries to go f*ck themselves and thus the Eurovision televote was created.

      Thanks, i know in that time i had a cd and this song was on it. I liked the song but i didn't know then that it was a Eurovision song. A discoverd that later on. Yes also in that time we had huge dance hits of our country. Greetings from Belgium.

If we must speak about my country on Eurovision, it's a shame in 2004 we got only 7 points for xandee-one life. Kate Ryan should have been in the final but no juries in that time. We had to wait to 2013 for an up-tempo song to qualify, Roberto with love kills. In 2016 with Laura Tesoro - What's the pressure. We have also Loïc Nottet- Rhythm Inside place 4 and Blanche - City Lights place 4.

    The stories of that night are wild. People walking out of the arena after it became clear Ireland was going win yet again. Gina was the clear favourite, had a song that was already a hit across the continent, yet came in 8th. The EBU knew change was needed and the result saw the birth of the televote age.

      In what way? Because Gina G was born in Australia? By that logic Luxembourg '63 was a warm-up run for Greece entering in '74... "Just A Little Bit" was written by Simon Tauber and Steve Rodway, and was produced by Eternal Records - which makes it about as Australian as an un-sandpapered cricket ball.

(Actually, in a letter from some Canadian minister to Denmark after the recent end of their Whiskey 'War' over Hans Island they jokingly suggested that since they now had a border with Greenland and thus technically with Europe they should join the ESC.       No thanks, a live-orchestra might have worked with such a cheecy and simple pop-song, but it would definietly not work with the complexity of the modern songs we see today + it would only make eurovision SO much more expensive, which no one wants, so i'm guessing it wouldn't work at all..

      @@poertjt2 I guess we are ideological opposites. For me music is a living creature, not a strict and polished product. I love the feeling when I see and hear musicians create something in the momen,t when I go to a concert and feel the raw energy of the moment. And that's supposed to be different from a music video or a track. I naturally like studio music as well, but that belongs on audio files, cds or music videos - not on the stage. On stage the music should be live, otherwise it's not really interesting to watch, I think.

    I’m guessing a combination of stuffy, out of date jury members + her poor vocal performance stopped this from ending in the top 3. No doubt, if a televote had been in place back in 1996 it would have done much better than 8th place!

    Gina G, una de las mejores representantes del Reino Unido de los últimos treinta años en EUROVISION. Su actuación la calificaría de llena de optimismo, energética y con mucho ritmo. Desde luego su vestuario y su coreografia no pasaron inadvertidos.

      Si vestido y baile fue de lo mejor ..el.jurqdi se molestó por cortar el.vestido y eso lo condenó..se entiende ya que ella es pequeña..y el.vestido no se hacía tributo al baile que ella característico en ella

      The rules at the time required every instrument used on the backing track to appear on stage/in the orchestra. As the song uses computer generated sound, the computers had to appear on stage - even if they are just props.
