A young Jewish lady on a German stage four decades after the Holocaust singing about how she and her people are still alive. Beautiful.
The most melodic flipping of a middle finger ever.

The real spirit of the Israeli nation is in that song
The spirit of stealing other people's land, Apartheid and genocide. Good spirit. The good European values.

An amazing song, a timeless performance that brought the house down. This absolutely should've won, and it was so anticlimactic that it only finished 6 points shy of doing so.
Consider the fact that Turkey didn't award any points to Israel in all the 80's and the only country to do so while giving Luxembourg 12 points - i would say this won.
nevertheless the song is a victory of it self to Israel and they Jewish people singing the Israel is alive in the very same spot that 50 years earlier the Nazi party raised to power that annihilated the Jews was and 11 years earlier 11 of the participants to the Olympic games in Munich from Israel was murdered.
Greatest Eurovision of all time. I've never forgiven Cyprus and Turkey, nor Luxembourg for winning. I'm neither Israeli or even Jewish, but I bear a grudge 😂

Listen my friends
I’m still alive!
And my eyes still look upon the light
I have many thorns but also flowers
There are many years a head of me
Let me just ask and pray
Hope has not been lost!
A psalm keeps going
From one generation to anther
Like a fountain
Of eternity
Let me ask and pray
Hope has not been lost! (In Hebrew: it is good that hope was not lost).
Chai Chai Chai (in Hebrew “alive”)
Yes I’m still alive
That is the song
That grandpa has yesterday sung to dad
And today, I am still alive
I’m am still alive alive alive
The people of Israel are still alive
That is the song that grandpa has yesterday sung to dad
And today I am ...
My days are busy and so are my nights
I can see ahead of me the pillar of fire rising still
I will sing until eternity
I will spread my hands
To my friends across the sea
I shall ask and pray
Hope has not been lost!

This song and its meaning makes me burst into tears nearly every time I listen to it
I've read the translation but I still don't understand, could you tell me the meaning.
@@_.belladonna_ it’s basically about how Jewish people (and Israeli’s) are the targets of constant hate from around the world. But this song is saying that even though there’s a lot of problems she (Jewish people) are alive and well
@@_.belladonna_ More precisely, the competition that year(1983) was held in Munich, Germany, and it's a sort of a cheerful "up yours" to the Germans, saying the Jewish people are still alive and not going anywhere, the yellow clothing's symbolizes the yellow patch the Jews were forced to wear during the holocaust.
I completedly agree. I cannot believe that she died so young!

Як на мене, найкращий виступ Ізраїлю на Євробаченні! Тільки дуже шкода, що виконавиці давно немає серед живих... R.I.P. Ofra Haza
38 years after the Nazis tried to exterminate the Jewish people on earth, Ofra Haza stood on the Eurovision stage in Munich, Germany, along with 5 other escorts dressed in yellow, a memorial to the yellow badge - and a total of 6 on stage, a memorial to the 6 million Jews who died in the Holocaust , And sang the words of Ehud Manor "Live, live, live, yes, I am still alive" to the German people and to the whole world.
I think this is one of the craziest events, not in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, not in the history of the Jewish people, in the history of all mankind. When they tried to destroy him, he stood on a stage in the country that tried to destroy him, and sang to him, in free words, "Zubi on you and on your face, I'm still alive, youre plan did not go, a 'final' solution, you will make pickles, this is the song Grandpa sang to Dad yesterday, And now I, here, live, there is no Your Pace. '
Whenever I think that something is impossible, that something can not be done, that there is no hope, I remember this amazing moment, and realize that not only are we a strong people, and not only that we, as my father says, "do not remember, but also do not forget", we have Even the best sense of humor in history, and that the best revenge, is served cold - and in poetry

Well said! This performance was also held in a stadium originally built for the Munich Olympics 11 years earlier, where a group of Israeli athletes and coaches were kidnapped and murdered. This song was so powerful.

LOVE IT. LOVE OFRA HAZA
Catchy! They kept on with the same formula as the two wins in the 70s. This lady came from a poor background to be a national icon & sadly passed away in 2000 at just 42 and her husband took his own life one year later.
RIP.
I think the husband also died of the same disease
He died of heroin use, not suicide and not AIDS. Although that probably would have killed him if the drugs hadn't.

Apart from the obvious meaning of Jewish people representing their young independent state despite the Nazi genocide, saying, not only you didn't annihilate all of us, you also didn't break my spirit or hope. There's also another sad and less aggrandized meaning; After the holocaust there was the radio and newspaper "Section of Seeking Relatives." A broadcaster or journal ads would name the surviving advertee, his contact and whereabout, and whom they seek 😢 Survivers in Israel would put the radio on listen with an iota of faith, hoping maybe their siblings or any relatives survived the Nazi death camps against all odds and are looking for them. A lot of families reunite that way. A lot didn't. The lyrics are also somewhat reminiscing of the Section of Seeking Relatives radio hour.
Good 😸 músic and here in Brazil we love hebrew songs.

I think this year there could have been two winners. It was very difficult to choose between two excellent songs: that of Israel and that of Luxembourg which finally won.
I didn't know Avi Toledano, who took part for Israel in 1982, created the music

escLIVEmusic1, what's your take on why this orchestra were particularly outstanding (and do you have a year where you think they were better?). I think this song is possibly the finest moment by any orchestra in the contest's history.
I'm going to jump in here. I'm not sure what ARD did with the sound mix, but there's such a lovely, warm "punch" to the sound mix. But the Dieter Reith Orchestra absolutely lift the roof off of every song in the contest in 1983.
