Yes, I'm in love with this fairytale!
Each Time norway sent a violon in Eurovision it wins
Yes, this is exactly what they should do all years
Kit- Kat they deserved to win in 2006 too!!!
deserved to win in 93 and 05
No, 1985 they didn't use a violin
Dead25m they didnt say everything time they have won it has been with a violin. They said everytime they have used a violin they have won
Best song Eurovision😢
I remember when I was 12 years old and cheered for this entry despite my parents saying that something so different didn't stand a chance to win Eurovision. It was such a euphoric feeling when they got their final 12 points and won."
Yes well, history proved that "different" is in fact the leading factor when it comes to picking up euro favorites
23 years later and this is still the most beautifull Eurovision winner ever.
Thanks everybody for all the likes. The most I have ever gotten. It is still btw the most beautifull song that has ever won eurovision. Even after 26 years.
bopp9 😂
True!

Don’t forget euphoria tho

Still the best
26 years have passed and this is still the best Eurovison song....
And always will be the best
ABBA ?
VIOLinA
Is not 🤣🤣🤣
It's fantastic. It's my #2 all-time favorite song.
Everybody is commenting on the violin part which is incredible, but I’d also love to praise the vocalist part - her voice is so clear, simply beautiful 😍
In another video version - from Eurovision - there is a British Soprano choir singer who does the vocals. She is just as good, if not a bit better.
I am just dissapointed about the amount of singing like I really wonder if to call it a song or just a melody
Her name is Gunnhild Tvinnerheim
@@user-ol2pk9kz7o you should call this a piece because it is classical music. The vocalist is actually an opera singer who was classical trained. The violist and the pianist also had classical music background.
I always thought this is a song from "Lord of the Rings" and now I see it actually won Eurovision.
Hell, people in 1995 really had music taste!!!
Fun fact: a remastered version of this song was used in the first "Shrek"

Best Eurovision song ever.......
+Harry Mimigiannis Absolutely agree with you.
+Harry Mimigiannis you're absolutelyr right :)
Class.
Yeah! And compare this with the winners of ESC in the last 10 years. This was the time when Eurovision really meant something!
I agree with you, ani780!
When I first watched Shrek as a 5 years old, a tune Princess Fiona sung in the night solemnly was planted in my brain. The tune was so beautiful and it had stuck with me after all these years. I've very very seldom rewatched Shrek, but I still remember it clearly. It took me 2 seconds in that '1950-2019 all eurovision winners' video to recognise the original song of that tune.
Was too good for 5-year-old me, still too good for 24-year-old me.
the feelings of finally found the song title is the best feeling ever! the melody we heard during younger days that is so captivating but too bad it just stuck in our mind without any clue how to find them.. happens to me with "song from a secret garden".. i am so lucky youtube algorithm brought me to that song.. it feels like you found your long lost treasure.. have a nice day ☺️
You know... I searched for 'fairytale' on CZcams thinking of Shrek's fairytale but I found Rybak's fairytale; I liked it so much that I listened to several performances and in one of them I heard what I thought was Shrek's fairytale, and I said oh what a cool reference, since both songs are named the same. Then in the comments they said it was this song and he played that fragment because they're both Norwegian I think.
Anyway, this song is very beautiful, thank god I found it.
Woa, I just came here from that Eurovision winners video because I immediately recognized the tune as well. Didn't connect it to Shrek until I read this!
Me too
They didn't credit this in Shrek though, will still bugs me. Its too similar not to credit it
Anyone here in 2024 and listening to this masterpiece!

@Jonathan Turner Well, what can one say about Ireland and the Irish??? Absolutely lovely country and people! Like us, I dare say. 😂 Greetings from Portugal.
I think Celtic and Nordic generally go well together.
@@alvinmjensen irish ≠ celtic
@@imwinningthisone7613 Yes, Irish and Scottish = celtic
@@alvinmjensen not necessarily. It's possible, but Celtic isn't something from the British isles.
In fact, the celts came from all over europe, this includes southern and northern Europe. However, they were mostly based around central europe (Northern Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Southern Germany, Belgium, France).
This song, sorry, masterpiece, should be broadcasted to space.....just in case some other civilizations out there listening of us Humans from Earth. A song is not just lyrics, let every instrument sing!
I remember that this song was almost disqualified because of the lack of lyrics
I really miss the time when Eurovision had a live
I'm sure the guy from Portugal 2017 would love this Norwegian entry.
Original piece doesn't even have lyrics, they were forced to put those few lines not to be disqualufied.
@@Schnipp08 I can tell you we loved it here in Portugal. Still do to this day.
@@Schnipp08 Portugal 2017 sounded more like Eurovision entries from the 1950's.
The lack of singing was a big thing, i remember
A litle fun fact. the guy on the synth (Rolf Løvland) wrote this. he also wrote the world hit: You raise me up. He even wrote Norway,s win in ESC 1985 ( la det svinge ) with Bobbysocks
In other words: a genius
He wrote the music. Brendam Graham an irish lyricist wrote the lyrics to You Raise Me Up.
And another little fun fact, the violinist playing on Nocturn is irish violinist Fionnula Mc Sweeny.

The best moment in the history of the Eurovision that will never come back
Why do you say it will never come back? You want to make this one more magical by making such a false believe a go? There’s quite big chance something like this will win Eurovision again. Moody songs are always high ranked.
Portugal won last year with a jazz ballad and is very moody but I'm glad many different musical genres can shine in this competition!
Daniel Bar indeed!
Portugal won because their singer wore pro refugees shirt and had? heart problem.
Daniel Bar that's right. Remember Alexander Rybak 2009.He wins with his violin

Best song ever from Eurovision , will be with me forever , thanks Norway for this masterpiece ! Greetings from Portugal
I echo that from Lagos Portugal as well 🙏🙏🙏
That was when countries still send their best because it was a prestige competition. That was until it was usurp by EU-project and corrupted to glorify the potential new EU member-states, trying to give the winning positions to countries not based on merits or quality of performance, but because EU politicians needed a favorable sentiment on countries they were and wanted to add to the EU. Now even my country sends basically vague nobodies and I haven't seen a Eurovision since maybe early 2000's coz I stopped caring when politics got involved and the entire festival corrupted.
This is undoubtedly the best Eurovision song ever
This song is too good for eurovision

It's the best song of the whole eurovision history. Greetings from Belgium. We almost won also with such a special song, Sanomi. But Turkey won that year.
So very true, beautiful music, beautiful country, beautiful people, sending love from England
Marina Ann: the lyrics are:
La dagen få
Sin hvile nå
Og natten vil våke for den
Nocturne
Selv mörket må
En gang forgå
Så natten kan föde en dag
In English:
Let the day get its rest now
And the night will guard in its place
Nocturne
Even the darkness must disappear sometime
So the night can give birth to a day
This song has always been too good for Eurovision, probably even more so now.
The best song in all of Eurovision. A daring, original, and magical composition. Broke the mold of people's preconceptions about Eurovision, and it still gives me goosebumps. Thank you, Norway! 12 points from the USA.
im curious after the release of the !new eurovision movie, is the average american familiar with the ESC?
Dan Cooper I think it’s definitely gotten the ball rolling! It’s the number one film on Netflix in the USA so people are bound to be more curious about the contest itself now. I’ll certainly be happy if more of my countrymen jump on the bandwagon (but we shouldn’t compete, obviously).
@@SuperJNG18 Interesting, thanks for the quick response :)
Im still crying at its beauty .it transcends Eurovision 😥❤️
Unbelievable .... the text of this song has only 25 words. If the world of magic existed then this song would be a portal to it. Music unbelievably influences the imagination and even breaks away from reality, capturing all the senses of the listener. Amazingly beautiful ...
And yet you can make a great song out of it.
Did U know that Sweden get there rights by the EBU back then
Sweden was verry mad about the Entry from Norway
Becouse it was more Instrument then singing !
Now in this days its forbidden to do this on the Eurovision
Originally it was intended that this song had no lyrics :)

But Satellite?
Are ya kidding me?
There have been plenty of bad and undeserving winners, but Satellite was just waaay overrated and pretty shit in general.
Most people would say that the 2nd song from Manga should have won and I agree, but imo Satellite shouldn't even have came top 3. Even though most of the other songs were bad too that year.

Love how Eurovision before the 2000s was about good quality music and sound and after the 2000s it turned into “which dance song will make you vibe more in the club”😅
and how many dance songs had won? Actually, ballads become a kind of "syndrome" of eurovision
And there's nothing wrong with that. Ballads are still doing good and there's nothing wrong with uplifting, party-like entries. Actually, most of these type of entries are done well.
it are not even dance songs, it's now just a gay parade
You know this song is an exception right? Most eurovision music over the years has been whatever was considered club music at the time.

Was this melody in Shrek?
I thought that too. The Shrek song is called Fairytale.
According to wikipedia Fairytale was a re-worked cover version of Nocturne, but they failed to credit the original.
Well to be honest Fairytale has pretty different progression except for the first couple of bars, which repeats just like in this piece though. But the rest of the piece sounds quite different, to me at least. I wouldn't exactly call that a cover of this. Both are beautiful of course!
So they took the music from one Norwegian win and the song title from another Norwegian win
