- "Främling", var den då 16-åriga Carola Häggkvists genombrottslåt och vid Eurovision Song Contest 1983 i München, i det dåvarande Västtyskland, placerade bidraget sig på en tredjeplats, med Anders Ekdahl som dirigent. Uppskattningsvis såg över 80 % av Sveriges befolkning programmet. Mikrofonen krånglade när hon kom upp på scenen, vilket gjorde att första tonen försvann. Som bäst fick bidraget 12 poäng av Norge och Västtyskland och låg som bäst till endast en poäng efter ledaren efter tredje och sjätte röstningsomgången. Till sist hade Sverige fått ihop 126 poäng, som gav en tredje plats. Nästan alla andra länder gav åtminstone en poäng till Sverige, bara vinnarlandet Luxemburg gav inga poäng alls.

How nice to come to come across this video, remember that day very well watching the Eurovision festival almost 40 years ago, when Carola sang a friend blurted out that she was going to cry. Carola was only sixteen and already such a great artist.

@@giorgosfylaktou2610 The rule is minimum 16 years, but it only came into effect in 1990. That's because in 1989, there were two performers who were 11 & 12, from France and Israel I believe :)

Hallo from the Czechia! Not only ABBA is legend of the sweden (Svenska) POP muzic! I love this song from the Carola, but she had more hits. Another legends are Lili Babs, Secret Service, Erasure, and from the Eurovision 1998 winner Charlotta Nilsen.

Carola was one of the best Singer of the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson/Eurovision Song Contest in the Year 1983.
I think that the Title of the Song was better than the "Winner-Song" of Corinne Hermes.
The English Version of Carolas Song was very good and she had an powerful and amazing Voice.
I find that Carola is an attractive, beautiful and nice women.
She had an great Talent and her Performance was unbelieveable pretty and nice.

she won in swedish the second time she competed in ESC, that just shows that it was not the language that was the problem but that they simply liked another song better that year she sung first time and liked her the most the year she won
Love that real orchestras was a thing back then. The mic being off for the first 4 bars tells that you had to be able to sing back then.

Rolling back the years to the time when countries sang in their own language. Unlike nowadays when most entries jump on the English bandwagon. Only UK, Ireland and Malta used to regularly sing in English back then. Now all the songs sound the same 😐😐
Agree, hopefully, this will change soon. They should bring back the rule, almost half the song a country sends should be in its original language
If all the songs sound the same just because they are performed in English I am afraid you need to see a neurologist or an ear specialist... French singers always sing in French, I guess all the singers from France sound always the same and that's why they are hardly even in the top 10, right ?... FFS
Sure many nations do english pop but not all of them, a fair bit of nations chose to sing in their native language such as Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, sometimes Finland and Iceland. I think that both the the english songs and songs in the native languages are good and no the english songs do not all sound the same. I see alot of different type of artists with their own identiy put into their song, I think that we need to appriciate them for what they give even when it's not exactly what you personally like.
