How beautiful the girls were, no flesh on show, they were dressed in the fashion of the time and looked lovely. All girls were wearing these dresses, my gran made me the blue one. We took a photo of it, got it developed and she worked from that by using pins and newspaper to make the template. Looked fab when finished.

A historical note for interest This contest used a short-lived voting system, used 1971/2/3, where 2 jurors from each country gave each song a mark of 1-5, (marks out of 10), so it was *NOT* possible to award 12 points - the 12,10,8-1 points were first used in 1975 In 1974, a one juror one vote system was used - for the last time (abba won with 24 votes)

If it had been up to me in 1972, the New Seekers absolutely would have won. I think it was way ahead of the main competition. The winners in 1971, 1972 & 1973 were a bit samey -> one female performer on the stage singing in French (there was a voting block in existence and a tested formula to adhere to).....

Personally i would go for the Italian winner (insieme) in 1990 as best eurovision song .....but 'Beg, Steal or Borrow' was certainly a great song, and was very unlucky to finish 2nd. The German runner up in 1985 .. 'Fur Alle by Wind ... was also really unlucky, and, in my opinion was a song worthy of winning the competition .... it finished marginally ahead of an oddly named Swedish entry called 'Bra Vibrationer'!

I was an avid NS fan back in the day (not far off 50 years back - which is truly scary!) but I do however think the right song won in the end that year. The NS harmonies were perfect though and no crazy stage effects were needed, all Eurovision ever required were great, proper, songs performed by likewise artists!!
Apparently Europe was getting nowty about Gibraltar 🇬🇮 that year. There were allegations this swayed the vote. Don't know if there's any truth to this story, just something I heard in a documentary about 1972.
