    The first part of a much anticipated test is now a fact! The AKK X2 Ultimate Vtx really impresses with the promise of a 1200mW output from its tiny 6 gram form factor, and my tests have shown that in addition to heat, thi Vtx really does output its signal at a higher power, giving a much cleaner image at a greater distance! Still more tests need to be done, but this one is looking promising, and seems like yet another great AKK product. I've been happy with their X1P Vtx on my Clouds up until now, I hope the X2 Ultimate will continue to serve me well... from FAR away! :D

    I just love the type of videos you do! Keep up the great work! I love the quality of every Video and that you do real test. You push the equipment to its limit, wich is the only way really test long range gear.

      Thanks mate, much appreciated! Sadly these long range FPV items cannot be tested otherwise... or actually... gladly, they cannot be tested otherwise. ;) That way I get to go out and fly far! You can do math all day long, but at the end what really matters is the result in the real world! I just hope I don't lose the Clouds in the process... but then I have a few other planes that could take its place... :D

    THIS is what I need! I'm currently flying my homebuilt V-Tail Pusher (on my channel) with the L9R! but with the TS5828 600mW, I'm only getting about 4km range because the video starts to be junk while the Radio signal is still 90-100% at 4km... I had the urge to go 1.3 on all my Long Range (L9R) aircrafts but your video just said: ''Don't worry, this is exactly what you need!''.
    Thank you so much man!

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 3 lety

      Well... 600mW... I've been out to over 20kms on that much power! Directional antennas and an antenna tracker do help increase that range, without increasing the power!

    Great review again, and that mystery problem you encountered was identical to mine, running two Circular Wireless helicals pointing 45 degrees apart, it would drop away from the perfect signal and sit with snow, if I rotated the mast to bring the other antenna into line the image would recover, and with the two 632's I tested, both have a preference to receiver A, and that side also has around 2dBm more sensitivity, same deal on both receivers, although they should be identical, it looks like the pcb design is likely to be robbing some sensitivity or introducing noise into B side. Thanks again for posting.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      Thanks. Good to know its the A antenna, will keep to using that port only! I guess an automatic antenna tracker really does not need diversity since it is actively tracking the model! 2dBm is no small amount when you are looking to squeeze everything out of your system in terms of range! :D Thanks for the tip! :)

      @@isaakyakolev2479 could be a faulty unit, bad antenna, or bad antenna orientation. I’ve had a few of these VTx now. And other than on where I let it overheat; they have all output at least 1.2W.

  • @stevefox3763
    @stevefox3763 Před 5 lety

    Lol, don't blame you for strapping a heatsink to it, bet it got super hot without!
    My 1500mw 5.8ghz vtx came with a factory heatsink and fan and It runs cooler than any of my 600 and 800mw units I own.
    Sure it adds size and weight but at the tx power level and current draw of these, we ain't sticking them on tiny planes and can afford the extra bulk to keep them cool.

      Yeah, sadly I don't have access to the latter, and to be honest I've seen so many people struggle with other antenna trackers... and thinking back to my, literally, flawless experience with the MFD one... I really am reluctant to dive into something that I am almost certain would cause me a substantial waste of time and nerves! :D I do have one of those ardu trackers... built it myself... such a waste of time and parts... A friend of mine actually built an RSSI antenna tracker recently... he is out at the field every week troubleshooting it, making new antennas, changing stuff, adding stuff... removing stuff... it is horrible just looking at him! And it never does seem to work right!

    • @austntexan
      @austntexan Před 6 lety

      That's very helpful information as I'm no longer on the fence about what kind of tracker to get lol. I've wanted one since forever and all my local flying buddies are using everything from Immersion to Eagle Tree. MFD AAT owners all seem to really like the performance. I do have an AAT but it's only usable with its specific autopilot(Pitlab). Thanks again for your response and I am now one of your Patreon supporters. • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 4 lety

      Yes, I had it set to the highest setting, but some people reported that it had different output on different channels... ranging from 900mW to 1800mW, depending on the frequency... so no idea if it is actually outputting 1200mW, more, or less! How far will you go with this setup... no idea... depends on what antenna you have on the Vtx, and how accurate you are able to point the receiving antenna at the plane! I would say 15kms might be possible... but certainly over 10kms!

      @viewsfromabove1161 Před 6 lety +1

      Looking at his altitude, Fresnel zone violation is doubtful, particularly on 5.8GHz. It's possibly the AGC on the LNA / diversity. Hard to tell without further testing.

    • @astragalizont

      The antenna was not close to me, and I was quite annoyed with the lack of clear signal at times to think about this! Only got to analysing the situation once I headed back and was bored... hahaha. A friend of mine, who has a lot of experience with these systems and with antennas, was pretty certain it was not a fresnel zone thing but the diversity receiver switching between the antennas at the worst time.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      Thanks! I haven't done something like this before, but I think it involves cutting the control surfaces in two pieces each, and when you add the second servo to each control surface, you should adjust it so both are working in unison.

  • @kermets
    @kermets Před 6 lety +2

    yes i guess if you thought about the switching of antennas when you were in the air you could have removed one

    Why do u need an antenna tracker when u r flying to one direction? I can build a tracker for less than $100 on my eagletree system but the diversity with 2 VTx one with omni antenna and the other with a yagi serve the cause...

      Guy St this video was about a vtx...

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety +2

      Damn! Something must be wrong with that 1.3Ghz 800mW Vtx of yours. As far as I've seen... with that much output on 1.3 people have been out to over 150kms! As for the tracker, I use it because I have setup most of my planes with it anyway, and because I don't always fly out in a single direction and back. Also, 5.8Ghz is different from 1.3Ghz! With 1.3Ghz you can have high gain antennas with a wide beam, so you could do long range without a tracker! With 5.8Ghz sadly, as the frequency goes up, in order to keep the antenna gain, the beam narrows down, so it becomes critical for it to be well pointed in the direction of the model!

    Couple of things:
    Why use the clouds instead of the believer? We want to see that bird fly! xD
    I can see that you monitor the temperature on the osd, were is the sensor? How do you put it on the osd? Is it plug & play with the MFD? Would it be easy to do with a pixhawk? Do you really consider necessary to monitor the temperature? (I have always been curious to monitor few different temperatures on real time, battery/fc/ESC's/motors...)
    Keep on rocking, and keep on enjoying!

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      Haha, I use the Clouds because it is by far my most reliable plane at this time, having flown countless of kms, and I know its RTH to be working 100% reliably! As for the Believer, you will see more of it this summer, but right now it has iNav in it, and I wouldn't trust it to more than a few kms out, hence why I will be installing a Pixhawk in the Believer, just so I can have that reliable RTH! At some point it just might replace the Clouds as my go-to plane for doing these kids of tests! :)

      @JohnFHendry Před 5 lety +1

      Yes and YOU are causing it... deliberately and bragging about it here under your words... but the hobby will not die because there are very few people like you deliberately harming it. It doesn't matter where you live if you like flying RC FPV you respect it and use common sense when you fly.... but you don't and prefer to rebel against common sense and incite anger among the RC community for your desire to produce a state of disorder and make money as a troublemaker.

      @uavpilot6715 Před 5 lety +1

      Let me stop you right there, I am a certified drone pilot and take the aviation rules very seriously, unlike other people that doesn't respect the rules and think they can fly in just about any airspace, it's ridiculous. The regulations are getting tougher and stricter because of those that don't like following the rules. I follow the rules and my point was, I wish I could fly FPV in areas where it wouldn't cause any safety concern to the public or even the aviation.
      Just like everyone else, I want to enjoy the hobby too and from a safety point of view. This is where, we as a community need to work together to address these issues. But when people start pointing fingers and attacking one another, that's where the system fails and everyone else suffers.

    Hello again from North Carolina, United States. As stated in my comments on your last video posted, I was waiting for your test and eval of this transmitter. I think we have a winner here and wait for your subsequent testing. I will purchase from your link provided.
    May I ask the following concerning this video test? Could it be possible that removing the home made helical and replacing it with IBCrazy's Mad Mushroom or other fine antenna from Alex Greve make the difference and solve the issue you just experienced? I have one of IBCrazy's helical and it is outstanding. I use the same diversity receiver with a Mad Mushroom and 7 turn Helical and have no issues out to 12 km and slightly beyond. Since I am using the L9R, I have been cautious and weary of pushing out further.
    Anyway, once finances permit, I intend to purchase FrSky R9M and R9 long range transmitter and receiver.

That is my theory too and that is why I intend to test all of the antennas I have, just in case. No matter which one comes out on top, I will use it to repeat the test, and hopefully will get some better results! If not... will have to look for the issue elsewhere! In any case it is a receiver side issue, don't think its a problem with the Vtx! As for the Vtx... seems good... but it does need sufficient cooling at the 1200mW power option. :)

    Have you measured it? Every akk 600mw i've bought has measured 1000mw. I pick them up for 9 dollars on amazon.
    All the units i've tested has thermal protection. The will reduce power with respect to temperature. The output power returns to rated output once it's cooled. I leave them on the meter will no cooling for 20 minutes and have yet to seen one fail from overheating.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety +1

      Yes, they do have thermal protection, I know of this, but still prefer to use a heat sink... piece of mind and all that! :D I have not measured these yet, might do it with a friend's gear since I don't have anything like that here. Interesting to see such high output out of 600mW Vtxs! Usually people claim the output is lower than the stated! :D

    • @briankoch7041
      @briankoch7041 Před 6 lety

      The only units i currently see close to rated output are premium units and they produce rated power at all frequencies. The current value brand units have much higher that rated output however the output has a linear decrease as the frequency increases. Also the current value units spike 1w during output regardless of output power selection including units that can be set to zero output power.
      However previous value units have produced less that rated output. The popular eachine vt03 is a good example with a max output of 100mw on r1 and 70mw on r8 at the 200mw selection. At the 25mw selection the unit produces 35mw on r1 and 8mw on r8.
      Put a pelter on your akk unit with a large heatsink for some fun. My best dyno run has been almost 2w with the 9 dollar 600mw unit.

    • @briankoch7041
      @briankoch7041 Před 6 lety +2

      Got mine.
      1200mw setting = 1843mw
      600mw setting = 1148mw
      200mw setting = 512 mw
      25mw setting = 48mw
      This unit does produce less output based on frequency but the opposite direction than other akk style vtx.
      25mw setting on r1 = 21mw
      25mw setting on r8 = 48mw.
      Something else interesting to note is this unit does not heat up less on lower power settings.
      Output power after 3 minutes of power up with no airflow,
      1200mw setting = 1433mw
      25mw setting = less than 1mw.
      Performace in the 25mw is much worse with heat than any other value unit i've tested however max output setting is much better with heat than any other value unit i've tested.
      Another interesting thing to note is this is the first value brand vtx that does not spike 1w during power up.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 6 lety

      Damn! 1843mW!!! How are you measuring this? Any chance you can measure what the output is on the A3 channel?
      Heat performance is weird... but you can't help but wonder if keeping it powered on that 1200mW option without cooling would result in something melting at some point? Surely can't dissipate reliably even 1433mW!!

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před rokem

      @@chrishenderson5444 Well "just a wire" is what most antennas are, the quality of the antenna comes from the tuning to the specific frequency it needs to operate on! A dipole has a chance of having a higher gain, but will also be a bit more directional, so that needs to be taken into account as well! Usually on a coax cable the centre running wire is the active element, and the cable shielding is the ground. If the antenna terminates with a connector to the board usually the inner part of the connector is the active element, or as you said "positive", and the outside of the connector is the GND.

    25 km is a distance that makes me a little afraid. But ... I want to try my hand at this upgrade on my ranger, trying to reach smaller distances.
    You have already tested this Volantex product, and I have followed your experience. I have a question for you.
    At vtx 5.8g like AKK X2 ultimate 800Mv you think it is better than at 1.2Ghz 1.3Ghz transmitter
    Perhaps the video signal is better with 5.8G but a 1.2 / 3Ghz transmitter has a more powerful and penetrating signal through obstacles.
    On this topic I read conflicting arguments. 1.2G maybe better for quads.
    Sorry but I have some gaps in this field, and I try to fill them.
    After watching your videos, and look at the components you use in your buildings, I think you are the best person to ask for some advice.
    Happy easter 🐣 and good flights 🛩 too all 🙂

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  Před 5 lety +1

      Happy Easter to you too! Actually 1.3Ghz will always give you more range, much more range and penetration, but the quality of the image might be just a tad lacking compared to the quality of a 5.8Ghz signal! But then it all boils down to what you are looking to do with the model! 5.8Ghz as hardware is much more developed now, due to its popularity and ease of use, antennas are smaller, etc., so it gets used a lot! 1.2Ghz would require a lot of filtering on all receivers and/or transmitters, usually has issues with most other frequencies so it is more demanding to setup and use properly, plus the antennas are bigger, which is a huge minus in my book! But like I said... if you are looking to do over 100kms in a straight line without an antenna tracker... 1.2Ghz is the way to go!

    For higher power its ouput is amplified with an rf amplifier. There is actrually only one affordable rf amplifier suitable for 5.8 GHz with around 1 W power ouput for about 10 dollars. Propably all 600 to 1200 mW 5.8 ghz video transmitter use the Analog Devices HMC408. Not until 40 to 60 dollars you get 2 W from the TriQuint TGA2706 and Analog Devices HMC7357 and 4 W for about 90 dollars with the Analog Devices HMC1121.
