FAQ's:
1: How much did the entire setup cost?
A: At the time I built this in 2015 around £1,500 - £1,700. The expensive components are the goggles, radio transmitter, UHF system, Antenna tracker and the GoPro. You can build a long range rig these days for a lot less.
2: How did you make the Skywalker grey?
A: I used multi purpose grey primer spray paint from my local DIY store. No prep was needed and it took 3 coats I think. Its easy to damage the paint work so laminating it afterwards probably would have been a good idea.
3: What is the all up weight (AUW)?
A: Around 2.8kg with 10,000mAh on board.

Impressive setup and flight - congrats and thumbs ups!
+Neil “Quad Damage” McNicholl Cheers Neil :)
Normally can't stand long flights, but your constant explanation of your setup and in-flight incidents kept me watching, good stuff
+Ben Dover Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. Good to hear that its keeping the video interesting :)
8 years later and still looking at comments legend, also I just got into long range fpv drones which is super fun
Its a great hobby 👌🏻 enjoy 😎
A very informative and enjoyable video. Thanks so much for your efforts. I started in the hobby in the early 70's building and flying hand launch gliders, rubber free-flight and single channel escapement rc...the transmitter had a tube! I have always delighted in how technology has advanced the cutting edge and you make that very accessible.
Love a well narrated flight! Well done and keep it up. :)
+wepootheuser Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it. I hope to do more narrated flights this summer as the weather gets better :)
Nicely done, great explanation of your setup
+CurryKitten Cheers for the feedback Wayne, appreciate it.
what are you doing here :D
Nice video. I love the way the aerial footage gives one the feeling of looking out the window of a passenger aircraft. Beautiful!
Since I can’t play golf anymore, this is a hobby I am seriously considering. Thank you.
Thank you, it's a great hobby!
That was fun to watch. I´m recently ordered an "X-UAV Skua" just to build for long range fpv with Dragonlink. These kind of videos are a great inspiration source. Good work Adam.
+Uffe Uffe Thanks for your comment :) Nice to hear that it is providing inspiration to others! Good luck with your Skua build, I hear they are extremely good at long range
Great video Adam ! Very good narration :)
+Coyote FPV Thanks Ian :)
This video is about the best fpv related video I've ever seen! Informative, calm and professional like comments. Your Skywalker looks like a really clean build! How did you paint it?
+asgeir nilssen Thanks= you for the kind feedback :) I painted it using multi purpose grey primer spay from my local hardware store. The finish was good but its easy to damage the paintwork. If i was doing it again i'd probably laminate it straight after to protect it.
Painting these planes is hard. Keeping i look good, even worse.. I'm thinking about using some kind of rubber paint. Or coloured laminate. I've seen carbon fiber look laminate used on a skywalker, looked awsome!
Yeah i'd say coloured laminate would be your best option
I couldn't agree more. Very insightful and informative. I really enjoyed that.
I'd love some advice on starting. I already have the typical dji drone setup but this is all together a different beast. I'd like some opinions on the very best startup equipment, everything needed, to do a good 8k or so startup. I don't know am I expecting to much to start with. I really want to get into this.
Thanks for covering your build in enough detail to replicate it. I have never done long range FPV but this vid helped a ton!
Thanks for the comment :) glad to hear the video helped.
June 22nd, 2023 - Thank you for your comprehensive vid. Setting up my plane. Lots of learning yet needed. Your Vid has helped bunches. Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the feedback 😃
Nicely Done, Very Professional Video!
+YoSneeze Cheers :) Hopefully more to come when the weather improves.
Do you not need to have a flight path or communication with a control tower
Nice setup,very interesting commentary.
+Jake Bullit Cheers Jake, Glad you liked this one :)
I agree with all the positive comments.Thankyou for taking the time to film, edit and share with us :)
+Ian Davis Hello Ian. Thanks you the comment :) makes it all worth while
I use a simular setup on 3.3 and 5.8. Nice to see others have implemented the relay station setup!
Its the way to go :)
lol @ weirdo stood in middle of field, I get that feeling a lot :D
Yeah, people wonder what on earth i'm doing... and then they understand when the plane returns haha
Excellent video, thanks!
+Jimmy Plays Thanks Jimmy, glad you enjoyed it :)
+Adam G does FPV I've signed up at fpvhub.com but my account is awaiting approval. Expect an intro post soon :)
Sounds good :) let me know if it takes longer than 24 hours to get approved and I can give them prod
I watched this video back when you posted it. I know a lot more about fpv now and have just watched it again. It's great to see a 15km flight in the weather that I can expect most of the time in NE England. Considering the cloud and the relatively low altitude I think that getting to 15km before video breakup is a good result. I'm amazed when I fly 5km on 5.8ghz and can't wait to switch to 1.3! great video : )
Yup you'll love the switch from 5.8 to 1.3. So much more reliable. Thanks for the comment :)
Nice presentation, one of the best fpv flight so far in CZcams. Keep up the good work
Thanks for the comment :) appreciate the great feedback. Cheers
Great job Adam, we need to see more of your assistant though ;-)
+BlueFlyer FPV Haha cheers :) Will see what I can do with the assistant... Need to get her flying a fixed wing, shes only had a go at flying the F450.
Nice setup!
+Da Aa Thanks :) Cant wait for better weather so I can make more videos!
Very well narrated. Perfect for beginners and experienced alike! Cheers.
+Tech2C Thanks for the feeback, glad you enjoyed it :)
That was a tremendous amount of usable information. Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback :)
Brilliant video Adam, makes me want to go out and buy a Dragonlink system and do this for myself, thanks for the inspiration dude.
+Chris Blackburn I'm pleased to hear this inspired you to do it yourself, my favorite feedback.
Nice flight mate! I love fpv narrated videos and you do them brilliantly mate thumbs
+i8thegovernment Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I hope to make another when the weather calms down a bit
+Adam G does FPV Cool we have had storms for the past week here in the uk, So im desperate for another fpv. Weather is saying tuesday will be ok. Where do you fly?
Best video in this category so far - thanks for explaining all the tech stuff. 5/5!
Thanks! appreciate the feedback :)
That's remarkable makes me very interested and envious, It is now 09/26/19 this summer was my first adventure into FPV starting small and inexpensive. A real relief to have made it back with the planes flown. Yet quite a thrill.
Welcome to the world of FPV, it's very addictive :D Thanks for watching
I wish you could just buy something like that, ready to go.
I have quite a few planes now. If anyone wants to buy this actual plane as complete or incomplete as they like, drop me a message through my Facebook Page: facebook.com/AdamGdoesFPV
No doubt you could pay someone to set it up for you. Maybe even teach you how to use it all.
This was a great video! How much was all this kit together? Would love to get into the hobby!
+Lorcan Kelleher Thanks :) I sent around £1500- 2000 on all of this kit but you can get a great setup for way less. If you want to give it a try, have a go with something simple and cheap like this: www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__78977__HobbyKing_8482_Mini_Skyhunter_P_P_with_FPV_Set.html
+Adam G does FPV thanks for the reply and also for the suggestion; I want to go as far as you go through. you e inspired me. I'll save and carry on. thanks a million!
Lorcan Kelleher 8km is easily achieved using a lot less equipment, with barely anything on the ground. If you do want to save and go as far as I do then go for it, its a lot of fun and a great experience. Are you in Ireland? I guess you are based on the "thanks a million". I am located in Dublin so if you get up and running let me know if you fancy flying together.
I loved watching the video, excellent set up. It is fantastic that you share your set up and knowledge as to assist others who are trying to get into this hobby. Don't stop teaching others. Fantastic. Terry
Cheers glad you enjoyed it and found it useful. It's not the easiest hobby to get into so I'm pleased this is helping people out
WOW, i have no knowledge of FPV I just happened to stumbled across this video but I'm shocked and amazed.... great video, brililant narration, thanks for sharing
+raysengineering786 Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you enjoyed :) FPV is a great hobby and there are many different styles.
Very well presented. Rg's Lola
+Anthony Bishop Cheers, glad you liked it :)
It would be a dream come true for me if you were to hook it up on a weather balloon 🎈 and release it at the stratosphere and glide it 🏡
I'd love to do that! I think a lot of permissions would be required, and you'd need to pick the perfect day. Would be great fun though and a good challenge
Adam G does FPV please let me know when you're going to do it
by the way, where do you live?
@@24juan68 ireland
@Keith Eduardo shut up lmao

...that tracker thingy is just amazing. Cool vid.
Thanks for the comment :) Tracker is a cool bit of kit
Awesome dempresentation,I actually listened and watched the whole play by play something I rarely do.That was some serious fpv set up and flying if You tube gave the option for a hands up you'll definitely get mine, unfortunately you got to settle for the thumb, lol.Great video.
Cheers mate. I'm glad it captures your attention for the duration :) I try my best to make my vids entertaining the whole way through 👍🏼
Nice one Adam. I love the skywalkers, and you do it justice. Well done.
+RC Modeller Thanks for the compliment :) Glad you liked it.
Moisture does sap your vTx and reduce it's performace. I really enjoy this video. Simply superb bro.
+Aero FPV Thanks :) Yeah I have no doubt I will get much further with a clearer picture in better conditions
That's awesome. Kool video man.

+FunctionalDesign Thanks for the feedback :)
That was really cool. At the end it became apparent that you are outstanding in your field.
Thanks I appreciate it :)
Thank you for the video Adam, that is pretty impressive stuff, you obviously have spent alot of time getting things right and it's paid off - you really should change the title to 33km range test!
+Geoff W. (Devo) Thanks :-) If I put 33km people get funny about it as they think it means 33km from home :-/
fpv goals...
amazing video!!! great job!
Thanks Alex
So amazing!
Thanks 👍🏻😎
Greatest fpv project
Thanks for watching :)

Your clickbait thumbnail drew me in..... Great run over a British countryside. Loved my time living there.
Awesome video, interesting commentary. Thanks for shearing ;)
+RC Planes 31 Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
excellent video, very interesting as I fly a 1900 as well but so far have only managed 2.6km on 2.4 ghz control.
+Russell Smith Thanks Russell. Sounds like a UHF system is the next step for you then :) with the right antennas you can go as far as you like (further than your battery will last for sure)
Awesome flight
+VanossGaming lol fake Thanks :)
Great !!!!! ☺ you're a man of untold good taste 👍
Cheers
Really awesome video and flight….thanks for all the detailed technical info…i love it.
Cheers Robby, appreciate your feedback :)

this dope. I'm just getting into fpv on cars. ordered some cheap goggles to see if I can fly with them
+jarrod brown Not tried land based yet myself, sounds fun though :) good luck flying
really cool video and even better the explanation
Glad you liked it! Thanks 😊
Great video very informative big thanks
You're welcome David, glad you liked it
An excellent flight. I also enjoyed your narration! Thanks also for the setup tips. I just started exploring my options and this was very helpful. Curious if you have ever lost a plane.
+VPC1600 Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I haven't lost a plane yet but I have only been flying FPV since the start of the year. This was my first ever FPV aircraft. I am currently building a Falcon EVO wing for closer, faster, lower flights.
Great flight, thanks for posting!
You're welcome, thanks for watching and for your comment
Beautiful!
Thanks David 😊
Nice 👍I love Planes and Drones keep flying Bro keep Flying 👆

Crystal video...very good flight
Thanks :) my video is even better on my newer models with better FPV cameras and power filtering etc.
That's pretty slick.
Thanks :)
Very nice. I Need to get a setup like this. Just got my technicians license.
Thanks :) Good luck with your build if you get one
Relly cool video
keep flying and keep uploding
=)
+Q8TsyQ8 Cheers, the vids will keep on coming...
Great flight very impressive
Cheers Paul
Absolutely brilliant! I love narrated flights. I tried to do it once but I have a boring voice and make it sound like a kamikaze pilot. Speaking of which, I sense a slight Midlander accent?
+Vortecks Cheers :) I think everyone hates the sound of their own voice, I really didn't like hearing mine but i knew people would like the video or find it interesting/more useful with the narration. I'm from Solihull just outside of Birmingham so you guessed right :P Currently living in Ireland though
yes! great setup and video! :)
Thanks :)
Nice flight and nice assistant! Thank-you for the video.
+Joe DeJohn Cheers Joe, glad you liked it :)
The best video about long range system. TNX
Thanks Roman, I appreciate the feedback. Cheers :)
How did you connect the reapeter 5.8 to 1.2ghz reciever?
The video receiver is connected to the input on this: amzn.to/2gEm6XV and there are 4 outputs for the video signal. 1 goes to a 5.8g vtx. Simple as that :)
I built the whole plane and could not do this simple thing. Don't know what a problem.
I have a 7inch display and fatshark. I took a a/v cable that plugs into the fatsharks and a a/v cable that plugs into the receiver. I bought a regular rca splitter and connected the display and the fatshark through it, but when you put them together, there's the dispaly image jumping... When i unplug one of them its ok.
After that I tried to do your method with vtx5.8. I cut a plug of RCA and took the white (video+) wire. I connected it to the transmitter's video cable (yelow) , find the band, but only saw a black screen in the fatshark.
Excellent video Adam. Hope to catch up with you again sometime. Regards, Mark
+Mark Burgess Thanks Mark. Hope you are well :)
Nicely done Adam. As you know, I'll be installing a DLA V3 in my Skywalker, and one of the posters on the RC Groups DL thread advised mounting the rx on the wing as when he had it in the tail, he found reception on the return leg compromised by the kit in the fuselage. That did surprise me, have you noticed any drop in the RSSI on return compared to heading out?
Awesome !!!
Thanks :)
Well done, nice setup nice flight .
Cheers :)
Fantastic!!!
Thanks :)
i love the vid on what you use for fpv probably the best. Is it possible to show how you hooked everything up an setting home and what not. Also how does the tracker work what does it use to know where the plane is? THx!!!
