Disappointed how? This show was fantastic
Hello

SMFH 🤦🏿♂️....🤷🏿♂️
The story was definitely more about the girl than anything. They should’ve focused it on his past
Yup, it ruined it.
Yeah, the anime could've done a lot better without her, the mecha, and magical bits. But this is Netflix 🤦🏾♂️
Of course they focused on her. Can't have a black man being a main competent badass anime character 🙄
Yasukes story is muddy IRL, he appeared, became Oda's personal bodyguard and literally disappear, just like that. That's why they making it fantasy story
@@Bopmyglizz 😂💯💯
The story of Yasuke deserves a good adaptation with an actual competent writer this time.
yea it was almost like the story was more about the little girl's powers then actually being about how badass the first black samurai is
@@southsidevintage9408 is think ur wrong in this case lol. I think the story should equally revolve around the two abd they should of made the girl slowly learn her powers and become more of a consistent character. That guy in the beginning who used her power was really cool ngl amd I'd like to see the power developed in some way. If they could balance the two then I'd enjoy this show alot more
Exactly. By episode 4 i was like what the fuck am I watching why is all this extra shit about Mecha samurai, bear women and psychic girls? why are you throwing everything at this as if youre afraid to just focus on Yasuke and his history? Felt like they hire some fanfics writer to write this
His story in reality was not very impressive though. He never fought in any battles and he was kind of treated subhuman slave by Oda and at the end Mitsuhide refused to kill him because he didn't consider him a samurai.
Personally I don't you people and your obsession with black representation in other cultures. I'd rather see a good story about zulu tribe leaders or African fables and heroes.
@@jasonhymes3382 be quiet u would never understand so ur opinion doesn't matter
Yusuke getting carried by a 9-year-old in his own anime is bs. It got worse when she said didn't even need him she just didn't want to be lonely.
I found it really fucking annoying why call the anime yasuke when the important character is a dumb girl
That's the insult to injury that do to black people here's a new anime with u as the lead ......
Nm why would it be about u your a joke
@@JaydenL. can’t let a black man be the main character apparently

Yasuke ended up being about a little magical girl.

My biggest problem with yasuke, was that it didn’t feel like an anime about samurai.

I wish it was like Vinland Saga where characters are strong no magic needed
But I liked it
@@goodshow5528 that's exactly what I keep saying.
I actually wanted a history lesson about Yasuke.
Exactly
Sorry to disappoint but there's very little information about him. Whatever video about him longer than 3 min is already fiction. I get your point though, it should've been fiction like Vinland Saga.
why would you expect real history from an anime? that's your own fault
@@carstarsarstenstesenn you sound like a 12 year old, if you are shut up and let the grown ups talk
You can still get that ya know just...read about him in books you can use google if you want. All the information is there.
The anime is called Yasuke, but it focuses more on the girl instead of the character of the same name.
It's like if Naruto focused more on Sakura instead of Naruto himself.
inuyasha was all about kagome. So thats at least another anime with a weird title
On Original Naruto it focus on him
But on Naruto Shipp it focus other Characters.
Basically if the the Zabuza arc focused on the architect they were body guarding instead of team 7
In the beginning it did focus on Sasuke for a long time
It was called Naruto and focused somewhat evenly on everyone then it turned to Uchiha Shippipuden 😂
"Here's a gritty anime about a historical figure!"
"Yeah! We'll get to see what life was like for h-"
"Fuck all that boring shit! Here's some giant robots"

"Would a werewolf help?"
"Not really"
"Can he defeat a werewolf?"
"Please stop..."
Samurai Gun, yeah samurai gun takes place in feudal japan and has uzi ak 47 m16 and trains with tanks
wtf mappa?
It was a bear, well not like it matters, the hell was that story
i immediately think of samurai warriors/sengoku basara the in the first 5 minutes of the episode, i guess the writer liked those games and just shoved it into the show
@@hafidlho7332 Hopefully, Koei will do Yasuke justice. I mean, they did do him well in Nioh. It a shame where Yasuke finally get to shine get overshadow by a mutant jesus magical girl. Like wtf man!?
Werebear? Where? Bear?

Genuinely
Facts
Same.
the setting itself is interesting. they shouldve made it two separated anime. one about yasuke and his past black samurai blablabla and another one about the child. thr yasuke part didnt need no magic as the idea of a black samurai was great
@@Omobsterrrr it ruined the whole show tbh :(
i honestly thought that this will be a realistic anime...
Yea especially given the name is Yasuke is like why take this opportunity to go fantasy esque I was hoping they'd at least go more of the rurouni kenshin samurai x kinda way. Make it something epic. To me it was majorly wasted, and yea I feel like lakeith Stanfield wasn't the best choice for the voice, they could have picked a better lead voice.
It should have been.
@@M2DreDaniel exactly!
well watch a fucking documentary
I did too but that's no reason to say it's not good. judge it for what it is, not for what you thought it would be--or what you want it to be
my main issue here is LeSean Thomas. he had such an all star team around him, a dope ass sound producer in flying lotus, takeishi koike as animation director and mappa with the production. LeSean and the story borders completely fumbled the bag. There was so much potential here, i was so hyped because it reminded me of a mix between afro samurai and samurai champloo
Flying Lotus put his foot in the soundtrack, it is easily the best part of the show and carried the first season
Yeah my expectations dropped significantly when I found out he was the writer.
I definitely agree with you. The cast and music was so dope but they could’ve done so much better with the story. I was excited about this too 😔
it's clearly the weakling of the team and it's netflix that send him to a producer seat
they did the same error with another anime named canon buster: total trash
Maybe because he’s American...
I admit I'm a Flying Lotus fan, but I can't believe you didn't notice the score being way more creative and effortful than the rest of the show.
dunno who they are tbh
Whoever they are have to compete against great soundtracks from other anime btw
No other anime Ive seen has this experimental electronic r and b music that Yasuke had. Honestly so much of anime music is JPOP or orchestral, so this was refreshing
Dunno how it's implemented in the show, cause I ain't watching that shit, but the OST is worth a full listen.
I thought it was going to be a semi-realistic anime about Samurai, not an anime about aliens and psychics
If done correctly, it would've been great having those elements in the story. We already have samurai champloo and afro samurai, so I liked that yasuke was at least bold to be different. Just poorly executed
a big letdown tbh
@@belialsimp1100 for real, I was pretty excited for this show and I was very disappointed

Aliens?
Once I saw the introduction the magic and robots. I immediately knew it's about to be meh
There are robots and magic in a samurai world.. and also bearwolfs?
@@vvscut3933 Russian werebears
At least magic and robots were introduced in the first episode so they didn’t seem to just appear randomly
I have to agree with you there, I was just so utterly confused when the fucking mech showed up in the beginning and the giant talking robot and furry beast transformation lady arrived near the end of the first episode. The mystical magic stuff on its own would have been fine but combine that with fully mechanical robots in fucking 15th century Japan and you just have a random mishmash of cool sounding but half baked ideas
honestly I kinda thought the robot designs were pretty cool
They never showed why Yasuke is so good at fighting, they never show his village, it was a bit too fast
Facts, the anime should’ve focused on yasuke’s entire life. From his childhood in africa, to how he ended up becoming a servant in japan and then how he finally became a samurai. I would’ve felt way more for him if i had seen more of him, instead they just focus on a generic last of us type story where he has to protect a special child.
Don't even know how he got captured and why he never revolted to go back to his village
It’s like the only amazing thing about him is he’s black
@@SAMSARALIVEEEEEE although there is not much we know of yasuke before he becomes a slave etc. they could have easily do an extensive research on him and connect things together with their own made up story to fill the gap that way we could at least get the idea of his life etc...instead its just fiction cocktail or whatever the fuck thats not even about yasuke most of the time
@@speemus6223 maybe we will see that in S2
The literal anime name is Yasuke and they decided to focus on the girl
I am hoping that future seasons will sideline the little girl’s character and give yasuke more time to shine, I think it has great potential
That's what every Naruto fan would say lmao.
@@crocodiletears498 I hope they get rid of her completely. She is literally in every way possible a Mary Sue and made Yasuke pointless.
@@1mnot4rrogant90 fr
@@crocodiletears498 dont think there will be future seasons, as it was already intended with very little content
For me, almost all of the issues this show has stem from it's pacing.
They really could have spread this out to ten or twelve episodes and done a lot better I think.
I don't mind the Lone wolf and the pup story trope at all. He was a lot more than just a bodyguard to the girl, and they had a good dynamic. They supported and helped one another.
Again though, its like.. Who is this child? Who are these people? Why am I supposed to care? Who even is the main villain and how did we get here?
There just wasn't enough time, man.
I definitely agree
Idk wtf was going on especially the ending of episode 4 and the beginning of episode 5
I would've liked to see more development of Yasukes and the girls bond and her actually learning how her power works instead of just figuring everything out like that
Stuff just makes less and less sense each episode and nothing felt earned
They added waaaayyy too much unnecessary shit to this story.. Why not just have Yasuke and the girl travel across feudal japan with Yasuke running into enemies from his past as the girls powers slowly unravel(samurai champloo style)? Whats with these samurai mech and bear women and robots? Shit was an absolute mess. The story feels so amateur like they were afraid to just let it be what it was supposed to be.
Yeah I agree, the story turned up way too quick
@@codeninja100 facts
100% this. The first 2 or so episodes were decent, with Yasuke's history being told piece by piece to the audience. But once it got closer to the war arc it felt like it came out of nowhere. Like wtf is happening
Yasuke become the protector and secondary character of a little girl. Its as if they weren't confident that a black character could carry this anime. Afro Samurai, Black Lagoon, and Michiko to Hatchin had black leads that kicked ass while carrying their anime. This was a slap in the face of Yasuke. This shows that its American producers who don't have confidence in black leads.
Big facts. I want to see him. Not some magic girl. Save that for another anime 😂
Nah I think it was more that the show has shitty writers because the flash backs went harder than the actual story. With all the “inclusion” we see nowadays I dont think many people care what race the characters are
Truth that's the plan exactly
@@missachin5054 yes all +80 of them
@@cap3423 no we definitely do. I had high hopes for this only to be let down. Having a black side character who barely gets screen time is nowhere near the level of having a black lead in an anime.
The best thing about this anime was the soundtrack.
Flying Lotus carried the season with the soundtrack, I still think there is potential in the show I hope later seasons will be better
Literally the only reason I watched it the whole way through
SWEAR!
They had a golden opportunity to be a mix of both a documentary and an anime, such wasted potential.

They should've just focused on Yasuke's story and sword fighting instead of unnecessarily throwing magic and mechs in there.
all was good except LeSean send by netflix like for cannon busters
That’s what I was saying! The sword fighting was amazing. I was left hungry
The story was pure fiction, too, and straight up contradicted history. The funny thing about Mitsuhide was that he died 15 _days_ after Nobu's death. This series implies that he lived for _years_ afterwards.
If they kept this historic accurate, I'd legit have been restless to watch it
Me too
They could’ve done a Sengoku-esque story based around Yasuke’s rise to samurai and had a fully fleshed story and cast loosely based on history, but instead we got whatever the hell this was supposed to be.
The writer isnt really familiar with Japanese history, in a way, he just used “anime”, mappa, to piggyback off of it to give his work more traction. Disappointing honestly
This would've made so much more sense honestly.
@@roarrrist yasuke is nothing in Japanese history tho, he’s barely a notebook.
I’ve only watched 5 episodes but I wasn’t even feeling it. I was more interested in his past as a samurai rather than, this journey he was on with this girl with psychic powers.
Theres only 6 episodes so you got the just of the problems with this anime. They tried to do waaay too much. Samurai robots? Bear women? What?

I was relatively surprised that there were very little key animated sakuga moments. The animation was almost too inconsistent for a Mappa project. This anime felt like a cross between Afro Samurai, Basilisk, Samurai Champloo, and Samurai 7.

We needed more of yasuke story, sure there wasnt much about him during his life with oda nobunaga but they could have created a lot of scenarios for him since we do have nobunaga history before he died, and at least then the story would have been better with some notable characters we know of from japan history too added
Exactly
Actually yasuke's time with nobunaga was the only documented history on yasuke, other than that his life is very unknown and vague
exactly. people keep saying that there wasn't enough proof of his existence blah blah blah, but i'm pretty sure film adaptations have been made for historical figures who probably have been less background and history. hopefully yasuke's story gets adapted truthfully one day.
@@chaaaargh that's what I'm saying. There are a bunch of historical fictions that are dramatized. People saying there isn't enough information on Yasuke doesn't help anything... It's literally the writer's job to do research and fill in the blanks with entertaining stories.

It was the little girl that fended off the mercenaries, Yasuke only slowed them down.
It was the mercenaries who came to save the village from the attack. Yasuke only kills the General after he has been weakened by the little girl.
It was the little girl who defeats the main villain after YASUKE DIES. AND SHE BRINGS YASUKE BACK TO LIFE AFTERWARDS!
This anime had nothing to do with Yasuke yet they still have the audacity to name the series after him. Throwback to Indiana Jones Raiders of the lost Ark.

why tf do they introduce magic and robots in this show? I just want some old fashioned samurai series.
You don't see these nonsenses in samurai champloo or afro samurai.
This show is not about samurai but about the power of that girl and therefore more a fantasy genre...this is a huge let down for me. The producers seem to try too hard to appeal to western audience, but they didn't realize that what makes samurai genre great to us western viewers are precisely those old values of them samurais (with some violence of course, but violence is not the major factor here)...which are spiritual and so distant from our materialistic culture.
They attempted to discuss this value (sort of discard it by say "there's no honor in it") but you cannot just deconstruct an idea verbally. Samurai champloo had the theme of freedom over the old ways but they did it so much better than this show. overall WASTED potential. so disappointed because it could be so great...
There’s robots in Afro Samurai......
@@the_lonely_winner2956 my bad....yeah there was. but that was a droid with a katana. real problem is they focus too much on that girl rather than yasuke
Yeah I think this is more of a Lesshaun Thomas issue than anything. Cannon Busters had a few story problems too
Exactly
This shit felt kinda like one of those cases where the original manga was so great and popular that the editorial decided to make another series without its good stuff and they fucked up the story. But instead they fucked up right from the start, which is very sad considering how much I was looking forward to it and how much potential it had.
ex-arm manga fans. first time?
It was really messy. Advanced droid with AI, beam weapons and infra red sight and visual recognition...Magic, mutants... mecha suits..netflix just adds everything and see what sticks.
And the girl already beats everyone so why did she need training?
I wish they just focused on yasuke’s origin and training, that could have been great.
Respectfully, only reason anyone I know is checking this out is simply because of Flying Lotus on the soundtrack. That's pretty huge just cause it's the first time since Samurai Champloo that a producer scored an entire anime (not including RZA on Afro Samurai cause it was basically an OVA)
@Ezio Fernandez you got to go to an ear doctor bro something might be wrong.
@Ezio Fernandez simply false, first time a experimental hip hop producer scores a full anime since Nujabes? I'd say that's special, and the sound is unique with Thundercat on some vocals
@Ezio Fernandez soundtrack was great. maybe you need to listen to more FlyLo
Thought I was getting an Afro Samurai type story instead I got Fairy Tale.
The mom got shot in the arm and this entire time I thought she would be alive. I was shocked when she never came back because in anime important characters don't die that easily. The only thing I didn't like about it was the end. How the heck did a girl that just found out about her powers not even a week ago is powerful enough to kill the daimu like it was nothing. I get she was suppose to be all powerful but like seriously she literally about to lose in the spirit realm and then later she can do anything just with a little pep talk
That's called inconsistency my friend
It was an attempt by Netflix to make a version of Afro Samurai but couldn't "cut" it.
I personally liked it. It wasn't perfect, but it was good. There should have been more episodes though, it would've fleshed out the story a bit more, because it did feel like the pacing was a bit fast. There was definitely some issues with it but over all, the animation was good, the soundtrack was pretty dope and Yasuke being a complete badass definitely added to me liking it even more!
It was fast pace
The Japanese dialogue was rushed through just like the plot line.
I wonder what the dub will sound like? 🤔
They literally shitted on the history of yasuke
the story was was basically about the girl 😹 like wtf
This Anime is really 3 seasons condensed into 1
Mappa was only responsible for animation lmao
But it was their fault to even pick up this story
(For money obviously)
@@momento3453 I wouldn't say fault.. But yeah I love damn there everything mappa puts out. But this was just kinda meh 😂😂
@@momento3453 I mean, this was in talks for 3 years, it wasn't just a money grub, and Mappa didn't do the whole thing, it's a Collab I believe
@@samarjeetbhonsle6000 if it wasn't a money grub and was a passion project it wouldn't have turned out like this
@@momento3453 bro mappa does not control the story, the upper directors probably gave it to mappa director and he probably just took it just like he does with the other animes. This guy doesn't care about his animators working too hard
I was like watching Afro Samurai with a story that is confusing. Also felt bad for Yasuke character getting nerfed on all his fights..
is there mecha, werewolf and magic in a historic epoch, in afro samurai ?
How do you have problems with dororo? It was amazing in my opinion
that anime had so many issues, could probably do a whole vid roasting it
The robots and magic was a bit much but it was enjoyable (for me at least) and the soundtrack in this is ASTRONOMICAL but I thought the story was about the young boy and yasuke teaching him how to be a great samurai while going thought his backstory would of been better.
Edit: If it was a history lesson of yasuke I would prefer a live action
I agree with you. I loved it but i agree the robots and magic was a bit much. but why would anyone think this would be real history? its an american anime not a documentary
@@carstarsarstenstesenn ...because some animes are based on folklores and myths? And anime is based in Japan, so it would only make sense for this anime to be about the history of a samurai. Since, that’s supposed to be the plot.
This is one of those anime that should've taken a more realistic route then fantasy. Imaging a anime that teaches you about the first black samurai in a fun way
Prince of Egypt animated movie did this i highly recommend watching prince of Egypt
Edit: now that i think about it. It should've been a movie instead of episodes
I think Chadwick Boseman was in talks for a Yasuke film prior to this death.
you say should have this should have that. why dont you just enjoy it for what it is??
@@carstarsarstenstesenn cause i didn't enjoy it. what just because you enjoy it doesn't mean i have to force myself to change my opinion
If you loved yasuke that's great. I wish i could've felt the same way as you but i didn't I'm sorry all i felt was disappointment and bored
@@carstarsarstenstesenn you cant force people to enjoy anything. It couldve been better as a historical fiction following Oda and Yasuke as they traveled around Japan meeting with other Daimyo and consolidating their own power. The Segoku Jidai period was one of the most interesting eras in Japanese history, they didn't need magic, mechs, and a magical girl to make the story good. They just needed good characters good interactions between them and some historical basis along with a decent story, they wouldve had that the anime wouldve been as good as Afro Samurai or even Samurai Champloo.
Honestly the magic and mechs aren’t problematic in and of themselves. The problem is that they’re basically used as a macguffin which allowed the writers to lazily write the characters out of every difficult situation they were put in.
i feel bad for kids watching this show and writing historical essay about a black samurai dude saves japan from evil queen and robots
@@joshuagraham2843 Why would anyone write a legit essay on a anime that showed it was going to be fantasy in the trailer....
When Yasuke was showcasing his samurai skills, it was awesome! The real problem was the story focused on the girl he had to protect more than anything.
I was so hyped for this show because I expected it to show Yasuke’s interesting life from him being enslaved to him being a super important samurai in feudal Japan. However, I couldn’t sit through the whole thing because I felt that the mecha and supernatural elements was unnecessary and the story was more focused on the girl than Yasuke. I wish the show was just the flashback scenes
I personally loved this anime so much.
same here, the music and animation were so good. Enjoyed my binge watch of this
I love it. Too many people are expecting real history from an American anime. I agree it would be better if it was more realistic but the fantasy stuff doesnt ruin it either.
I don't get why people want realism from an anime This isn't a live action It's anime let it be an anime.
@Levi Ackerman you must dumb as fuck to come up with the phrase “an accurate opinion”. How the fuck could an “opinion” not be accurate lol.
Levi Ackerman pls what
And they totally forgot about ichiro would’ve been cool if they somehow made him into a samurai and he finally taught him how to fight but instead they flung the boy and ignored him
Well, they tried to turn him into some sorts of antagonists who wants so avenge Sakis mother but this sub-plot was quickly forgotten when they returned to the village in the end.
(Some spoilers ahead if anyone cares) I wanted more worldbuilding on the magic they chose to insert and history on that time period in Japan. I wanted more on Nobunaga's fall and Yasuke's relationship with Natsumaro so I'd empathise with Yasuke instead of not caring at all. I wanted to see better character development from Saki rather than deus ex machina stuff. And while I wanted the mercenary dudes to die in the first half cuz I found them annoying, eventually I thought, oh OK, maybe they'll get some development now that they were stupidly inserted into the latter half and lol nope. Those thoughts died as quickly as they did😂 Ugh seriously this had so much potential had it been done on perhaps more than 1 season to allow us to actually get invested.
I was really excited for this anime, and was expecting a story about Yasuke. Then I watched the trailer. I saw the mech and was like “Okay looks like I’m not watching it.”
The story was given the Green Book treatment. You had an influential black figure (Don Shirley) and made the movie about his racist driver. Here you have Yasuke, and they made it about an annoying little girl with powers.
Thank you for telling it how it is.
I AGREE 100% they didnt do him justice. His real life was more intresting then the shit show they give us.
The mech and magic was kinda out of place very out of place to gave the appeal in right way. The director better be a newbie
@@raynalldoprime i was like why is that even necessary
@@raynalldoprime I could get the magic since this was in ancient Japan, but the mechs GOT to go
Look, I liked the show, it's just that it revolves way too much around the girl, and at least give an explanation on why they have magical mechs, or why the girl has powers. If I personally could change one thing, it would be to add more episodes and give my man Yasuke more attention
I think they briefly passed over why they had mechs, but I don't remember what episode nor do I want to bother 😭. Something to do with them finding the resources or something from fighting back the Chinese I think. I believe Nobunaga said it. (Someone correct me if I'm recalling wrong). But it's like at that point of having such a major technological advance, why even have ground forces?
The story is already good without mecha and magic but why tf would they add those things,if only they focused on realistic side and focused on yasuke's life and story
Why not just adapt the real story of Yasuke? It was already interesting there is no reason to add magic.
yeah they should have gone with realistic route
The fact that they called Yasuke a “servant” instead of a slave just rlly pisses me off
Eh slave would be even more annoying
@@butwhy2237 at least they wouldn’t be sugar coating it tho
@Gage King oh I didn’t even know my bad man. wasn’t he a slave at one point tho or na?
@@snipeplug3579 maybe they dont have a word for slave in Japanese anyway get off the blackmans nuts
@@snipeplug3579 he was until oda took him in.
The problem is the presence of mechas, magic, witches etc I expected something closer to Rourouni no Kenshin than what we actually have
bad story, bad writing
Yasuke could have been pretty good but someone decided that it needed mechs in 1500s Japan lol. Like the magic is pretty alright, it wouldn’t entirely break the immersion if there was a way to tie it with mythology. The people behind the story really went crazy with the fantasy.
I’m only on the 3rd episode but did the mom become irrelevant that quick? does she come back? I’m a little too disappointed to want to continue
The flashbacks are honestly the parts that I enjoyed the most, there wasn’t any mechs in the flashbacks I saw and just people vs people fighting. I really thought we were gonna focus more on Yasuke.
That someone was LeSean Thomas 🤦🏿♂️
I don't think it sucks but I get why they went the fantasy route. There isn't a lot of information about Yasuke so it would be pretty hard to write I kinda wish they focus more on Yasuke tho instead of the girl or villains
Facts bro, they could’ve done better
What is the soundtrack that you can barely hear in the background from 1:00 to 1:31?
I used to watch your DMO videos. Good to see that you're successful with anime content :)
