I think that Naoto would've such a great main character. It would've been a much better and interesting story to follow a smart dude that can travel in time to save his sister.
Expecially one who can defend himself. Plus the age dynamic and his mental age would give it a feel like Erased. Literally the perfect character for it, but we get a cry baby b*tchwith a bad haircut.
Now that you mention, it would be hella interesting to see a smart detective go back in a time filled with delinquents to save his sisters fate.
I don't mind the crybaby stuff, or him not knowing how the fight, but the character is just so stupid... All he does is sit idly by and let shit that he already knows is going to happen, happen...

This is probably the only anime where I care more about the side character's stories than the mc and the main premise. My liking for the show also comes from that.

the whole Tokyo Revengers story makes no sense tbh. there are indeed some cool moments, but in general, it's a stupid story. the MC is just terrible. the villains have terrible and childish motivations (not just Kisaki. you read the manga, right? so you know how childish Izana's reasons were too, even tho people hype him up and say he's TR's best villain lol. he was just a stronger version of Kazutora) and the plot of TR is so damn unreal. they fight for what? is there any epic or acceptable reason for it? no, nothing! they kill for nothing. and I hate the fact that the author has made it normal that 13-14 yo teens in this story are all criminals and even murderers. like, the whole TR cast (even Mikey and Draken aka the best characters) are so abnormal for their age and the mangaka expects us to like them & root for them?! they ALL should go get some therapy (and 50% of them straight to jail) instead of fighting each other's gangs every damn arc, dammit!

24 episodes is too dragged out, a lot of empty space, i hate that Takemichi cant fight at all and i hate that every time before he fights they have to show like 15 cutscenes to inspire and pump him up, its too much time wasted and confusion like they'd have to explain things the characters and we already know then they act like they hear it for the first time.
I got 7 episodes in and immediately got heated with some of these anime fans. They hyped the hell out of this trash. It's even worse than the typical generic shounen. The MC in this anime might be the worst character since Noloty in Book of Bantorra. How is garbage like Tokyo Revengers getting made but we can't get season 2's of anime that actually deserves it.

2. Just wanna share something. My least fav part of the show is the Halloween fight when Takemidchy is flailing his arms, hitting no one nor even coming close to hitting anyone, and screaming “I’ll take you all on” and everyone is just like “wow you really lit a fire under us!” He legit did NOTHING. If I was part of his gang and saw that pathetic display I’d think “Shit man, they got us looking like fools out here we’re definitely losing.”
I swear this show is so damn mid. Mikey’s a badass with an alright backstory but I even think Draken is an overrated character. Yeah he’s a badass too but his (along with so many other people in the show’s) whole character is based on how hard he could suck Mikey off because when he was young he thought Mikey was cool. The fact people say this is peak fiction, say Takebitchi is better than Subaru from Re:Zero, say Mikey could beat Sanji or Goku in a fight. Wiiiiiiiiild. The show is mid regardless but the way people gas it up just adds so much insult to injury. My advice to anyone who wants to watch Tokyo Revengers is to get a head start on it by watching Erased, Re:Zero or Steins Gate and then never actually watching Tokyo Revengers because those 3 shows are all phenomenal with similar concepts and will make you understand this show is genuinely not good.

This anime is dogshit, it starts off good, then tanks super hard, the black dragon arc was the start of this show becoming parody of itself, the Black Dragons lost a 100 v 1… then Taiju gets one shotted lmfaooo, also Kisaki isnt a time jumper trying to fix his own timeline, he’s just a creep that got curved n took it way hard, so hard in fact, that everything he does is to get revenge on the girl that curved him
Another character that I thought was interesting was Kisaki, from seadon1 he seems like a true chess master, plotting & counter plotting every move, eventually becoming the leader of the gang. And he did this because he wanted Hinata? Hinata ain't even top tier waifu material. Fuck Kisaki.
Lmao honestly though his reasons are basically Takemichi's reasons it would of have had been better if Kisaki had a better reason like something to do with actual gangs,Takemichi and Mikey
Before this video I thought Kisaki had a time power, like being able to see into the future. That way we could also find a way to be Tomans leader by looking into the future changing it to his benefit. Also it would explain why he tried to kill takamichi in the future, Kisaki power could show that Takamichi or someone close to him ultimately cause him to lose Toman. So tries to control or kill them, which ironically leads to future he saw coming true.
Kisaki was the best villain in this Manga, His motives were… okay.. But the way he makes his Plans Work and beat a damn time leaper.
No one can defend that kisaki's motivation...hes literally a simp af... many people died just for that ☠️☠️☠️

Okay for me what I hated about the show were these:
1. Time travel. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that. I think Naoto wouldn't have known at all who Takemichi is, because the futures he traveled back to weren't the same as the future he had left from.
2. Takemichi himself. I'm all in for a weak character, don't get me wrong, but I need character development. This guy- he's in a gang, crying all the time and not even considering...wait for it... training more or picking up a skill or something idk. He made no attempt to better himself so far, yet he somehow believes he, an ordinary man with no fighting skills could change the future of a gang, which pretty much is all about fighting. (I've only watched the anime btw)
3. The story felt boring? I don't know why, but I found the show pretty boring and slow. I've watched Erased before and that one was just so interesting with the whole time travel concept and the story. It kept me on my toes, because the main character had a goal, but he didn't know who exactly was the killer in the future (plus he was a literal kid, against an adult) It's weird how a show about gangs, murder etc failed to make me interested at all.
4. The others. I didn't care for most of the characters, they just were there. Draken is probably the only one, but I still feel like I don't know much about him to really really care. When he got "killed" I remember thinking "oh already? That was fast" And this guy was probably my favorite out of the bunch. Baji had things explained about him, but for me it was way too late. The guy died, I wasn't attached to him in any way and these past death flashbacks aren't gonna fix it. It ofc made me understand him better, but it didn't change how little I felt when he died/about his death. Call me cold if you will lol. There wasn't much to the characters, they liked being in a gang and umm- Idk. Did they have any dreams outside of it? Anything interesting?
This review was awesome and pretty much collected all the show's flaws in nice little baggage😂

Putting the unrealistic nature aside, Takemichi is by far one of the most lame protagonists I’ve seen. I don’t understand how he does anything other than create a create a butterfly effect from his change in behavior, that luckily works out for him .

The problem with time travel is the fact that so little can make a huge impact on the timeline there are certain situations that will still happen but circumstances will be different and the reason hinata’s brother will always remember what’s going on because takamichty told him what was gonna happen from the beginning

One of the most annoying things that you didn't mention is when him and Chifuyu find out from the ex mobious leader that Kisaki is the mastermind behind all the messed up shit like Pah's girl getting beat up and Draken getting stabbed, they decide to keep this a secret from Mikey for some reason. Then Bajis whole plan is to take down Kisaki and even his dying words were "Kisaki is the enemy" and yet Takebitchy didn't think that was important at all for Mikey or Draken to know, even though he wants Kisaki kicked out of Toman and Kisaki is literally the reason Hina keeps dying. Talking of Hina, Takebitchy claims to love her and will keep going back in time to get his ass whooped for her sake....yet when he goes to Drakens brothel home and gets mistaken for a customer he gets excited about the prospect of having sex with a random prostitute.... Like Wtf?

I also don't like baji lol, if he really suspected kisaki, they why didn't he just tell Mikey, it also mentioned in the show that all the founding members of toman were once besties, if baji tried to tell him Mikey would have understood it and would have kicked out of kisaki. But instead of using his brain properly, baji instead decides to join the enemy to investigate kisaki, like why instead of all this just frikin go talk to your friend . I also agree with you baji killing himself was completely unessacary, To be honest baji is just rip off eren ( attack on Titan) eren too had ran out of options but he actually used his brain to achieve his goals

I completely agree, I liked a Baji as a character but his way of trying to get Kisaki out of Toman was way too convoluted, like bro, why do ya gotta add 8 steps? Just talk to Mikey, even after what happened to Shinichiro he mostly blames Kazutora. I think it would have made way more sense for Baki’s character if he had just talked to Mikey, as his reason for joining Valhalla as a front was already poorly set up, but him wanting to join to spy on Kisaki was even stupider.

As soon as Draken died and Mikey turned into an emo lunatic in the manga, I dropped it harder than a potato. Ken is a hack of an author who couldn't write a coherent story to save his life.
The power inconsistencies are also off the charts. It was established early on that Mikey is clear of his friends, even Draken since he beat up that middle schooler and scared away his gang who had Draken enslaved back when they were in grade school yet somehow Hanma is able to able effortlessly block a kick from Mikey before struggling with Draken
Obito-Kisaki tanks a full pipe to the head before being revealed to be on the Takewimpy and Shinchiro level of fodder, Shinchiro, Mikey's weak older brother, who instantly died after Kazutora smashed him full pelt with a pipe too. So, how'd Kisaki survive Baji smashing his head with a pipe, too? Because the plot demanded it. Ugh.
TR is a series you turn your brain off and just enjoy Mikey and Draken and the rest of Toman up until the final arc.

I just finished Season one of TK (2 years late I know lol) and all I could think was 'what the fuck was that shit.'
I went online to complain about it like the spiteful bitch I am, but all I see is people talking about how amazing and genius it is? apart from a handful of characters and their designs, I couldn't name one thing I liked about this show. I loved the show, but I agree with all of your points. around ep 8 I started to dislike the mc. he's constantly stands around doing nothing. like come on!!!!!! you literally know what's about to happen before it does and he proceeds to make not plan to fix or resolve a solution other than standing around sulking and talking down to himself. I see his actions as uncaring. like he truly doesn't want to save his gf or any of the other characters with any effort on his part, he just expects it to work out.
I don't see the hype for this show that everyone is giving it. It's basically like Erased, but with fighting.

The biggest problem for manga authors and even western series authors is to think that a "realistic" character has to be a complete asshole and fearful, who cries and screams in fear all the time and does silly things like a failure, in addition to being a social recluse. To think that this is the pinnacle of "realism" is a good reflection of the decadent state of society today. People just see everything as shit, complain about everything and don't want to be better at anything, not even their personal life and find it "realistically normal", and it gets worse when you realize that the reason for this is because the audience is young and this is "real" to them.
This is not portraying reality, and it stopped being a long time ago. This is just maximizing a single bad side of a character and summing it up to practically that, saturating it more and more, with the excuse that it's because it's to be "realistic". A GREAT example of a realistic character is Eren Yeager from Attack On Titan. Realize how Eren EVOLVES along the journey and expands his goals and enters into a personal conflict, but still continues to maintain determination and find the truth about the world he lives. Eren's actions are understandable and we feel the same in moments of tension and happiness. That's being a realistic character, a character that EXISTS, whether in his work or in our world, Eren is REAL, he's PALPABLE.
Takemitchy is just another one of the flawed products of current Shounen protagonists that try to be passively "relatable", but only reflect and stimulate the mentality of always wanting to get used to being a loser, of accepting being a failure and getting nothing in life for as simple as talking to a fucking SINGLE GIRL for example. This is not healthy in any ways, really.
As for the plot, it's just weak. The author does not seem to understand what he wants the work to be. The themes of time travel and gangsters don't mix at all. The theme of gangs shouldn't even be something that relevant to time travel but something apart and that the plot doesn't just get stuck on that and explore other things, but hey, there has to be five more cliché gang fights with Mikey because Tokyo Revenges now seems to revolve around a single character who isn't even the protagonist anymore, and i will not talk about that "Dark Instincs" thing of Mikey, is just fucking dumb and nothing to be, it just exists because yes.

My personal reasons why I think Tokyo Revengers is overrated:
1. The plot is too rushed and unreal.
What is the point of the gang wars? Why do they fight each other? Why don't the parents protect their kids?
2. The characters are hella unrealistic and unrelateable.
Mikey is the good example for this, he's literally a boy version of Mary Sue. He can beat 1000 people without being exhausted and none of his friends can defeat him. Like I know that he is strong because he was trained by his grandpa since 4 year old but that's not a great excuse, he have no flaws and weaknesses, that's what make him unrealistic. Tokyo Revengers is supposed to be realistic because the story takes place in real world(Tokyo, Japan), it's not even fantasy besides the time travel shit. So I personally think Wakui should make one of the characters to be able to beat him, I think Senju has a potential but Wakui just waste it
3. The female characters
This is the reason why I dislike most of the female characters:
- They are sexualized and is used for fan service even though they're a minor(Emma, Yuzuha, Senju)
- None of them can beat the strong male characters. Come on man, give us a female character who can outmuscled Mikey or South. If can't, then just create a female character who actually have a brain and use a strategy to defeat them, and also I want a one female character who have a platonic relationship with the male character(s)
- They get less screen time(Yuzuha, Hinata, Senju, Yumi)
Where is Yuzuha tho? I thought she will come back more op in the final arc.
They destroyed the whole Hinata point, she is supposed to be important to the plot yet she doesn't get a screen time on the final arc
- Their character revolve around men too much and they got no back story about themself only(Hinata, Akane, Senju, Emma)
- They're not important for the plot(Emma, Akane, Yumi)
- They're not well written, besides Yuzuha
- They're only created for the male characters' development or backstory
Senju is created to complete Sanzu's character, Emma only exist for Draken and Mikey, Hinata's whole point is just to be Takemichi's love interest, Akane isn't even alive, Yumi is the same like Hinata
4. The MC himself.

5. The villains.
The villains in Tokyo Revengers are shit, they have a childish motive that isn't tolerable at all, and they aren't even relateable.
- Kisaki killed Hinata because she reject him. Is he stupid or dumb? He barely talks or hang out with her yet he thinks she will accept him?? I thought he's supposed to be smart..
- Izana became ruthless and cruel because he doesn't touch grass for years(He got left alone). C'mon why would he became mentally unstable just because of that? That doesn't even make any fucking sense, at least for me.
- Kazutora blames Mikey even though it's his own fault. Yeah I get that he blames him because of his mental illness from his childhood trauma, but how does that even connect? He's the one who killed Shinichiro, but how does that even connect with his childhood trauma?
- South has no valid reason at all to became a villain
6. Final arc and Bonten Mikey.
Dang, Wakui really thought Mikey would be well written if he destroys his original self. Give me back the old Mikey
7. The dark impulse thing.
I know there's people who will be like "Mikey became emo and cold because of his dark impulse." but that excuse isn't valid, dark impulse doesn't have anything to do with his personality and the way he act, it just make him more cruel and ruthless. It should have not change the fact that he cares for his friends
8. The reason they create a gang.
Now I personally think their motivation to create Toman is just plain stupid. They create it just because they wanted to "conquer the world", that's impossible, no way a bunch of teenagers who doesn't have anything good to do in their life can do that, they should be more realistic and relateable like the other teens in real life and do something that can make their parents proud. All of them are just a bunch of family burden that pretends to be cool and tough
