The Dark and the Wicked was a damn good horror film, super well done. Been into horror since I was 7 or 8 years old and this one gave me some genuine chills.
Think I will check it out. Good title.
Same.
Just finishing your video and I have to say great list! It's people have their likes and dislikes where they may agree or disagree on things but it's great to see horror fans when they get it and understand the horror genre and the films within them work.
You have a lot of newer and casual fans that just see what's on the surface and criticize a lot of these movies due to lack of experience and I'd say partly from not having lived through the times of earlier horror of the 70's - early 90's eras.
Thank you!
Yes please do another one!
My favorites so far not ranked:
1. Recalled 2021 Directed by Seo Yu-min
2. Lamb 2021Directed by Valdimar Jóhannsson. so misunderstood, what happens when you lose your humanity.
3. Silent Night 2021 Directed by Camille Griffin. So relevant of today, subtly ask some serious questions, the right ending.
4. The Innocents 2021 Directed by Eskil Vogt. So dam good on so many levels, foreign movies killing it this year, this might be my number 1 this year.
5. Coming Home in the Dark 2021 Directed by James Ashcroft. Soo dark!
6. The Trip 2021 Directed by Tommy Wirkola
7. Last Night in Soho 2021 Directed by Edgar Wright
8. The Djinn 2021 Directed by David Charbonier, Justin Powell
9. The Swarm 2020/2021 ‘La Nuée’ Directed by Just Philippot. When doing everything for your family goes wrong, excellent.
10. Zack Snyder’s Justice League 2021 Directed by Zack Snyder
Nice Top 10 Mr. Lee
A Lot Of These Movies I Haven't Seen Yet
I Need To Check Them Out
Love these kind of lists. Good video
oh I've been waiting for this one Lee! :)
Nice new new set up Lee. Nice that we agree on the years best horror movie. At least my favorite if not best.
Thank you Jonathan!
The Night House is my number 1 and I wouldn't have even known about it without your channel Lee. Saint Maud comes in a close second. Loved Candyman and Halloween Kills also. Fear Street was a fucking blast.... What a great year for horror.
Thank you Ryan. Night House is incredible.
Halloween kills is definitely my favourite movie of 2021, it doesn't deserve the hate that it is getting, love it from start to finish
I loved the hell out of it.
Halloween Kills - spoiler
I really liked, when the mob was responsible for the death of the wrong guy.
Great list Lee!
Thank you!
Love your list, Lee! Made me remember that this year was a pretty good one for horror. The Dark and the Wicked and Saint Maud were two of my favorites
Yes both were amazing Sara!
I love Halloween Kills. I honestly think it’s a well made movie. Especially with how crazy the movie is. I also love that DGG showed people grieving in this movie. Made it feel real.
I agree, 40% on rotten tomatoes my ass
The C word huh…..I remember when that used to be something very different. Learning from Drumdums.
I wonder if Wrong Turn will be on his top 20
Damn... I got some cathing up to do...
Definitely got to check out "Last Night in Soho"!
Great video and keep up the good content.
Thank you!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews Np!
Awesome list of movies!
Malignant was my biggest surprise this year as well! I had an incredible theater experience
I didn’t get the hype after watching this movie
Titane is definitely my horror film of the year and probably my favorite in general
I really need to see it!
Malignant and Halloween Kills were definitely my favorites this year. Both are just fun and brutal movies to watch. Popcorn movies at their finest.
I like your taste in horror, I agree on a lot of points👏
Thank you Angie!
I went to Last Night in Soho twice.
Keep up the great work lee love the videos
Thank you!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews thank you for all the awesome entertaining videos.
The Fear Street movies are each good films on their own, but what elevates them is that they are great trilogy. You can find a lot of horror trilogies with one excellent movie, or sometimes 2 good entries if you're lucky, but it's a pretty special thing to have the same level of consistent quality from start to finish.
A Quiet Place 2 would be my favorite for the year if I was only picking one movie though. That opening scene is top tier cinema.
It is the year of fan films for me. I loved Rose Blood and It's Me Billy.
I'm looking forward to checking out Roseblood.
Great list , thank you! Also, i miss you making Halloween videos every couple weeks, that was my favorite. Please make more lol.
Nissssssssssssssssssce 🍻
I needs to check out those fear street movies.
Thanks Drumdumbs, I haven't seen or heard of many of these.
Gotta check out that vampire flick on the plane! Huge Train to Busan fan.
I think you will love blood red sky.
hoping to start up a channel of my own soon and your growth over the years as a channel and CZcams personality is super inspiring to me.
and of course, your lists as always are accurate to mine! good taste, Lee :p
Halloween Kills rocks. im glad you defend it too!
Thank you Lucas. Dive in man...and good luck!
I was very pleasantly surprised at Blood Red Sky. I went into it not knowing a thing about it and loved it up to the very end!
Halloween Kills: Great movie! I was so thrilled that they incorporated Donald Pleasance into the movie! And of course, that Jamie Lee Curtis was in it, too.
Yes BRS is amazing!
Antlers and the night house were incredible horrors. There has been a ton of good horrors this year. We didn't deserve this much horror all in one year, but ate it all up.
Censor
Candyman
Halloween Kills
Antlers
The Night House
Malignant
A Quiet Place 2
Saint Maud
Last Night in Soho
Wrong Turn (remake)
In no typical order, all are brilliant movies in their own right
You forgot about FEAR STREET 2
@@MASTERTMUSIC nope, it was shit in my opinion
Halloween Kills was so fun for me. It has obvious issues, but I had a blast watching it. Maybe it's because I was in a packed theater with a bunch of my friends for the first time since 2020 but we got to see Michael at arguably his best and that's all I want in a Halloween movie
Yes Tony! I had a blast with Kills. When he walks out of that burning house, I knew it was ON!
I really enjoyed Malignant awesome movie and I also enjoyed Halloween kills but I prefer H20 and Rob Zombies remake as well as the first Halloween
I thought Halloween Kills was poor as was the 2018 movie. I just stick with the original and original sequel back to back
I still love Psychogorman
Halloween Kills. Thank you for relating the crazy mob mentality to Black Friday sales.
I also love that this Michael was ahead of everyone.
To me, my opinion, as someone who was born in 73 and grew up with this franchise… this Michael freaked me the F out. Brutal and scary - just the way I like him.
Kudos to JJC’s portrayal. 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼
Oh I can't makeup my mind if I want to see THE DARK AND THE WICKED or MALIGNANT. Hell, I will rent them both.Lol
I loved Fear Street Saga! I agree, 1978 was the best of the 3, but it was great, all around! Halloween Kills was fabulous! Hands down, the BEST! 👍🏼
Halloween Kills is my favorite movie of 2021.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Happy to see Halloween at number 1. I absolutely love Kills. Can't wait for the 4k
Dark and the Wicked was so good. Lots of creepy vibes. Had it in my top 10 last year.
Just rented Saint Maud from the video store and I’m hyped to watch it sometime over the next day or two. This video just got me even more eager tbh.
It’s amazing.
Right with you on most of those (couldn't get into Fear Street though). Thanks for your thoughts; great list.
You’re welcome!
PG: Psycho Goreman is the best horror parody film I've ever saw in 2021.
Yeah it was fucking great
Candyman is NUMBER ONE in 2021 nothing else! IMO very underrated slasher! "Bee My Victim!"
I appreciate this list. Great commentary.
Also, thank you standing behind the masterpiece which is Halloween Kills, amidst the fools who wish to senselessly pick it apart and allow it to go over their heads.
Keep up the integral work, sir.👍
Thanks David. I knew I might get some blowback for putting Halloween at number one, but that’s just how I feel. I love the damn movie so much.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews
I look up to you for standing firm.
My hopes are that you do an indepth analysis of Halloween Kills. This would prove to be MOST interesting and I suspect, enlightening, for those who fail the see the jewel placed before them.
Thank you again sir.
Upon viewing your discussion, I feel I did not let any Whoppers get away in 2021. Fabulous and even handed, as usual.
I think you should start just doing honorable mentions for the previous years movies that you got around to watching this year: Saint Maude and the Dark and the Wicked would be the examples from your list for this year
I like that idea.
Pretty good list I didn’t see much movies this yr but also LOVE Wrong Turn reboot early this yr was really well done easily rivals with the OG. I still need to see Candyman 2021 and Halloween Kills I intended to also LOVE the Chucky series saw all of S1 8 eps I was hooked from start to finish, it succeeded where the 2019 reboot spectacularly failed better in every way and best continuity of a franchise since Cobra Kai to Karate Kid right up there would love to know your thoughts on it maybe review the series for me that is the best thing I got into this yr. The number 2 spot movie on your list I haven’t heard of but look freakin beautiful I have a thing for arts and colors coming from a Giallo lover and the story itself sounds really OG and innovative gets my vote thank you for sharing it I certainly must check it out!!!
Some I haven't seen but look forward to like Night in Soho. The cinematography I saw of it in preview caught my attention alone. Though I didn't care for it the cinematography slightly reminds of how some scenes were done in IT Follows. I liked all on the list here I've seen maybe except for A Quiet Place 1 & 2. Not that it's a bad film but I think just having seen so much horror and so many like it, it just felt like a generic Sci-Fi horror. I don't know it was just like a bland variant of The Walking Dead except with monsters instead of zombies.
Very cool, thanks for sharing this video! I also really really enjoyed the movie Halloween Kills. Awesome movie and great music in this movie!
Thank you Brad!
Absolutely! Does anyone here know which digital platform has the special features (director commentary, deleted scenes, etc.) for Halloween Kills? The Amazon Prime version does not include the special features, though it does include the extended cut, which is cool.
Here is my top 10:
10. Fear Street 1994
9. The Dark and the Wicked
8. Night House
7. The Conjuring the Devil Made Me Do It
6. Candyman
5. Malignant
4. Halloween Kills
3. Army of the Dead
2. Last Night in Soho
1. A Quiet Place Part II
Good list fam
My faves this year have to be Halloween Kills, Candyman, It's Me, Billy, Old and Spiral.
But none of them would make my list for top horror movies in general.
Top five horror: Fear Street 1994
Escape Room Tournament
Fear Street 1666
There's someone inside your house
Spiral
Haven't got to Halloween, Malignant, Soho or Candyman yet though I want to
Blood Red Sky I enjoyed but not a fave
Hell yeah 🎃 Halloween kills and last night in soho were awesome 👏
Don't have a top 10 because this year was just not all that good but my 4 favorite horror films this year were
A Quiet Place Part 2
Candyman (problems yes, good yes)
Malignant
Wrong Turn Remake
Wrong Turn remake is really good
The dark and the wicked is top 3 to me
Fear Street had a very slow start - the 2nd episode is good but the ending ruins it all. The villain makes no sense at all. Like they had a director who did the beginning and the middle and then a 5 year old made the ending. It´s just so bad.
I like the list!! A few honorable mentions... Lamb, The Innocents, The Advent Calendar, Antlers, and The deep House are ones to watch!! cheers
Loved the deep house. I thought i was the only person to watch it.
Horror this year kicked ass!
Great list brother I loved most of these. I would like to be annoying real quick and say Fear Street & Halloween Kills didn't hit me right. Maybe I took it too serious? I'll give a shot again though. Everything else is incredible like The Night House ,& The Dark & The Wicked my God did I love those. I need to see Redblood Sky and Violation. Once again I always appreciate your take on horror.
Yeah both of those were pretty polarizing among audiences.
I don't understand why people hated Malignant. It's not too scary, but it's definitely fun. And the twist isn't stupid as many say.
Me neither!
My top are
1.Antlers
2. Last night in soho
3. Halloween kills
4.malignant
5. Candyman
6. The night house
7. A quiet place 2
8. The forever purge
9. Book of saw
10. Resident evel
I know most people hated the last few. I just love bad horror movies what can I say
Good list. I like St Maud and The Night House the best out of these
Even though we are not always on the same page, it's always fun to watch your videos.
And i liked, that you put "Blood Red Sky" on your list - i really liked the movie, especially because we don't very often get good german Horror-Movies.
Maybe some more folks will watch it because of you ; )
Yes I love differing opinions.
I thought dark and wicked was 2020?
Love your Top 10, great job
Hey Mr. DD also, got a review request. Not sure if you have not done it yet is "Brightburn"
I’ve reviewed Brightburn. Excellent film.
Lee my friend, I loved this list! I have to agree with you on Halloween Kills. One thing I will say that I loved so much is that it showed that there was two monsters in Haddonfield that night. It was brutal, unforgiving and I was cheering all the way!!!
Yes Hayley! Great analogy. 2 monsters indeed.
Last thing I want to mention is Halloween Kills. There's some good but also a lot of negative feedback from fans. That goes back to what I was saying about newer and casual fans having not experienced the great era of horror films. They see that the film is made in 2021 so they deem it sorely as a new age film. It doesn't register just like it didn't with Halloween 2018 that these films were made to look and feel like the older films of the past though set in current times. So like in Kills especially it doesn't register with them that Halloween was never really glamorized with a large cast of A list actors. I think the point was at first their budget but then making the film look more natural with normal people and not a lot of recognizable celebrity faces. They don't think about some of the hokey characters in the previous installments starting with the original with characters like Lynda and Annie that were 30 year olds playing teenagers. Then other hokey characters like Bucky in H4 so characters such as Ray and Tommy Doyle being played by Hall get criticized.
That and a few maybe overly dramatic moments plus constant chants of "Evil Dies Tonight!" are all secondary an not all that important to focus on to use to criticize the film.
The whole point as it states in the very title of the movie itself is Michael Myers and the kills. We first see the aftermath of Laurie and how the encounter with Michael has taken a toll on her life. Seeing Michael escape and at her door makes her paranoia true for her. In Kills we learn that Laurie is not Michael's focus but mainly it's about something new which is an uncensored Michael reeking havoc on Haddonfield. There's not much of the lurking to only see brief moments of mild violence or off screen kills.
What? No way. First quiet place is way better than second one in my opinion. I was let down by second one big time. It was ok. It started off strong but when it ends , I was like thats it? Wow really
The deep house wins the award for found-footage horror movie of the year....edit: I wasn't a big fan of the Halloween movie.
Solid list we can agree to disagree on Malignant lol
Agree with your top 2 I'd have a quiet place 3...little disappointed you've only seen kills 3 times lol...the score definitely grew on me didn't like it first watch but love it now!
My top 10:
1. Saint Maude
2. The Columnist
3. Last Night in Soho
4. The Boy Behind the Door
5. Psycho Goreman
6. Candyman
7. Censor
8. Blood Red Sky
9. Halloween Kills
10. Malignant
Note: Haven't seen Quiet 0lace 2
Great list. I need to check out The Columnist.
Great job lee. My favorites are.
1. Halloween kills
2. A quiet place 2
3. Malignant
4. Candyman
Haven't seen last night in Soho yet but I'm going to soon.
Yeah but the end of St Maud unintentionally is funny because when you see her on the beach in her mind she's just this angelic figure. But in reality she was screaming her head off because she found out that fire yes indeed hurts. Especially when your body is covered in it.
Just watched Soho last night…freaking amazing. Visually stunning and some great scares. At the time of writing this there has been some debate about Texas 2022 and if it’s “woke.” If you ask me, going by the true definition of the word woke. Soho is a woke film. It brilliantly tells the story of two female characters who both are being oppressed…one by the male hierarchy in the entertainment industry and another because of her mothers past history of mental illness. It’s told in such a unique way that it’s not in your face. It drags you in. Making it a great watch
It's a beautifully directed movie.
Why I'm not surprised with your number one horror movie Lee? LOL!
Please check out The Boy Behind the Door. I'll have my Top 10 Best list out by this weekend.
Never heard of that one Monty. I’ll check it out.
Nice list. Blood Red Sky, Malignant and The Night House would've been my top three. I'm not sure if Hunter Hunter was a 2021 release, but if it is, then it's on top.
I have not seen your HM picks and wasn’t a fan of Blood Red Sky, but I enjoyed everything else on your list. A Quiet Place 2 is my fave, but Rebecca Hall had my fave performance in Night House. There’s a Thai horror film on Shudder called The Medium which I would put on my list.
Thanks, great list Lee! Will check some of these out this week!
#TheLastHorrorMovie
Did you see Antlers Drumdums? I’m looking forward to seeing it.
Yes! Excellent.
The Night house and Lamb were amazing. Antlers was cool too. Haven’t seen Last night in soho yet. Really disappointed with Halloween Kills.
ive never had a really positive effect from a movie like last night in soho did, it stuck with me after, still does😁❤️🔥i love thomasin McKenzie, she did a phenomenal job
Yeah it's amazing.
Dark and the Wicked is underrated - that film is cold & raw! So glad you included Malignant high up there! My top one was Last Night in Soho!
Hell yeah!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews I had a smile on my face the entire time during the flashback dream sequences. That it how you approach nostalgia!
Not gonna lie I wasn't really in love with Halloween 2018, but I eventually got over my hang ups with the overall plot (writing for the male characters still feels like a different movie to me) Kills on the other hand for me was far better. I also didn't understand how people reacted to the mob; I mean it takes place the same night where half the town had been drinking at a talent show. As a retired Felon I can tell you there have been nights where me and to fellas were drinking and one thing led to another now there's entire hoods fighting over nothing so that mob in Halloween Kills behaved the way alcohol filled, afraid, angry people would.
Saw your reply and came to see the video if you still got Shudder give "For the sake of Vicious" a looksee even if you don't find it review worthy, I think you may enjoy the ride... it goes bonkers in the 3rd.
Yes I much preferred Kills Randall.
Last Night In Soho/Halloween Kills/Candyman/Malignant and Conjuring 3 would be my top picks for horror this year
I do look forward to that horror movie Sound of Violence.
I predicted exactly what the top 3 would be 😁.....Last Night in Soho was my favourite along with Malignant in my opinion.
Great list but I still haven’t seen 3 of them. My favorite this year was Malignant.
When you mentioned Candyman I agree 100% that it was a great film! I've seen some older horror fans that can be more on the casual side for not understanding things say things like it was a movie to make white people look bad. 🤦🏻♂️
When I see comments like that I think to myself have they seen the original and understand the story at all? That and like you mentioned saying that the film was "woke" 🙄. That is true that people start using a certain word(s) and it be comes a popular word that's used so often that most who you use it use it out of context and don't understand the meaning.
The story as shown in the original explains it all. This film doesn't really copy the original but expands on it as there is more to the evil spirit than we thought. And the same story kind of plays out again because of the one character pulling the strings that is revealed to have evil intentions of creating a new Candyman.
The o
In my opinion, my favorite horror movie of the year has to go to Malignant.
I love the movie Malignant
Love the video Lee! I didn’t actually see 10 horror movies that released in 2021, I only saw 4, but I’ll add my list of the top 10 horror films I watched for the first time in 2021 😂
10. Killer Workout (1988)
9. Cheerleader Camp (1987)
8. Fear Street Part 3 - 1666 (2021)
7. Candyman (1992)
6. Alien (1979)
5. Fear Street Part 2 - 1978 (2021)
4. Fear Street Part 1 - 1994 (2021)
3. Unmasked Part 25 (1988)
2. Halloween Kills (2021)
1. Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Halloween Kills would honestly be among the worst films of 2021 and I am very concerned for Halloween Ends! Here is my top horror films of the year!
1. A Quiet Place Part 2
2. Ghostbusters Afterlife
3. Last Night In Soho
4. Antlers
5, Don't Breath 2
I think Covid has inspired darker horror movies. Hard to find something that we’re more afraid of now
Haha very true.
My List:
1. Halloween Kills and Chucky series 1
2. Halloween Kills (the extended cut)
3. Halloween Kills trailer
4. Malignant
5. Don't Breathe 2
6. Army of the dead
7. The Forever Pruge
8. Blood Red Sky
9. Escape Room: Tournament of champions
10.Great White
I will have fun again with the worst 2021 horror movies :)
I'd add Empty Man and remove Candyman and Halloween. I haven't seen any others yet 😆
Seriously Candyman was a disgrace. Since when is he a folk hero going around saving Black people? Remember Bernadette from the original? She even wimps out, won't say his name the 5th time and Candyman still butchers her. And that slow kid who got castrated in the Cabrini bathrooms? He only kills White people in the new movie, and the main character Anthony was loathsome! When he hears there's been 2 murders at his exhibition, the murder of his business manager and his manager's gf, he's actually amused by it, which made me feel like "This is not a good guy!" It made him immediately unsympathetic and for the rest of the film. Then they move or try to shift the protangonist role onto the GF character... Remember that scene when the GF character flashes back to her Vietnam dad's suicide? What did that have to do with like any-freaking-thing at all? 🤷♂️
The gore was non-existent save for one throat slash but while invisible. The ending was so preachy, paper thin, cheesy and TV like, giving me the same vibe as how horribly Dexter ended. I could go on and on. The more I think about it, the more depressing it feels. It's like they were trying to make a pilot episode for a new Candyman series, but realized it could never fly so they just tacked a 20min ending on and called it a "Spiritual Sequel". That pisses me off almost as much as "Woke" talk. Tonally it was so far off! Poorly written packed with inappropriate attempts at humor almost like they hired Joss Whedon to punch up the dialog before he was cancelled.
Halloween was just, I mean they may as well have chained Myers to the bottom of a lake at the end of Kills. Much better than Candyman sequel, with excellent gore and kills but it felt like nothing but a placeholder for the next movie, like X-Men 2. It left me so cold, and only an immortal could take a pitchfork to the lungs and shake it off like a Voorhees. They need to just burn that house down. I enjoyed both of Rob Zombie's versions more than these new ones.
I almost put Empty Man on here but it actually came out in 2020.
I kept fast forwarding at the end, because I thought you were just trolling before you revealed #1.
Nope. This guy just really liked Halloween Kills 🤣
I fucking love it.
Antlers beats candyman for me
I agree. I forgot to put Antlers on the list haha. It's on Part II.
