Favorite horror movies of 2022
-X
-Pearl
-Men
-Crimes Of The Future
-Nope
-Bodies Bodies Bodies
-Barbarian
-The Hatching
-The Black Phone
-Scream 5
"You won't be alone" is the one on your list which surprised me the most. At first I was annoyed by the obvious Terrence Malick-style voice over, but then I realized it was important for the story because every time she changes body, we can still hear her thoughts. Impressive cinematography, despite the limited budget. Also, the village and the costumes felt very real and lived in.
Loved this movie, it was beautiful
I really enjoyed it too, I just wish Noomi Rapace herself was in the film a little bit more.
Always be honest about your horror opinions, itâs why we love your channel!
Smile was such a good surprise, I agree: It's not "commercial" horror, it's a good story and the final arc is so good
Smile was fun AH. It proved that sometimes originality isnât as important as how the filmmakers tell a horror story.
Smile was a nice surprise. The trailer made me cringe and it turned out sooo good.
Itâs so interesting seeing how different every ones top ten is of the year itâs been an unreal year for horror and yesss Iâd love to see your non horror top ten. Thanks for making such great content for us all year â€â€
Thank you for all the support Lara
I personally think this was a great year for movies. Iâve seen dinner really groundbreaking films this year.
Good list. I never saw âmad dogâ. Iâm surprised you didnât have âpearlâ on your top ten. âMenâ was terrible! Do you see âspeak no evilâ????? Amazing horror film! I promise you that you will LOVE it!
Yeah, lots of great horror this year. X is pretty consistently at or near the top of every list, tho. Itâs just wonderful. Also, thanks for not healing praise on Terrifier 2 and putting it on your list. Itâs a great story about a successful crowd funding and an independent filmmaker realizing his dream, but the film itself was just totally mediocre
I LOVE that you included âYou wonât be aloneâ. It was in my top list too but I never hear anyone talk about it. Itâs such a great movie.
Hii
My number one for 2022 is unequivocally The Black Phone. It brought coming of age horror to a new level and just gave us an amazingly engrossing story. Plus, Madeline McGraw is phenomenal! She stole literally every scene she was in.
X is a close second. I've seen it seven times and can't get enough of it.
I loved black phone!!
I loved the black phone!! It had everythingâŠterror, sadness, moments that made me laugh; just overall it was a really good film.
X is a masterpiece!
Glad X and Barbarian made it on here. Havenât seen Smile yet, but Iâve been meaning to.
Merry Christmas Emma.
Non-horror list would be very welcome.
Merry Christmas Emma. You are very appreciated.
Just got the Smile Blu-ray & it seemed even spookier than in the cinema.
I love this top 10 list. Was pleasantly surprised how many were better than expected! Loved the stories and getting to know the characters with this batch. Still looking forward to next year's offerings though, and would definitely love a non-horror list if you're offering. Great job! Thanks
What I love about your videos is that you are always open about what you like regardless of what critics or fans love or hate.
I feel like a lot of peopleâs opinions are based on what is popular to say.
Feeling like youâre genuine and donât follow the crowd is so fantastic and refreshing, thank you!
Thank you so much that means alot to me
happy holidays Emma! thanx so much for your contributions to my year.
Loved this vid! Always love the year wrap-ups (horror and not). I loved so many of these, but I'm so glad you mentioned You Won't Be Alone. That one gripped me, it was so unique. Happy New Year!
Thanks so much for sharing your favourites this Christmas Eve, Emma! Merry Christmas, and cheers to you for providing us the best CZcams horror content this year :)
Same to you!! â€ïžâ€ïž
I love how your list is so many different movies and not all the top Hollywood movies!! I need to watch barbarian Iâve heard nothing but good thingsâ€ïž also merry Christmas Emma thanks for another amazing year
I look forward to your reviews, youâre one of the only horror reviews channels that I canât wait for the next video to release. Keep up your awesome work and true to yourself personality. XO
Because of Fresh: Daisy Edgar Jones deserves an oscar for that scene when she is waking up after he drugged her. When his mask falls and she slowly realizes the situation. I could feel her increasing fear, the increasing levels of adrenaline in her blood, and her disappointment in him. With every second she gets closer to hyperventilating during these 3 minutes. Seriously - this is terrific acting.
Rebecca Hall is a really underrated actor! The Awakening is one of my favourite gothic horrors. I would love to see a non-horror top 10 list!
She is amazing.
Oooh have you seen The Night House with Rebecca Hall? I think you'd like it if you haven't seen yet!
@@HayGurlHay yes, I have! I really enjoyed it.
@@HayGurlHayNight House was probably my fav of 2021
The Gift is a great film
Merry Christmas Emma đâ€ïžđ always wonderful to see your videos, I have lost count how many of your recommendations I ended up loving, thank you so much.
great list emma, wishing you all the best for 2023,keep those great reviews comingâŁ
Thanks for the List and Video đ
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays.
"You won't be alone" imo is one of the best films I've seen in a very long time, in so many ways. there was at least one part that had me in tears, its a very special movie, i love it so much!!!! im so glad it made your list (and almost in the top 3 :D ) also "Fresh" was soooo good!!! loved it so much!!
This was a great year for cinema, horror and otherwise. Lots of debuts, new talent and fresh takes. Loved Fresh, Resurrection, Bones and All and Barbarian as well! Happy holidays, Emma!
I love hearing you speak with such passion and enthusiasm. It makes me like all of these movies even more!
X, Barbarian, and You Wonât Be Alone are my standouts. And Mad God. Honorable mentions that actually scared me (besides Barbarian) are Incantation and Speak No Evil.
Thanks for another spooky year!
Thank you mark!!!!
UnscriptedâŠWow, great job. Thanks so much Emma for another year of great insight into the genre we love and your horror recommendations. I hope you and Dean have a Wonderful Holiday and Iâm looking forward to another year of great horror with you giving us some insight into whatâs coming next. Merry Christmas đ
You always recommend the best movies Emma. I canât wait to check these out this weekend :)
Thank you for all your hard work and input this year Emma! You are the only go-to reference for me. My three favorite horror movies of the year were Allegoria, Soft & Quiet and Terrifier 2.
Oh my, Soft and Quiet!!!!! Now that was horrifying đł
Just wanted to leave a comment to say I was so excited when I saw you posted this video! I agree on many of your opinons in general so it was an amazing video! (and I'd very much like to watch your non horror top 10), I'm relatively new to horror but I think my favorite is Nope, it's SO beautifully made. I only watched it once tho, so I'm curious now hahahah. Anyway, keep doing what you do cause it's so amazing, you always have interesting films to talk about (last film I watched was Soft and Quiet, cause you talked about it, and wow). Happy Holidays!
I would love to see your top ten non-horror movies of the year! You are one of my favorite CZcamsrs because you are so straight forward and honest about your opinions. I would love to hear more. Merry Christmas! đ

Same to you!
Cool list. âNopeâ was so fantastic. Iâve seen it twice and will probably watch it again. Yes, you need to see âWavesâ. Itâs great. Have a Happy New Year!
Happy Holidays Emma!
I would love to see your top 10 non-horror!
My current top horror of 2022:
1) Scream - incredibly biased but it meant so much to me and Iâve watched it 6 times this year.
2) The Menu
3) Bones and All
4) Bodies Bodies Bodies.
5) Nope
6) Fresh
7) X
8) Barbarian
9) The Black Phone
10) Pearl
Glad to see Bones and All on this list. Great film
Cool to see love for Bones and All!
Gonna check these out. Watched The Black Phone and I loved it!
I agree with 99% of ur list. When I first watched barbarian, OMG I HATED IT! Itâs maybe my least fav horror movie
That was actually EXCITING. Cheers! Merry Christmas from me and Dawn đ
Mine...
10. Hellbender
9. The Innocents
8. Bones and All
7. Men
6. Pearl
5. X
4. The Menu (ehh...Letterbox says it's horror, so who am I to argue)
3. Barbarian
2. Nope
1. You Won't Be Alone (my favorite film overall this year and I'm so glad I was able to see it in the cinema)
You Won't Be Alone is so fantastic; it's my #5 in the current top 10 I'm working on
turned into 20 (horrors and horror-adjacent thrillers):
1. Nope
2. You Are Not My Mother
3. The Batman
4. Banshees of Inisherin
5. You Won't Be Alone
6. The Wonder
7. Prey
8. Soft and Quiet
9. The Apology
10. Something in the Dirt
11. Speak No Evil
12. Resurrection
13. Blood Relatives
14. Saloum
15. We're All Going To The World's Fair
16. What Josiah Saw
17. Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio
18. Barbarian
19. Men
20. Wendell & Wild
honourable mentions (also loved!):
Lamb -- an incredibly poignant Icelandic folktale about a grieving farming couple who give birth to a literal lamb, to me a poignant metaphor about how we throw ourselves into our mundane everyday in order to cope with grief, find meaning in it, and life after it; an appropriate mix of the absurd and the emotional
Incantation -- a Taiwanese found-footage film foregrounding authentic belief around motherhood and generational curses; even as I write this description I'm hearing ghosts asking me why it didn't make the top 20
Hellraiser 22 -- Jamie Clayton, a trans woman, makes the best and most authentic Pinhead here, and the movie is visually dazzling; however (and I hate to be that girl, but) parts of it were little over-long, dull and a bit muddled
The Northman -- sorry Robert, I love you but just... not quite this time bro; Robert Eggers, one of my very favourite film directors, skillfully rights many of the wrongs of previous Viking content, but just doesn't go quite hard enough for me
The Last Thing Mary Saw -- technically a 2021 movie with a wide release this year, folk horror, can't remember much detail but the atmosphere was memorable, and Rory Culkin's in it; can't go wrong, bish bash bosh
I look forward to these lists every year because it inspires what I will watch after the holidays! My faves this year were Fresh and Nope, and I liked Barbarian and X. Iâll be adding several of these to my list of post-holiday viewing. Thanks!
For me:
1. Terrifier 2
2. Pearl
3. Barbarian
4. Bones and All
5. The Black Phone
6. Nope
7. Bodies Bodies Bodies
8. X
9. Smile
10. The Menu
Thanks Emma. Picked up some new recommendations from you as usual, you're a deadset aussie champ.
When you commented that Gaspar Noe was one of your favourite directors I knew this channel mirrored my cinematic sensibilities. One of the highlights of 2022 was discovering Spooky Astronauts. I went to see Barbarian, Smile, and The Menu solely based on your recs for those movies. Absolutely loved the first two. Still need to catch up with a couple films, but my top 3 would definitely be the same as yours, probably 1) nope 2) Barbarian 3) X. All 3 of those films were so fun and brought something new to the horror genre. Bones & All was absolutely beautiful as well. And yes, please see âWavesâ. It is a beautiful, fantastic flick. Cheers. Thank you for shining a light on horror & dark cinema. See you in 2023.
Thank you so much, glad we align !
the rape scene in irrreversible is incredible, gives me goosebumps
Thanks for your list!
Excellent video! I've seen a few of these, but will check out all the others. They sound/look great! Thank you.
Thank you!
Merry Christmas Emma đ xx
Had a great time seeing Barbarian over Halloween weekend. Probs my fave this year
Thanks for including Bones and All. It really impressed me, but a lot of folks don't seem to have been picking up on it. Such a commentary on otherness.
I was so blown away by You Won't Be Alone. I bawleddddddd. so beautiful
Would love love to hear your other non- horror top 10! As every year. I donât have a full top 10 of Horror this year but my 5 or Horror/ Suspense such
5. Beast
4. Donât Worry Darling
3. Scream
2. Smile
1. Barbarian
I watched 9, 7, 6, 4, 3, and 1 this year. Loved them all! Great channel, thanks for all the hard work!
Love this list, it is so thoughtful and representative You Wont Be Alone is my favorite of the year, we would love and need to see your top non horror of the year!!
Loved Men!! đ So glad it made your top 10!
I'm going to check out all of these movies. Thanks for making the list for us!
Great list, Emma! Barbarian was my no. 1.

3. Pearl
2. Barbarian
1. Nope
titane and saint maud fought for my first place last year. this yearâs mad overwhelming. havenât ranked my best bets yet. but i know for sure X is my top 1!
Titane was released last year for me so it was it my list in 2021! Loved it
I am living for this list!
I tell everyone to watch You Won't Be Alone. I describe it as an adventure horror about self discovery and learning what it means to be human that reads like a poem. Beautiful movie.
You're so absolutely lovely! Thanks for sharing your love of horror movies. Cheers.
Thanks for watching
If you haven't seen it yet, you can almost have your dream of Kiki Palmer in a Scream film by watching Scream Queens (sadly it only has two seasons)
And Keke was also in season 3 of the scream tv show.
My top ten are
1. Nope
2. X
3.Pearl
4. Barbarian
5. Bones and All
6. Watcher
7. Resurrection
8. The Menu
9. Fresh
10. Nanny
Awesome picks! There's a few films on here that I fully concede are just not for me, despite acknowledging the amazing craft and beautiful storytelling involved. Films I appreciate more than I personally vibe with đ And a bunch I really love too! I'm hoping to cram in a bunch more before the end of the year before I do my list.
Think Watcher was my fave, fresh was fun and Smile moved me the most; felt like watching a Japanese horror. Thankfully still have a few to discover over Christmas - yes do a non-horror / wackadoo top ten please. Merry Christmas!
What a great list, I'm so proud of myself for guessing your number one pick! These are my Top 10 horrors of this year:
10 - Smile
9 - Barbarian
8 - X
7 - Nope
6 - Pearl
5 - The Innocents (kinda toeing the line between being a 2021 or 2022 release, but it was only released in my country this year so I'm counting it)
4 - Hellraiser (absolutely surprised how much I loved this one)
3 - Watcher
2 - Speak no evil
1- Bones and All (absolutely blew me away and I haven't stopped thinking about it)
I have yet to watch Resurection and You won't be alone so maybe those will change my top 10 in the future
I have been waiting for this since entire year
Going to check few of these for sure
Love! Will you do a non horror list?
I havenât seen Black Phone yet, but my top ten are
1. Pearl
2. Nope
3. Hatching
4. Men
5. Fresh
6. Smile
7. Bodies, Bodies, Bodies
8. X
9. Barbarian
10. Scream
great list; I added a few to mine. Merry Xmas. Stay spooky!
I watched You wonât be alone because of your recommendation, and you were right on! Excellent film! Done so well!
Never apologize for keeping it real.
Nice list! Ty so much! Haven't watched all of them because some are not available where I am. But I'll keep them on my list! I LOVED Men. Exactly my kind of movie, stunning scenes, excellent lead actress, weird, surrealistic. It was a bit slow but so much details to look for. The end blew my mind. As some said in their comments, Rebecca Hall is a fantastic actress. I know that everything she's in is good. So I'll search for the movie you recommended ( forgot the tittle) .
That final scene from Men will haunt me.
Merry Christmas đđ
How did Pearl not make it?
Great review đČđđ€¶đ
I remember hearing about the production of Barbarian and that it starred Bill Skarsgard and Justin Long, but it wasn't on my radar for the longest time. Then I saw your review before it premiered and immediately prioritized a viewing. Caught it in a Dolby theater on opening night and was blown away. It's rare that a horror film actually scares me and I fondly remember how fun it was to squirm in my seat as Georgina Campbell steps into that dark hallway. Thank you for directing me towards that experience!
And X is the ultimate slasher! I truly can't decide between X and Pearl. They're two sides of the perfect horror coin to me.
X and Pearl were trash. They haven't even written the ending to the story, clearly a cash grab with a strong female lead. They'll turn the story into whatever is trendy. 2022 things.
Would love your list of nonhorror!
Horror has been SO GOOD this year!!! Almost everything I've seen I've loved.
OH MY GOD! Putting X first gives me so much satisfaction and justice to the film! I think it was my favorite horror of 2022 as well! I'm still obsessed with it!
Loved this so much! Felt exactly the same about Barbarianâ€ïžđđœ I immediately knew the song at the credits and was like YESSS how perfect hahha
Always want your top 10 non horror movies too!
5:30 I really liked Men too. That whole rebirthing scene is what got me. Loved!
Great list!
Great Video đ
Great list! Have some I need to check out there. Thought Men was absolutely fantastic and easily one of my favourite horrors of recent years.
For me Speak No Evil, Resurrection, and Terrifier 2. Also Gone in the Night- really cool indie thriller.
2022 was an amazing year for HORROR FILMS. Two made my TOP 10 FILMS OF THE YEAR- X and PEARL. But loved BARBARIAN, HATCHING, MEN and even BODIES BODIES BODIES. Keep them coming!!!
What a year for horror!!
For me itâs
1. Werewolf By Night
2. Scream 5
3. Terrifer 2
4. X 9.4
5. Pearl
6. Barbarian
7. Hellraiser
8. Prey
9. Smile
10. The Menu
To understand what makes Nope and Us so so good is to love finding all of the little details upon rewatch that just show that peele is one of us who appreciates the amazing classics of the past while bringing something fresh to the table. The gorgeous filmmaking. And the fact it comes from peele who I thought was just a big goof ball comedian before heâs mad 3 back to back near masterpieces. Just my opinion.
Yes, we need a top non-horror list!
I always love seeing other peopleâs favourites â€
NEW VIDEO - WEâRE HERE FOR IT!!! *UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ*

Would LOVE to see your non-horror top 10!
I haven't seen all the movies I want to watch so I can't do a top 10, but I did love Men, Resurrection and Nope (talking about the ones you said were not loved by most)
