  • Quick video tutorial on how to change the main hose on DC17 Dyson. It can be a challenge to pull the hose thru and replace it. all you need of course is the new hose and a flat head screwdriver! This will work on DC17 Animal, absolute or any DC17 Models.

    This is the best vacuum I've ever owned, I've had it for nearly 16 years and this is the first part I've ever had to replace. Thanks for your video, I was staring at it like a monkey doing a math problem.

    You don't have to take the end off at all.... Remove the canister and it allows you to slide the top end of the hose through the slot, although it's a snug fit it does go through without all that trouble and chance to poking a hole in your new hose.

    After watching this, I realize I don’t need a new hose. I need the part you remove at the top of the hose (at around 3:00). I didn’t realize it was a separate part until I watched this so thank you!

    My wand gets stuck a few inches into pulling it out. It takes wayyy too much force to be able to get it a few inches. I tried your method and the actual tube part doesn’t budge either. It’s just stiff all around. Very frustrating when I’m trying to clean

    • @TheHomeImprovementChannel
      @TheHomeImprovementChannel  Před měsícem

      Something might be caked in there causing it to be tight. Did you look inside the hose to see if there's anything in there that would be causing a problem?

    It seemed a lot safer to disconnect the top portion of the hose by entering the cowl from the top to pry off the lower portion of the hose. Less chance of damaging the hose.

    Before you try replacing the main hose...have you tried turning your top power cord hook upside down? That's a preventative feature so that you don't tangle / yank the power cord. @1:08 you can see that the cord hook is still upright when it shouldn't be.

    • @TheHomeImprovementChannel
      @TheHomeImprovementChannel  Před 3 lety

      Hello. Seems like all that will do is help you get the cord off the reel a little faster. If the hose has a hole in it, I don't think this will help much except that you can get the cord out of the way a little faster. Thanks for the tip..

    • @KevinPatton

      @@TheHomeImprovementChannel On my DC17 it locks the handle in place. Once I turn it upside down, the handle easily comes out and I can use the accessories.

    How do I know I need a new hose? should i assume because its stuck i need s new hose?

    • @TheHomeImprovementChannel
      @TheHomeImprovementChannel  Před 4 lety

      Yes, obviously if the hose is full of holes, but on this particular vacuum the hose didn’t pull out very well..stuck is similar, so it could be a hose..I can’t verify that without seeing it, so you’ll have to make your best judgment call

      @@TheHomeImprovementChannel It was the spring. I used white lithium grease, spayed the area near red button, the groove on the silver hose, and the springs near roller. Works like a champ.
