  • The lifetime filter is a myth. Servicing them will restore original suction to your sweeper. you can clean them for free, but if you prefer to buy new ones, these are a good deal.

I have owned my dc-17 since maybe 2005? I used it for years without cleaning the prefilter until my FIL showed me it was there LOL. I was today years old when I learned there is another filter! I had no idea, and my husband and I just took our DC-17 apart yesterday and cleaned EVERYTHING. Or I thought everything! But I located it and when I pulled it out my hepa filter it wasn’t even that dirty, surprisingly. I sucked it clean with my shop vac, I’m not even replacing it. I cannot find a replacement flicker strip anywhere. Mine broke off. Thank you for this video!

Well, how about that. That was so easy, I think even I could do it. Thanks for making it look so simple

the bottom seal has moved up which will cause the filter to get dirty faster, it needs moving back down :)

The hepa filter has to be pushed in towards the motor to get a seal

I have very low vacuum at the wand. Would one of these 2 filter be the cause of very low vacuum at the Wand?

It could, but i would closely inspect the flex hoses and the elbow for damage or clogs

@@darylturcott I fixed the problem. In the back of the lower section there is a "U" shape tube with a lock latch holding it in place. I removed it and it was
loaded with crap. Cleaned it and now everything is working perfectly. I also cleaned the filter with water but that wasn't the problem. It was that "U' shape
piece of plastic pipe. The pipe is held in place with the same type of latch that holds the bottom plate where the roller brush is located. I got lucky, I was concerned
it would be the multiple tubes at the top of the clear air filter where all the dirt goes.

The dry filter I bought with the Amazon link seems a bit bigger. Got it in bit had to force it. Seemed to be warm after running the vacuum.... anyone else have this occur?

I noticed lid was a little harder to close, but no heating issues. If its running hot you probably should return it and try a dyson brand part. Im going to start recommending dyson parts exclusively, i just had an issue with a dust bin i bought.
