Nintendo Switch OLED Review

- The Nintendo Switch OLED is a more impressive update than you'd expect thanks to the gorgeous screen.
Description: The Nintendo Switch OLED is a marked improvement over the original and Switch Lite. If you play a lot in handheld mode, the OLED model is a surprisingly huge upgrade. And if you don't play your Switch in handheld mode often, the Switch OLED's new screen is impressive enough that it could change that.
The Nintendo Switch OLED will be available on October 8, 2021. You can read the full written Nintendo Switch OLED review by Steven Petite on GameSpot. - Hry
4 years to make a kick stand that works right. Good job Nintendo.
and 2 add bluetooth 😭
And only 50 bucks more! Groan.
Thats innovation

I’ll still wonder who was the one who greenlit the ol’ 2017’s Switch kickstand
They give you a reason to upgrade.
@@TeodorAngelov yup same way they wait for the OLED to release a Bluetooth update...
It was definitely a cover for the sd card slot first and foremost and a kickstand second
This isn’t a upgrade, this is what the switch should’ve been originally.
So....an upgrade then.
exactly
@@Awnos You got him there lol
@@Awnos hahaha the steam deck is the real deal
@@percymiller8775 the steam deck is still 800p screen. even valve knows a more demanding screen saps the battery fast. People saying Nintendo should have this out at launch have to remember, they had come off of the worst console sales with the WiiU as their previous console. They obviously had no idea if the Switch would be as successful as it still is so didn't want to take another risk. Also maybe this would have been a pro version but with the current situation around lack of chips, parts availability, its forced their hand. again this is all just a subjective opinion. I'm still going to get the OLED as I've had my switch since launch and now want the better display for handheld, which I do play a fair amount of
Vita screen OLED still looks amazing
Thanks for this review, it helped me alot to decide to wait to buy this model when I can!
With the psvita having an OLED screen like 7 years before the switch…its amazing to me that the switch didnt come with an OLED panel with the first model
Vita’s OLED doesn’t have true blacks and is only half as bright as the Switch’s OLED
@@fightnight14 Except Vita was a pioneer of the technology for mobile devices just as much as PS3 had been for Blu-Ray and PS2 for DVD.
Nintendo on the other hand is releasing the Switch oled in 2021 when the tech is commonplace.
to be fair, the psvita's OLED display was pretty terrible
@@mappybc6097 its not common when no other current OLED handheld gaming device. Not even the upcoming Steam Deck. Also don’t forget that Sony dumped the OLED Vitas and went back to LCD’s
@@fightnight14 Again, no comparison. Oled smartphones are a dime a dozen and manufacturing costs are way better than they were back in 2011.
Also, Sony releasing a cheaper lcd model for a dying Vita that would be their worse selling system ever is the complete opposite of Nintendo releasing a more expensive model of their fastest selling console ever.
I'm listening to the points in this video, and I'm just thinking that this is what overselling looks like. Point to minor details while emoting as if they're revolutions.
Apple like strategy !
"The Switch OLED screen is the best dedicated handheld OLED screen ever" That's not hard considering the only other OLED portable console is the PS VITA from 5 years ago
Omfg I was about to say the same!!! The switch has no competition son the title of "best handheld screen" is so irrelevant
Steam Deck uses LCD and has thick bezels
Small correction, he actually said the best display in general, not just OLED screen. Tho the PS Vita OLED was definitely neat!
PSvita released in 2012, let that sink in…
@Sun depends on the game. Also not all games will be stable depending on your graphic setting in the Steam Deck. You would need to tone down graphics to get stability in heavy games
Can't wait till Friday
Imagine getting hyped for a re-re-re-re launch of a console with a bigger screen and a lan port in 2021.
Well the improvements definitely benefits me cause I enjoyed tabletop mode gaming on the V2 and that wasn't perfect at all due to the screen size and how flimsy the kickstand was. It was a Terrible design flaw. Switch is my only modern Gaming device and I sold Ps4 Pro and Series S. I got rid of my PC ages ago. If it weren't for Nintendo, I would have quit gaming. I'm not interested in games from other companies these days. I don't have the time or care anymore. I could ask you "imagine getting excited over dust collectors called Ps5 and Series and paying scalpers double the money for them"
@@Deadsea_1993 understandable, have a nice day.
@Terrell Owens . I never said this was a huge improvement. In a standalone comment, I mentioned how your mileage will vary. Is this a good upgrade from an OG Switch or a Lite ? Absolutely. Is it worth throwing your V2 model away in favor of ? Not really, no. It has the same specs as the V2 and nothing changes when docked. Nintendo is known for releasing a ton of revisions for their handheld lines. They have done this with GBA, DS, and 3DS. The spinoff of 3DS, the 2DS, even got revisions. This console isn't meant to be a successor to the V2, rather it is basically the V2 XL. Just like 3DS XL was to 3DS. If someone mainly plays docked, these improvements wouldn't be worth it and they might as well just stick with getting a V2 and use the extra $60 to get a new game.
I'm getting this day 1. This device really varies by your mileage. Switch is my primary console these days and I currently have a Lite. I had to sell my V2 cause the pandemic last year. I miss tabletop mode and the option to play on the TV. OLED appeals to me due to the improvements to tabletop mode gaming, which wasn't perfect on the V2. The flimsy kickstand could easily fall over and it came off the console very easily. I also like the bigger screen for tabletop mode gaming on OLED. This device is basically the Switch XL like the 3DS XL. A performance boost would have been fine, but I'm happy with this. I plan on selling the Lite and some stuff with it to get DBZ Kakarot, Darksiders 3, and Metroid:Dread.
Dawg it sounds like you need to worry about bigger things than a switch with an OLED screen
@@YEHOxSHUA Forreal. This dude got his priorities all messed up
Sheep.
For those who have YET to own a Nintendo Switch, this is a must buy. For those who already have it (version 1, version 2 or Lite), no need to upgrade, it's that simple. But I may but it cause I usually play it on handheld most of the time, even though I own a Switch v.2.
I'd say version 1 is worth the upgrade for the much better battery and lite is worth it if you want to play docked. But version 2 is just fine to ignore the OLED
The only Gamespot review , where spoilers are alright .
I’m looking forward to the next major switch console with .01 percent better battery life and improved stability. ETA Q4 2025.
Ah yes I am also looking forward to the 721p screen
2 days left for us and 10 days for Sora's arrival to Smash.
Nice review. I was wondering if my satisfye grip would fit the new switch.
In BOTW, there is a shrine that appears only during a bloodmoon (approx 3hrs in game time). I normally leave my switch on and go about my day waiting for this to happen. Is there a burnout protection feature on the OLED screen? I know static images tend to cause burnout on OLEDs.
Probably my Samsung oled screen on my phone died in less than a year it just turned off one day and never came back on again i could hear the phone start up when i turned it on and got it replaced with the warranty but I’m not upgrading because of that happening on my phone the screen started to flicker then just died completely lol
Are you going to do that shrine everyday for the rest of your life?

Thats a good idea and would recquire nintendo to start making sense with their products.

But is it $350.00 perfect?

I really wanted to buy the oled as my first switch, do you think there will be scalpers going after the oled even though so many people have no interest in it because it isn't that different from the old switch power wise? I wanted to just walk into a store on launch day and buy it
@@praneshpatel242 yes they're already listing the pre-sales at exorbitant prices. Good luck, just gotta be quicker than them.
Finally added a LAN port when they're online service is still horrible. Irony?
Nice
I get the feeling a lot of the negative comments on here are from people who already own a Switch and wanted a more enticing upgrade. I get that. But for those now buying a Switch for the first time, this is a no-brainer.
you can get a xbox series s or a used xbox one and used PS4 for the price of a nintendo switch lmao
@@oldcet5277 I'm assuming reasons people buy a Switch often include exclusive games, and portability. Switch has its own USPs.
@@jvue7297 Sure, beefing it up would give better performance. But at what cost? I think new most buyers will be perfectly happy with the minor upgrades for a small price increase. If you want performance, you don't buy a Switch.
Being compatible with all joycons has nothing to do with fixing analog stick drift. How is this still not fixed out of the factory?!

Will we be able to transfer all our data from the original Switch to the OLED if we trade in? My wife legit might cry if she lost her hours of work dedicated to Animal Crossing even though she hasn't touched the game in months lol
Get NSO (Nintendo Switch Online) service and cloud save all your data So when you get it you just download your save from the cloud
Most places will let you transfer your data before you trade it in, also get online for cloud backup
You need to have an online account for animal crossing in order to transfer your save date from one to another. It won't work if you just transfer it manually like the other games.
Yes my fiancée and I both got one this week and transferred all our saved data over from our previous switches with complete ease. Have a subscription of Nintendo online and also back everything up. The oled switch is beyond worth it in every way possible.
Actual review or another "hands on"?
So I’m trying to get one so of course it’s gonna be impossible to get. If I wasn’t trying to get one, it would be available in every store but nope
If they release a 60 FPS version, I’d get it
The switch is 60fps now. Just not every game.
How much FPS can the switch run?
Several Nintendo Switch games support a 60 frames-per-second framerate, meaning you'll get the same smooth experience you'd see on more powerful machines. Mar 30, 2021...
The Nintendo Switch (OLED model) will feature a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 and maximum frame rate of 60 fps, according to hardware specifications listed on Nintendo's website. Jul 6, 2021

Ps-vita said hold it beer
Its still the best looking handheld ever
Games mid at best tho
Factually wrong oled switch is the best looking handheld ever made. Even vita looks worse
Oh dear. Not at all. I love Vita for sure and still have it, a fully modded 250GB model, but it definitely isn't in the same category of power as Switch is. Vita showed signs of matching Ps3 if the game was ported correctly. Meanwhile, Switch is stronger than 360 and Ps3 and doesn't struggle at all with games from that era. Mortal Kombat on Vita plays fine, but the character models that have a close up camera that zooms in after a fight makes them look hideous due to the graphics limitations. You seriously think that Vita games look better than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or LOZ Breath of the Wild on the OLED screen ?
@@Deadsea_1993 is the switch more powerful than the ps3? I doubt that

Here, I'll save everyone 6 minutes and 6 seconds.
The Switch Oled is the same underpowered 4 year technology you are already accustomed to, it's just this one has a slightly bigger screen, and costs $50 more for some puzzling reason.
Because it has a better screen.
and 64GB instead of 32, a better kickstand ,a sleeker-looking dock and LAN port for better connection- did I forget the OLED screen?
Anyone having green tint issue?

Ps vita was ahead of its time
As someone who would almost exclusively play the Switch docked, the OLED doesn't interest me at all. The only improvement is an Ethernet jack...
Might as well sell it and upgrade to a PS5 or XBSX for the graphical and power prowess cz the value in the switch is in portable play/table-top mode
Even though the PlayStation vita didn’t work out the way it should have it’s still beats the Nintendo switch in alot of ways especially the OLED screen sorry but it’s true don’t get me wrong I have the switch myself and I play on it all the time sorry

Plz make switch lite oled
Your phone can play emulators with oled
All I got say speak with your wallet if you want the OLED to be $300 as the current Switch with the same internal specs instead of $350. Nintendo will shift prices if it's not selling. The Skyward Sword (10 year old game) at Best Buy is now $40 now after 2 months being on the market at $60 back on July 16 2021. Nintendo fixed the launch Nintendo 3DS from $250 to $170 after few months.

350? TREE-FIDDY!?
You could get a 4K television for that much.....
