Some quick first impressions. Thanks for watching this! Maybe not a "MUST BUY" but a nice little upgrade for certain people
You’re welcome
Yoooooo jake u the bomb
I’d buy the Switch pro. This right here is not the Switch pro

Surprise
It’s practically the “3DS XL” of the Switch line
Can't wait for the "New 3ds XL" version.
In like 2 years from now.
@@Smile-uu2yg which will get a couple of exclusive games to then be dropped completely. Great show, Nintendo👌
I think the XL was a MAJOR upgrade compared to the original 3DS, which this doesn't feel as much of an upgrade.
@@Smile-uu2yg the 4k Switch XL has been announced to release on next November & not in 2 yrs! Only two exclusive games for now, they announced Pokemon Titanium AND Metroid: quartz. It's a prequel. Hell to the yeah!!
@@shen-long9082 Yeah and it's more powerful than a ps5, will also come with gta6 pre installed and cost only $99!
Long story short:
If you don’t have a switch, get this one. If you already have one, you’re good unless you play handheld 99% of the time, and even then.
If you don't have one and you know you're not gonna be playing handheld you should just buy the regular switch.
Well put
@@sandr921 also well put
How about the switch lite? It’s 150 bucks cheaper unless the switch oled is really worth 350.
Okay
About 30-40% of my time is spent in handheld but I upgraded from the Version 1 Switch and I’m really appreciating the bigger OLED screen and the superior battery life!
I was a little worried about buyer’s remorse for this one but I sold my old switch to a friend and I love the OLED. It definitely feels like a nicer, more well thought out console compared to the old version 1 Switch.
Would you recommend buying this in 2023
@@Jactional for what i undersant i think it depends on the type of person you are like he says. If you think you will play handheld a lot then its worth it if you think you are going to play it mostly on your Tv then save up those 50 extra for a new game because when you play on the TV they are the same thing.
@@Jactional yes if its your first switch or if anything bad happens to your first gen switch like mine where the speakers just stopped working
The battery omg I once played Skyrim for 6 hours straight doing this cool quest that I was absolutely glued too not once did I worry about the battery shit I was having so much fun I played until I had to charge the switch In the dock. Imagine playing skyrim on a Nintendo DS, that's what the switch is.
Coming from a first gen swicth. It surprised me a lot at how much of a difference the OLED screen made for me. I have an OLED TV and I know how good they are. However, I wasn't expecting to much as it is Nintendo you know. But I stand corrected its a small but big upgrade all at the same time. As for the switch I have definiteltly noticed a better battery life compared to my older switch. Lastly, is it just me or does it feel a little bit slimmer that the gen one?
No “backlight bleed” or “halo” around bright objects, and no smearing in fast-paced video games. It gives the impression of a higher res screen, but the reality is that an LCD screen does poor justice to the 720p resolution. And with an upgraded screen, you really start to see how some devs have deliberately avoided any high contrast to compensate. Crysis 2 looks particularly amazing in handheld on this device.
@@happyspaceinvader508 i play on a 50 inch 4K hdr tv so for me i don’t care about upgrading if the oled was 4K then i would but battery life in handheld isn’t that great on any switch i noticed the joy cons last far long battery wise when docked to yes handheld sold me on the switch before it came out but now i don’t really care about it lol
@@ot9523 if you play mostly on tv then yeah don’t upgrade but you do know that even though you have a 4K tv the dock still plays in 1080p right?
@@ot9523 Entirely up to you, of course, but the reason your 50” OLED 4K TV looks so good is more because it’s OLED, than 4K. You’d know this if you’ve ever owned on of the (very few) 1080p OLED TVs that preceded the 4K models… they looked so much better than 4K LCD! LCD screen tech is vastly inferior to OLED, and doesn’t do the native screen res justice, due to backlight bleed, narrow viewing angle and low contrast ratio making the picture appear blurry and washed out regardless of the native res.
This is why the Switch OLED is a better upgrade than you’d think… the screen _looks_ far higher res, simply because OLED gives you such a razor-sharp picture… static images look almost as if they’ve been hand-painted onto the screen.
@@ot9523 noone cares if you have a 4k tv.. the switch only outputs 1080 anyways, bet ya didnt even realize
The real question is though... how's that bagel place across the street? Any good?

I’ve just bought myself the Nintendo Switch Oled and I’m over the moon with this great console. It’s my first Nintendo console and I’m looking forward to sitting back on the sofa playing games in handheld and I love the fact I can take it anywhere and enjoy my gaming. Brilliant Review Jake!
was hoping for more of an upgrade, but really happy with the new screen. My previous switch's screen was getting a little worn and I play mobile primarily so it was something I've been waiting to replace for a while. The lack of air gap on the screen is a big selling feature in my opinion
As someone who has visual issues the larger OLED screen is a godsend! I like playing in portable mode but the original screen was a lot harder on my eyes. The slightly larger size and vastly increased contrast make a huge difference for reading text and seeing smaller details in games so far.
It does, i can attest to that. Even text is somehow clearer.
As someone who can't see well without their glasses, this is good news for me and I'm glad to hear the screen is bigger and clearer
Exactly why I upgraded too :)
As someone with the first edition switch, I definitely need one, will be transferring data and trading in sometime soon hopefully
@@themostthankfulegg9140 I was surprised how easy it was, even transferring New Horizons after the main transfer was pretty painless.

This review made me realise that the upgrade isn’t worth it for me personally and to save that money for more games (I don’t have time to play).
Thanks Jake, keep em coming.
Thanks
Thanks this was helpful, considering buying a switch for the first time and now I know which way to go
Glad we could help
Got the OLED this morning at Best Buy, I’m in love! Never played an og switch but this one is sick!
Good for you mate. And great choice for your first switch.
Good Sam and tx you for appreciate.
Me too. My wife and I took a random trip to Walmart after dinner Friday and they had one on the shelf! I immediately grabbed one. I had accepted the fact that they were all gonna be bought up by scalpers and it wasn't worth the trouble for me to fight for one or pay outrageous amounts of money for it. Got it and breath of the wild (long time Zelda fan. Been there since the beginning, just haven't had the ability play this one). The console is great. And another added bonus that shocked me is that it supports my ultrawide moniter without black bars! First console I've connected to it that has done that.
@@davidhodge0201 Friday, Walmart and a Switch Oled, what a nice way to start week-end. A friday to remember here...
Really? I'm actually getting a switch next week after saving like crazy. Walked into GameStop looking for used switch prices and found the OLED staring me in the face.
But my main concern are the accessories like body armor. Carrying cases and stuff. First thing I always do when I buy a phone is get body armor. Not a regular display. BODY ARMOR. I'm talking the kind that protects your device from up to a three to five foot drop.
A "Stuff Goblin" xD I've never heard such an accurate description that could describe myself XD
Cum goblin
Great review.
I love the way you review guys you always says the things that matter, no unnecessary details and even when you explain you mention that's unnoticeable.
Thank you again
I’ve recently just bought myself the Nintendo Switch OLED and I’m over the moon with this console. I’ve been wanting one since release and I’m happy I decided to finally pick it up. Now all I need to do is collect all of the games I’ve been missing out on over the last few years.
I just wish that the switch oled had improved internals. Otherwise, it's still a decent option for those with a switch lite or people who haven't bought a switch yet
Yeah, I have a Switch Lite and I’m thinking of getting this
The issue is size you can't more powerful hardware in a small system
Yeah in an ideal world we'd have gotten a Switch "Pro" and from some rumours (which would be backed up by the state of chip shortages) they kinda wanted to do just that, were it not for the whole global pandemic thing fucking up supply chains/availability of computer chips.. Who knows for sure though haha
Like if it were a "Pro" I would have picked up Age of Calamity with it today BUT... I can do frame dips like in Link's Awakening/BotW no sweat, but AoC is too far even for me XD
All that said, the OLED was a pretty easy upgrade for me. I play in handheld/table-top quite a lot, depending on the month/week anywhere from 40%-90% of the time. I have a launch day Switch with one of the speakers broken; The kick stand has been my least favourite thing about the build since I got it; The 64gb is nice as I don't want to bother with SD cards with the only games I have downloaded being Smash Bros, DLC for Pokemon, and Trivial Pursuit yet my system is already full; I can sell my old Switch to mitigate the cost (which isn't something I see many people bring up).
And having had it in my hands for a few hours, just everything about it feels like a notably more premium version of the hardware (as far as build quality/display/sound/etc.) Not a purchase I'm personally likely to regret!! Even if we're (hopefully) only 1 1/2 -2 1/2 years away from a legit Switch upgrade/successor.
@@gulfcitynd that's what they always say till they actually do it,they never thought they could put ps3\360 class hardware in something as small as the switch but they did, then everyone was like "but it wont play high end games" yet itll pull warframe and now we are about to get a dying light port (wich im super excited for). We just gotta give them time to milk this hardware before they release something new that's all.
@@ThreeBlindMiceFilms I never really play mine in handheld so I wasn't even going to bother getting an oled till he brought up the memory increase but I still think I'm gonna wait till the price drops, not playing in handheld I'd just be wasting money. But yeah I feel you on the sd card thing,I only put online only games on my sd card but hard copy games and paid dlc goes on internal memory as iv had sd cards in my phones stop working and I just dont 100% trust them for important data.
If your buying one don’t remove the cover that’s stuck to the screen, it’s not supposed to be removed and can mess up your screen inputs. You can place a screen protector over the top, which is recommended!
Where did you get this information from? Never heard anyone say this tbh
Nintendo company announced it yesterday
Well said, thnks
I agree with this PSA. Videos are starting to come out saying the film needs to stay on the switch, do not remove it.
Nintendo pulled a samsung
I got to finally play it when I went to a Best Buy the other day & it looks a lot better than the original model with richer colors & a sharper image which looks greater than 720p. The bigger screen looks nice as well, but I'm sticking with my original model for now as I mostly play mine docked. Will upgrade if a 4K model ever comes out.
I have had my OLED for almost a year now and it’s a great upgrade from my Lite (and the V1 Switch I had before that). I almost never even pick up my Lite anymore. Contrary to what other viewers might think, this system has some serious power. I play 90% handheld mode and 10% tabletop as I play sitting in bed due to my disability (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports and the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition are the games I play in tabletop mode using my Joy Con Wrist Straps or Joy Con Wheel).
I have the GTA trilogy, but it's SO hard to enter cheats!!!!! What is San Andreas without the jetpack?!

I think I'll definitely get it. It really isn't much of an upgrade for most switch owners but my switch is one of the older models with the bad battery life and the micoSD functionality has been completely broken, plus all my joycons have issues so I think for me the upgrade will be pretty substantial.
Just convinced me
Did you end up getting it?

Really good video! short and specific. helped me a lot, thanks.
I say the oled switch is great for people that had the og launch switch, hand held users and new users. The launch switch had massive issues with plastics. Never dropped mine and it had massive cracks all over the place. This is a great console and i love it, redesign is much needed and having the .8 inch screen increase is incredible.
Coming from a launch version switch, I want to buy the Tears of Kingdom version but should I?
I’ve missed Breathe of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, and Sora in smash is gonna be the reason I get a switch gotta lot to catch up on
I bought a switch like 3 years ago when they upgraded the battery. And I just now got caught up with all those games. I did also buy new games that came out and have a Series X. But I use my Switch way more and it's totally worth it.
Hope you have fun!
I got my switch because Mario 3D all stars was gonna go off the shelves back in March and I refused to miss that
As much as i want one, i just can't, especially knowing that a better version is coming soon
@@SNOTNUF_ literally the best alternative is to find a used switch lite that’ll run you for less then $180 if you really wanna grab a switch game cause as soon as you get a different version chances are another one will come out, it happened to me and I got my switch lite 4 years late 💀
Mario odyssey was disappointing in my opinion, but I enjoyed Breath of the wild and Smash bros ultimate of course.
more space in the doc is likely so people can have skins/case accessories on their devices that fit into the dock. an issue with the original switch is that putting cases on the switch would make the dock a tight fit and sometimes impact whether it was able to connect to the dock, which i experience a bit myself.
Andrew rocking that switch on his Bike , sold me! Looking good brother! Thanks guys
I’ll stick with my day 1 launch switch since it’s nothing I particularly care about I play it on the dock most of the time anyway

@@beesquestionmark you'll get a lot of money for it, pretty much the same as you paid, as long as the screen isn't damaged. They're like gold dust because they can be modded. I would never sell mine.
To me this seems like that second version of the Gameboy SP with the brighter backlight which in my opinion is totally worth it. also that kickstand and speakers seem like a bigger deal than people have made them out to be!

That side saddle bag is more of a must buy than upgrading a switch. Such a slick looking bag
I've always used mostly Playstation consoles and haven't had a Nintendo consoles since the 3DS which I only used for Pokemon and the harvest moon games. The Switch seems to have a lot of great games compared to its predecessors so I'm thinking of getting one to try some of the exclusive switch games, mostly the Otome games and Harvest moon games, used to love those! I like the white colour on this model and like the way you can play it on TV as I don't really like handheld
If you liked Pokémon games in the past you’ll love the new Legends Arceus one.. best Pokémon game ever made. Worth picking up a Switch for!
I’m definitely someone who bought the OLED as their very first switch, I figured I should get the newer model since it would likely have improvements from the other switch so all worked out I guess. Just gotta build up my game collection now.

In the 4+ years since I've had a Switch (still got my original 2017 model at the moment), I've actually never played it in TV mode. So getting this (tomorrow at the time of this comment) is a more significant upgrade for me that I initially thought, even with the battery since Nintendo did that better battery model in 2019 and the OLED has that battery in it.

I literally just bought 1 right before watching this video. Looking at peoples reviews over it as I download my games. For me, the OLED is a HUGE upgrade as I am upgrading from a Switch Lite, and still plan on playing mainly in handheld mode. The screen is massive compared to the Lite.
I have a Switch Lite and I also plan on upgrading for the Oled. It's only one upgrade but it's a huge one.
When you mentioned about the joy on rails. I was thrilled as well hoping it was an upgrade. The reason I bought the Oled as because my old switch wasn't reading my joy cons attached and they would keep disconnecting. It wasn't the joy cons because I have plenty and they all work fine wirelessly but they all disconnect. Here's hoping it's not because it's new and that it actually stays sturdy. I only play handheld
I've had that happen consistently with my right joycons playing Splatoon even after sending them. . .
Picked mine up today going from a switch lite, BIG improvement! Screen is definitely the biggest upgrade of all.
P.S. Downloading games on Wi-Fi vs Ethernet is WAYYY slower. Highly recommend docking when you do your initial setup and game re-download.
no its not.

I've never owned a Nintendo console (Xbox/ps/gameboy guy) but I just snagged the Zelda OLED edition. Stoked to dive into some games I've been missing!

Basically me. I'm planning to give my Animal Crossing edition Switch to my niece and get the OLED version.

I was playing retro games on my phone with an emulator, but playing with a touchscreen was pissing me off, so I googled and found out a lot of my favorite retro games are available on the switch. Plus I've been curious about animal crossing, so I'm thinking of getting one. I think I'll probably play it mostly handheld, so I was thinking of getting the Switch Lite, but that thing's screen is way smaller than my phone's (my phone's is 6.8"), so... I think I'm just gonna get the OLED
Which one did you get! :)
@@henry-sh1zj I got the OLED and I'm quite happy with it
Sir, thank you for not wasting time, and thanks for giving honest information about the new NS OLED! Much appreciated. Good video! Coming from a first generation Switch, I'm still considering buying this newest iteration. (Unless, of course, the "Pro Switch" everyone's been speculating on is announced by the time I can get one. A gamer can dream...)
I play mine docked 95% of the time so this really isn't my thing, but I'd be interested in buying the dock and the white joy con separately. Those are nice! I'd appreciate a LAN port and is it true the dock is easier on your Switch? One of the reasons I'm hesitant to take it on the go is the constant docking and undocking.
I currently live in a Switch-less household and was considering getting the "oh-ledd" for my Minecraft/Fortnite obsessed 7 year old. I feel like the extra £70-80 is money well spent going off your thoughts, so thanks for sharing your thoughts, Stuff Goblin. 😄👍
Get a lite for a 7 yr old
Get a Switch Lite for a 7yr old
Not for a 7 year old . A 7 year isn’t going to care about oled or a bigger screen
@@scottydangerzone867 But then they're restricted to handheld only yes?
@@JohnSimpson2112 true, but I guarantee 💯 that it will be dropped and destroyed before a yr is up. It's a good starter system. As someone who also has a 7yr old and works in the warranty department for consumer electronics. Go with the lite
I traded in my V1 switch for this one and it was WORTH it
great video. Last handheld for me was years ago with the Psp. So excited to once again get a handheld system. Just ordered my ns oled yesterday. Lots of rpgs n jrpgs im looking forward to play on it. 😎😊
Had the og switch. So it's a bit of a upgrade for me !. Since I play mostly handheld. The battery is way better then the og model and the screen colors just pop. Hands down like you said if you play handheld and never had or have the og one then it's a good upgrade 👌. You won't be disappointed.
I think imma have to get it 🐸 thanks for the review!!
You could do a new Switch OLED asmr

I'm curious if Comfort Grip covers for the OLED joycons still work on these, or if the ones made for the original switch won't fit because they're too small. I ask because I'm not too big a portable gamer as I used to be. I have a 3DS that I used to play in high school and now I can't hold it because of how hard it is to get a comfortable hold on it. Hell, when I recently got a VITA (blame Persona), I got that L2+R2 protective case that makes it more like a controller with a screen because I hated how my hands were curled into cramping half-fists. I'm also asking because I want to get a comfort grip cover for the Joycons for when I buy it, same as a large microSD
They should fit. The console itself is the exact same dimensions, and the joycons are the same. It's just the bezels around the screen that have shrunk.
Just bought the Splattoons edition of the OLED model... really nice console! I'm mostly playing Breath of the Wild on my tv, but it will be great for the kids to be able to play it handheld...
Great video loads of information I traded my old switch for this new switch love it it's way better 😊😊
Hey guys who is part of the gang called “Watching it but can’t afford it”?
