- This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2025 Toyota 4Runner mid-size body-on-frame SUV. Toyota just unveiled the 6th generation 4Runner, many of you have been waiting for this redesign and it’s finally here. There are things that we don’t know yet like pricing and official fuel economy numbers but we’ll go over what we do know. The 4Runner will hit dealerships this fall and there are three questions that we’ve been asked leading up to the unveiling of this new vehicle. Does the 4Runner have a roll-down rear window, will it have an optional third row and will it be made in Japan. Yes to all three! Here’s our first look of the 2025 Toyota 4Runner. There are two 2025 Toyota 4Runner powertrain options which are shared with the Toyota Tacoma. The standard engine is a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. There is no manual transmission offering on the 4Runner.
The second more powerful electrified powertrain is the i-Force Max hybrid with up to 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. This hybrid can tow up to 6,000 pounds. In Canada, 2025 Toyota 4Runner will be offered in part-time 4WD or full-time 4WD. It has an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case with high/low range, Active traction control and an automatic limited-slip differential. An electronic locking rear differential is standard on TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro and Trailhunter models.
The multi-terrain select system now functions in both 4WD-high and 4WD-low. A new quieter CRAWL control function has been added, downhill assist control, there’s an available stabilizer bar disconnect mechanism and when traction is extremely limited, the available electronically activated locking rear differential can help split power 50/50 to the rear wheels. The 4Runner has up to a 32-degree approach angle and 24-degree departure angle. As we would expect, this being an all new As we would expect, this being an all new model, it gets Toyota’s latest technology with new screens. It comes standard with a 7” guage cluster, available 12.3” digital display. As for the touchscreen, it’s a standard 8” screen with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, available 14” touchscreen. There’s also an available wireless charger and standard dual USB-C charging ports in the front row, available for rear passengers.
Push-button start is standard on all grades and a digital key is available on select grades which can be remotely shared with others.

I am an older woman-don't bother how old🥰. I fell in love with the first-generation 4-Runner. This new one with the factory-installed snorkel exhaust pipe looks fantastic. I would love to see the top Limited model. Many women love the 4Runner. It is not necessary for off-track adventures, but it is the perfect size and convenience for just daily driving. And it is reliable, Made in Japan Toyota.
Nothing but a sorry choice for a motor a 4 cylinder! This is like pushing a baby carriage with two wheels
Nothing but a under powered 4 cylinder motor with half the life of a six cylinder
Older woman here. Just bought a 24, 6 cylinder. The 4 cylinder was a no go for me.
I have a 2019 4Runner and like the looks of the new model. Glad to hear it’s still made in Japan.😊
Watched several of the 4Runner reviews. You guys were the best. Lots of good technical info and no slobber. Congratulations !
Wow thank you very much!
You were the First to Pop-Up for the 2025 4Runner!!! Great Job you guys, love the SUV!!!
Thank you so much!
Finally! Thanks! As a huge 4R fan, I couldn't wait and I have to say that it just might grow on me...! See you in 2028, new 4Runner!
All the channels notified me of this review and I chose your channel to watch! Keep up the good work!
You are the best, thank you! 🙏
1st notification of a 4runner review came from motormouth 🎉. As always, its motormouth and then the rest in terms of reviews😊.Outstanding work🥳
Thanks a ton
Thank you so much for the support.
Glad they kept that rear window. Most underrated feature just ask my dogs.
Another great review from this fine channel! Have been waiting for this one regarding the 4Runner and like what i see!
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Thanks for the review team! I’m curious if the fuel economy improves with the new engine. Also, the lead ad for this video (for me) was your new OEM coolant spot. Nice to see you getting new sponsorship. 👍
Great first look and great review guys!! 👍👍
Thank you so much!
So well done 👍
I really like what Toyota has done with the different 4runners, thanks for the great review 👍
Thanks for watching
This vehicle has been getting excellent wraps from all reviewers. Personally I like it.
Cheers.
Wow. 🤩 love the colors in and out 😍.
My first view of the new 2025 4Runner on your channel. Awesome job 😎
Thank you very much!
@andreaspencer9813 Thank you also, I've been watching Zack's channel for many years now and he's been always awesome. Since you joined with your husband, it's just even more wonderful and as a proud Canadian I really hope you guys get more subscribers 😊
@@Ewin23 That's really nice of you to say, we really appreciate the support.
Great overview, thanks for the details!
Always solid reporting by Motormouth....Thank You!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.
Toyota decided to do the shotgun approach with a million vids at the same time. I appreciate the fact based reviews over some people just walking around the vehicle and talking about it.
Love your reviews!
Thank you very much!
Looks great very nice pre release review, love the design vibe
You guys have a good following. Well done!
Thank you very much!
YESSSS ABOUT TIME! I’ve never had a Toyota but this makes me consider it!
Holy smokes my feed was just inundated with the new 4 runner. Of course I clicked this channel first as always
Awesome, thank you!
Nicely done, appreciate the update!
Thanks for watching
Great review...!
Looks great! Nice job Toyota ❤️👏🏻🇯🇵
Great review, the current 4Runner still looks good.
I follow a ton of car reviewers and my first watch through on the 4Runner was of course my man Zork 😂and Andrea. As always amazing content
Thank you, really glad you liked it.
I like the mud bath color one. I can't wait for your test drives.🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You know what’s awesome about embargoes that force posting a video at 10pm EST?
Pretty much nothing 😂
Great video folks!
Toyota amazing work. Thanks for the great review team.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
Love your videos, easily my favourite channel now! I’m curious why they don’t make more diesel options in Canada?
Great review Andrea and Zack. I’m liking this new 4 runner!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great preview... going by the current pricing for Tacoma and Tundra.. this ain't going ot be cheap. :)
Very good review.
Awesome review - you guys are detailed, informative and keep it flowing. Ty for sharing! Can’t wait to see one at my local dealership (maybe I will trade up 😉)!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it!
I’ve always loved the special TRD paint colors. Very cool!
Car thieves in Canada will love it! I bet they’re reserving cargo ship space right now 🚢
Owned a 4-Runner back in the early 2000s and still miss it desperately.. gave it to my son who drove it until he got into a crash just two years ago. The 4-Runner saved him but it was totaled.. I am looking into Toyotas again after many years of Acuras and this looks promising!
Watched again, you both did such a great job of packing in info that I missed the first time that the Platinum has the i force max with the tow package. So that will make it tough to decide between it and the Land Cruise looking forward to your driving impressions of the Land Cruiser and the 4 RUNNER. CHEERS!
Thank you so much, we appreciate the kind words.
I came searching for Zack’s view on these vehicles…not disappointed. It think the TRD pro or the Trailblazer are on my radar for next Ski Truck. Great review you guys👍🏻😎
Great presentation as per usual guys! I would like two more segments from you on this 4 Runner.
Perhaps use one of your Coffee, Questions & Cars segment.
The Segments could be;
1. Recap all of the trims here mentioned this launch but “list them” in print on the screen! ( like many i am a visual learner).
In this revisit section:
- beside each trim say what it’s height is. I e. Is the lowest height for regular street driving?
- if a trim is more for off road how much higher is it to the regular street version.
- what models really are for street driving and not off road if there are any.
- what models in Canada are 2 wheel drive, which are four and which only come in all wheel drive? No I would not want All Time 4 Wheel drive.
- yes I’m getting confused too lol! Ok last one in this segment. What is the lowest basic Hybrid & it’s trim called?
2. A drive segment review with possible wait to purchase time mentioned and what costs will increase normally as a new model and are prices going up further because of demand and long wait times if known?
Go No
The Canadian reviewers understand what the true 4runner fans want more than the American reviewers, who are marketers at this point.
Canada sucks though.
All are influencers, not reviewers.
@@jamesh1641 what does that even mean?
Wow I feel like Toyota really listened to its customer basis. Not 100% sure about the front end, but I felt like that about gen5 too and now I love it. Great car. Great review too.
I still enjoy driving my 2006 4Runner, V8 Sport Edition! It doesn't have the new technology, but it still has the V8!
The iForce Max is the most powerful 4Runner ever made
Yeah exactly. More reliable and better sound
@jeffladd1146 yeah but it's not the most reliable though
Can't wait to get one❤
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Can not wait for dealership arrival
I love the new look inside and out.
Nothing says “Hi, we’re Canadian” like white boots and white sneakers in the desert of SoCal.
Of course!
@@andreaspencer9813😂
LOL.! So goood.
Saw this on Instagram and couldn't wait for the review 🎉
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.
@@andreaspencer9813 Always my pleasure to watch!
Looking forward to a test drive review! Thanks kids!
Us too! Thanks for watching.
Great! Keep us posted on the details for us Canucks!
Love the styling of the TRD Pro and Trailhunter. I like the electric running boards on the Limited but not a fan of that chrome grille of the Limited. The addition of the IForce Hybrid option is nice given the gas mileage of previous generations was not great. Definitely a contender to replace my current 17 Highlander but not sure I want to go back to a body on frame vehicle. Will definitely check one out when the arrive at the dealerships later this year! Great review as always!
You two are so professional
We appreciate that, thank you!
I love it it looks beatiful💗
Very curious about the fuel economy. How was the seat comfort? I have a ‘21 Venza and those seats are amazing.
Been excited to see the new 4Runners. Not in the market for one, but have always liked them.
As a minimum job worker i might work for my whole life paying this😢 but i love this car.
Yes you can. Get out of debt, save , and invest
You right, you have to work
You're not a minimum wage worker. You're a minimum skill worker. Gain some skills.
Sounds like the limited won’t have the imax force as an option ?
damn that was quick
Do you know if the new 4 Runner comes with automatic side mirror retractable option?
When you travel with bikes on a hitch mount, you realize how great that rear window is for reaching luggage.
Glad the new 6th gen 4R is finally here. Way over due. Still digesting all the changes but believe I like what I see.
What a beautiful car and a true 4x4 beast. I'm stunned by Toyota recent design language... So aggressive and a huge improvement over their usual classical boring designs
Overall good job. I don’t like the front end on the Limited at all but the TRD Pro looks awesome. The interior is aesthetically cool but hate how high the dash is. I like the classic looks of the LC better. I really can’t wait for the small suv coming. If it retains the styling of the rest of these off roaders it will be great.
Nice to see that Toyota invited some Canadian Automotive Journalists to the event. Thank you for focusing on the Limited and talking about the third row and space. It appears that the 2025 will offer about the same amount of room as the outgoing version. I am a loyal Toyota fan but if one is looking for a dependable Japanese based 7 seater, the Honda Black Edition appears to be a winner. I was holding off on the purchase of a 7 seater until Toyota completed the 6th gen release but the Honda Pilot gets my Canuck Vote. Cheers and enjoy the Cali sun….
What a sweet ride, I'd like to live in one.
Do you know if the 5th gen production has stopped yet?
Just placed a deposit on a 2024 4Runner Off Road Prem. thats still in transit. This trim is still popular and people are still buying and not waiting for the 2025. Can't wait for mine to be delivered.
This is good looking 4Runner
Great video! I wonder if Ford will bring the Everest to North America to respond to the 4Runner, which will no doubt be a hot selling truck.
Can the transfer case be disconnected to allow flat tow
I like it. I really really like it.
Nice car ❤
How many miles to the gallon are the hybrids getting? That is the only question I have which I cannot find online.
I love Toyota's simplicity, and durability. like the Kei trucks with dump bed, way better than other brands.
Very nice review and beautiful truck. All though not in this class I love my CX5. The only thing I do not like is the fix rear window.
I am wondering what is the towing capacity - I assume it should be on par with the new Tacoma and Land Cruiser - around 6,000 lbs?
Also, does the new 4Runner have more room at the back seats than Tacoma? Tacoma’s rear seats are really tight.
And it would be interesting to compare this one to the new Land Cruiser
man, Toyota is killing it with their new offerings. The Tundra, Sequoia, Prius, Tacoma, Land Cruiser, and now this 4Runner. I was worried about what the 4Runner would become when the Land Cruiser was revealed as smaller than last gen. I'm so glad they kept the 4Runner as a BoF capable beast. The new Trail Hunter trim looks so good. I WANT ONE!
It looks great in all the trims presented here.I am surprised that there is no pano roof, though.
Do all trims have a three row option???
I love this aqua blue color! I wish car manufactures had more than white, black, dark blue, silver (light and dark), and maroon colored cars and trucks.
Awesome, great would like the hybrid max with the better tow numbers. I think that is available on the trailhunter model, but the payload numbers aren't great. Also like the limited but it doesn't come with the hybrid. Maybe the TRD off-road hybrid will be the one or maybe the land cruiser. There are so many choices now😊
It looks awesome. Good review! Pretty sure it will cost in the high 80k range 😢
Looks nice, shame that have the same crappy turbo 4 power train. Will have to test the hybrid (most likely imposible to get)
STRONGLY suspect the Pricing will hurt these as it did, and still does, the Tundra and Tacoma.
Another reviewer said the third row is not available if you have the hybrid engine because of the battery space. Is this true?
I wonder how much rear seat space i would lose if I switch my 2009 Sequoia for the 4runner. From this video, the rear seat space seems super tight.
Wait till those retractable running boards break when they get clogged up with snow and ice. Obviously added by a designer in southern California. Seen many F150’s with the same feature and the running boards are in the permanent down location.
Looking in the back, I'm wondering if we can get two dog kennels in back side by side without putting seats down. For two 80 pound dogs, Goldens..
Looks good ,but I will miss toyotas v6
New 4Runner looks so nice! Only worry is the turbo and rust issues on Toyota body on frame vehicles. This was only reason I got rid of my gx460 and gx470’s in the past. I would inspect the undercarriage before I buy this vehicle. If you live in the rust belt, this is especially important. Hopefully Toyota improved rust protection or made good design choices to minimize rust points.
Nice going to be spendy ❤
Few questions;
1 - how is the cargo space (w back seats folded) effected by the hybrid battery? How does usability of the space compare with exiting 4Runners?
2- How do specs and price compare for TRD off road and TRD off road Premium with hybrid option and Trail Hunter?
How do the gas mileage and road comfort compare between the TRD Off Road/Premium compare to Trail hunter with 33” tires
BTW, what are the tires on TRD off-road ?
Tacoma4Runner looks great.
Excellent review. As a original owner my 2008 4Runner (that I bought new for 28K) I like the new design, but I fear that corporate "Greedflation", dealer markups, limited trims and availability will make it "unobtainium" for most buyers.
I’m guessing the 3rd row isn’t going to be available in hybrid models. The iForce Max models appear to have a raised deck in the back compared to non-hybrid models. If true that’s too bad.
I wonder if it has heated steering wheel?
I still wonder about the longevity of turbo 4 cylinder engines in such heavy vehicles.
My F150 is close to 5000 lbs and has a twin turbo V6. I've put over 160,000 kms on it with no issues. I think the new technologies are better than we give them credit for.
Which model getting full time 4WD ?
