The 2025 Toyota 4Runner Is A Modern Interpretation Of An Iconic Japanese Off-Road SUV

- After an agonizingly long 15 years on the market, the redesigned #Toyota4Runner is FINALLY here and it borrows a lot of tech and capability from the redesigned Tacoma. Offered in up to 9 trim levels, including a new #4RunnerTrailhunter and #4RunnerPlatinum, this 6th generation #4Runner dumps its old V6 for a 2.4L turbo and 2.4L Turbo Hybrid powertrain. Built on a new body-on-frame construction with a massive improvement in tech, this new model will go on sale this spring.

Camera work on that intro was amazing
I watched like 7 videos already on the same car and this was the best. Dougs was more thorough but they probably gave him more time.
That's because they went with a twin-scroll turbo, essentially two turbos in the housing of one
I love it! People will hate on it at first because many don’t like change, but I think it’s a great upgrade!! And it still looks like a 4Runner! 😍
Nailed it. Love it. Compare to the last gen it is night and day.
I loved the Corolla hatchback, tundra, Land Cruiser, sequoia, BRZ, LC500, is350, and GX (and G5 4Runner)when they first came out… yet don’t like this at all.
Did you just say it still looks like a 4Runner😂😂😂WHERE??? a lot of folks don’t like change because it’s fine the way it is, meanwhile prices are higher then ever before, make it make sense youngin. Do you know how much it cost if electrical issues happen which they always do on newer models
Honestly I don’t know why they’re selling the LC250 in the US other than name. I expect the LC250 the leave the US in a couple of years due to this thing.
I like it. That said I’ll probably keep my 5th Gen for now.
The 4Runner, mechanically, hasn’t changed since 2005 so seeing an all-new 4Runner is a sight to behold. It looks cool, I just hope dealer markups don’t ruin the fun of this car.
Our dealer in omaha doesn't mark up
No markup in Canada
@@thebeddoctor4273 Interesting. A lot of dealers in Texas mark up 4Runners routinely, especially the TRD models.
Really. Here in SoCal dealers marked up the new 2024 Tacoma. So I'm sure they're going to do the same with the 4Runner
@@yvonjasseryeah because everything in Canada is already super expensive
They hit it out the ballpark with this one. The specs on that 4 cylinder are nuts too

This is going to be expensive as fuck 😂
My 2012 4Runner SR5 has 197,211 miles as of today. NO ISSUES! That 4.0 liter is great.
I think when I return to Canada - I'll be getting a Toyota. Maybe Subaru as the next generation will be using Toyota Hybrid systems and they have fixed up their Boxer engine - no more head gasket problems and Toyota owns part of Subaru. I got back from Manila and I was in three taxis - one had 1.3 million kilometres, another 850,000 and another around 800,000. All original engines and transmissions in stop-and-go gridlock traffic in 35-degree Celsius heat and typhoons. The bodies were wrecks - and they replace shocks and bushings etc but they run and run and run. I wouldn't trust any of the Americans (having owned them they;re piles) and forget the Germans - when a part brakes (and they brake 3 times more often than Toyota) they will also cost 5 times the price for the part and labour (if you can get a part). So it's mostly going to be between 4Runner, Land Cruiser and Subaru Outback which is the "budget option." All the taxis in Manila are Toyota VIOS - all the Taxis here in Hong Kong are Toyota Comforts, and all the Taxis in Macau are Toyota Camry. Taxi companies aren't stupid - they're not buying fleets of Hyundai and Kia where all their 4-cyl engines catch fire. Those heaps wouldn't last 3 years in Manila as a taxi. Sounds like your SR5 hasn't even broken in yet!!
@@austenrichardgeorge842 that’s cool! By the end of the year I’m planning to purchase a LC 200 (19-21) if I can locate one in great condition with reasonable miles and under $70k. Otherwise I’ll wait another year and purchase either the new GX or LC 250 once the kinks are worked out and more options are available. I will keep the 4Runner for everyday driving and home depot runs.
@@austenrichardgeorge842great perspective.
My 2017 has 78,000. I guess I’m in it for the long haul lol
The 4 litre engine is so good practically no Toyota technician has ever seen the inside of one after all these years
Your reviews never disappoint. Thank you for another well rounded review and looking forward to your next ones.
Great job as always Sofyan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sofiyan you are a BEAST!!!! Your presentation skills over the years have drastically improved. So very talented!

So much detail in such a short time with the vehicle. Great one.
I’ve been waiting for this…and came to you first for your review! 🤜🤛
It’s amazing that Toyota designed an all new 4Runner! I still think, personally, the current 5th generation is still my favourite, I think Toyota redesigning such a legendary name in the lineup is a great thing to see. You can still tell it’s a 4Runner, but I miss that 4.0L V6. That was one of the things that made 4Runners so cool, is that deep growl of the V6, the way it vibrates the chassis, and its lack of refinement.
How about 4.7 V8 in the 4th gen 4 runner? 😂😂😂 more displacement the better
Eh, we just need to be careful of who we vote for next time, and we won’t have to worry about undersized engines anymore…
Zzzzzzz
@@jtomtl forgot about that 😂😂 I always have grown up with people talking about the 5th generation all the time
@@TonyKimtheamusementparkfan 5th Gen is good, 4th gen is Toyota GX470, that was awesome
Limited looks like an old Sequoia with a handle bar moustache 😂
Awesome intro! Love the introduction to each vehicle.
IT looks Incredible
I'm SOLD
I've been waiting for the new 4runner for a few years now!! Can't wait to get it in a year or two!
So far this is the most fresh and comprehensive review of new 4Runner. Thanks 👍🏼
Take your time.... love the content 💯💯💯💯💯
That Trailhunter looks freaking awesome. This revamp makes me like the 4 Runner a lot more.
Fantastic initial overview. Can't wait for the test drive review!
Keep the videos coming! Your videos are always great and informative. Have you done a video of the new body style Mustang?
Thank you! And we have a full review on the GT trim from late last year and we just spent a week with an EcoBoost Mustang last week and that video should post later this month!
I’ve watched multiple videos of the 2025 4Runner. No one pointed out or recognized that the rear side windows are a throwback to the original 4Runner.
Mr Doug did
Good point! I love that detail. New designs always meet a little backlash, but I think Toyota did a great job of modernizing the design while keeping iconic 4Runner elements.
Doug did
Doug did
Kirk Kreifels did too
Great detailed reveal video! Thanks
When I first saw this, I thought this is what the love child of an older sequoia and older pathfinder looks like. But overall, I’m liking how it looks in the TRD pro and Limited Trim.
Love child? Trucks can't reproduce like mammals.
Congrats on 1M subscribers buddy! 🎉
Love your reviews!
4Runner has one of the most iconic designs I've ever seen. Great vid! Also I appreciate the cameraman's bloopers 😆
Good to see you back sofyan😊😊 Finally My retire camping offroad SUV!!! and it's Hybrid!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I’m so glad they updated it 😍
Amazing truck and a
amazing review! ❤
Great review! I can’t wait to see it in person
A much needed beautiful resign of the 4Runner, it’s about time! Also wow that’s a lot of truck based SUVs in the lineup
Great first-look video, Redline!!
that intro was smoothhhhhhh
Best reviews in the business👌🏻
Fantastic review! Looks good to me!! I’ll keep my 22 Limited for as long as it’ll run but I’m sure I’ll be eyeing this model in the future!
Thanks for the review. Does the Limited carry over the full time 4wd with a Torsen center differential like the previous Limited?
Love you reviews!
Excellent video❤
Great coverage with what little time you guys were allotted. 👍
Thx!!, Just loved it but hope the new engine and transmission are as reliable as old 4Runner!!❤️❤️👍🤞🙏💐✌️👌
I really like those colors!
Careful Rob. Still the absolute best reviews on CZcams. 🎉
Great video as always. Love it ..finally the front door window switches are lowered from the top molding to the mid door area
And full LED external lights?
Rear wiper now hidden. Yaay
Exhaust is now on the left?
Would have liked dual exhaust.
How many takes did you guys do for the intro? Fantastic work
Sofyan always coming through with the reviews! 👍
Looks good. Matches the Sequoia and Tundra. Probably safe to say the Rav4 will be a mini version of the 4Runner
Hot review! ❤
Absolutely love the look of that TRD Pro
The rear windows are a throwback to the first generation 4Runner
The thing is for people that put stuff on the roof, they need to very careful not to bump into the upper edge of that window.
that rear window has been on every gen. it nothing new
Looks great, but no V6 is a miss. I'm guessing the older model prices are gonna go up like crazy.
The best redesign EVER ❤❤❤❤❤ you did that Toyota 🥇🏆👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I’m excited for this!
Awesome variety of trim. Great car.
damn so many cars in one review! sofyan is on fire!
toyota has so many nice options, love it .
that’s looking nice, but 5th gen still good looking truck
Looks totally awesome, all of them!
That’s a lotta torque!!
Outstanding presentation
I enjoy the clarity of the new 360 monitor/camera set up unlike the 5th gen less defined picture
They should have just done a Capstone model instead of a limited model. I'm very pleased at the updates. But the only thing that is missing is a panoramic sunroof. I just hope the platinum trim doesn't run 60K. I might as well get a GX with that $.
I'm a fan. I kinda love the front end. That blue on the limited and those wheels are a good choice.
Almost thought Rob slid down a hill for second.
I like the limited look better exterior wise
I want that trailhunter that color in and out gorgeous ❤
i love the line up
Looks great!
I love the crown interior in the Limited trim, & the body color wheel watches look so much better imo. This new interior is much nicer than the previous generation
Am I the only that sees Isuzu VehiCROSS in the rear? Overall I can appreciate what it is and I think it will do a great job carrying on the name. Personally I am more interested in the potential small off roader (some people are calling it the return of the FJ Cruiser) that is supposed to be about the size of the Corolla Cross. Hopefully it comes to the US market.
Immediately felt vehicross vibes, but couldn’t remember the name of that vehicle. Thanks, was driving me nuts!
How about that camera work! The presentation was top-notch as usual. Awesome!
We very much appreciate the feedback, thank you 😊
Looks awesome
Miss the v6 though
Sick paint job on the TRD PRO
a lotta ppl dissapointed that its a 4 banger engine from what i heard
@@cloudchaser-wd5wp suuure
@@cloudchaser-wd5wp yeah toyota went backwards this time lol. id upgrade if they bring back the old engine.
@@cloudchaser-wd5wpwant the v6 engine back.
9:18 It’s time for a MUDBATH!!!! Shrek would be happy with that color so he can mud the heck outta the 4Runner😂😂😂
Toyota has been on a roll lately ever since they got a new CEO 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I think it looks great! A modern twist on an iconic design. The new doesn’t alienate the old 🙂. Awesome job, Toyota!
Man!! I was about to buy a TLX but that Trailhunter 🤩
Excitements ahead
Great looks ❤❤❤❤❤!!!!!!!!
I'll take one. Sign me up. Already have the new Tundra. Need one for wifey!
a little less ground clearance in the 6th gen. The cargo area appears less spacious or is that just because it was the hybrid model with the battery. Does that second row fold flat normally unlike the 5th gen with the seat backs against the first row losing that cargo space in between? Important if you are a camper like me.
Great presentation and excited for the product.
We’d appreciate you investing in a decent small camera vs shooting on an iPhone. The colors seem very off compared to what I saw on the other YT channels
It'll be interesting to see how much the 4cyl turbo affects the longevity of the vehicle. Overall it looks nice.
The old v6 was bullet proof. These overworked little 4 cylinders won’t last 1million miles, for sure. Looks amazing though.
mpg pig vs 326 horsepower, 465 lb/ft overworking little 4 cylinder
Love the limited edition nice look and interior. And it still be good for lite off-road and snowy weather. And it Toyota tough and reliable. 😂😅
stunning look
Love the Limited model... ❤
Love the look and the 4cyl, great video. I wont go for the TRD Pro though as I don't personally want a hybrid if that is all the Pro comes in.
Great job Sofyan! Lots of information to cover and you handled it well. I also think this new 4Runner and the new Land Cruiser are too similar which will result in one eating into the sales of the other. What does everyone else think about this? A great upgrade of both vehicles though despite the Land Cruiser moving down market versus the earlier generation.
I think the same as well. Idk why they even bothered bringing us this version of the LC. completely unnecessary
So the major difference is the LC have 6 more inches in height and a heftier 10-15k+ price tag but the engine are almost identical. I like the look of the LC more but I still think the V6 turbo on the Lexus SUV is the best.
I would group the 4Runner, LC/Prado, and GX as the same vehicle. They are on the same platform, share tech (models vary), share powerplants and running gear, even made at the same factory. So I don't think Toyota cares as long as they sell something with TOYOTA on the front.
Having said that, I think that there's enough of a following for each of those nameplates to have healthy individual sales for a while.
Toyota knows what they’re doing !
They also know how to jack up prices 😂😂
You are a very talented vehicular automotive presenter
I'm a Ford SUV, pickup all my life BUT Toyota is really stepping it up! I think my next SUV will be a Toyota! Love the new styling designs! I think being a City Slicker I'll go with the Limited trim! Enjoyed the overall view Sofyan! Thank you!
If you don’t go off-roading and you plan to drive in the snow, the AWD in Limited is the best way to go.
@@ryanb8736 I agree 100%. It would be city and lots of highway driving here in Southern California!
I've always loved the 4Runnner and I'm so glad to see Toyota didn't eff-it-up! 🙂 The other trims look cool, but I'm Team Luxury/Premium Package. I can't deal with the black fender flares, because it looks cheap-ish to me. Great video men, thanks for posting!
Do the seats fold down flat? With it being such a camping outdoor vehicle many people sleep in vehicle. I sleep in my rav 4 on a memory foam mattress. Because the seats fold basically flat
So what's the point of the Land Cruiser? Sizes are similar and the 4Runner will likely be $15k cheaper. I don't understand Toyota's logic with the new LC
Maybe they wanted to capture the buyer who is looking for a retro design like the Bronco? That’s the only reason I can come up with? 🤔
i don’t get it either. because the 4R even looks better than the LC and they have the same engine output lol.
It’s not a real Landcruiser. The Landcruiser 300 is an actual Landcruiser. But it’s not sold in the USA, unless you buy a Lexus LX or GX.
The logic is that they sell whatever they put out.
The Land Cruiser actually has leg room, I guess? 😂
Expect $8000 or more markup and 9.99% APR
No APR if you pay cash 😉 also gives you room to negotiate
8k mark ups and or 9.99% APR will not be sustainable a year in.
Drag racing? Sure, sign me up! ;) Nah, just kidding, really enjoyed your review man, keep it up!
I love Toyota's simplicity, and durability !!!!!!
No simplicity here.
Yeah, no. There is no simplicity in the electronics or mechanical systems in these new models. Not the same Toyotas. I just got a 23 Tacoma OR and am currently building it up and modifying it. Was waiting for this new 4runner release and can safely say we will be getting the last V6 2024 4runner TRD PRO for my wife now.
It's been known it was going to have a similar if not completely identical build as the current Tacoma 😂 idk why you guys expected something different@@erod6468
It looks so much better
Sold! I'll take one!
Nice introduction.
What colors does the TRD Pro come with?
