I have owned the 1st and 4th generation 4Runners. My 1st gen was unfortunately stolen and stripped. My 4th gen had over 305k miles and still going strong. I waited over 21 years for this 6th gen and it will fit nicely with our needs and in my garage.

It is kind of funny that off-road SUVs are so popular, when very, very few people actually need them. In America, if a road exists whether it's paved or not, it generally can accommodate any vehicle. I rarely go on an unpaved road, but on the few I've gone on my Honda Accord did just fine. The only time where I would really feel more comfortable in an off-road is driving through snow storms, but I put winter tires on my Honda Accord and have gotten through several huge snow storms just fine too. But off-road SUVs do look cool, I like them, and maybe every time you get in one you feel a sense of adventure. And maybe people just like knowing the capability is there even if they never use it. Kind of like having a gun in the house, you know there's almost no chance you'll ever have to use it, but nice to know it's there in case one day some crazies start coming through the window.
