Supercruise should've earned the traverse a point. It's a huge bonus.
A huge what? Oh never mind
TSS 3.0 is impressive as it uses Mobileye tech but I think Supercruise is a bit more advanced
If you need this you should not drive.
@@simonbrunet5605 nobody said anything about “needing” it.
@@simonbrunet5605that’s some dumb sht to say
I think the Chevy looks best inside and out
Hopefully the Highlander is a 300,000 plus miles engine, the Traverse. ..not even close.
I agree. The highlander should outlast the traverse. The most likely one to do that would be the standard hybrid since it doesn’t have a turbo
Of course the Toyota fanboys are all of a sudden praising hybrids and turbo engines for reliability. My Chevys have all been extremely reliable. Go look up modern Toyota reliability reports… they’re not doing very well. 2.5l GM is derived from a truck engine (2.7l) and I would expect it to be more reliable than the Toyota. Toyota has had lot of issues with their turbo engines lately, in fact, their only reliable one so far is the Supra because it’s a BMW lol
I would like a comparison with base models. Not everyone buys the higher trim level.
They’re all nice when they’re new. Look at 10 year old traverse vs 10 year old highlanders. That makes the decision easier. The traverse is good looking though.
I’d still take the Chevy. There are 10 year old traverses doing fine.
10 year old Traverses are still on the roads and look fine. The 10 year old Venzas look a raggedy mess.
Most people who buy these aren't keeping them for 10 years. I am sure some will, but most will not.
This was a pretty close comparison between two popular 3-row SUVs.
as a toyota fan
here is my message to gm
good job gm on making a good looking car
That is why i picked the traverse. GH is pretty boring
لكن بعد ١٠ سنوات بتشوف هيلاندر في اجمل حلتها بدون اعطال و الامريكي بالسكراب
Awesome video, especcially the dual screen comparison and the noise measurements. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
That was a great comparison! I ordered the Highlander but really like the newTraverse. I'm still driving an older model Traverse that has never been in the shop. I took the Highlander for a test drive expecting it to far exceed my older Traverse when it came to handling. Well my older Traverse still handles better and is also a smoother ride than the Highlander.
So if the highlander sucks why the heck did you waste your money ordering it ? “Reliability “??
Probably because of the new engine. The V6 was better.
@@Natethegreat200c My dad got a Grand Highlander hybrid for its MPG. It's rated 34-37 but my dad usually gets 35-45.
@@Natethegreat200c I ordered the hybrid looking for better fuel economy but the Traverse is so nice that I'll consider paying the extra cost for fuel.
That Chevy make the Toyota look like 10 years old car
Exactly
True.
Sadly the chevy wont make it that long
@@Dlust88 look like you haven’t own a Chevy before, cuz I still have my 2011 Chevy Tahoe with 185k miles
Any car makes Toyota look old
No wonder Toyotas no longer relevant
Grand Highlander my pick
Great review, as usual. Would like to point out that you didn't mention the front row (esp. driver) seating space. As somebody who is 6'5, I was very shocked by how little leg and shoulder space there is in the Grand Highlander. By comparison, the Traverse has an incredible amount of leg and shoulder space for the driver. I'm not sure if the space would be worth a half point, but the difference is tremendous for tall people.
Then there’s the issue you cannot find a Toyota GH Hybrid anywhere and the ones out there are being massively marked up. +10 Chevy.
Very informative video, just a request can you also compare one aspect of Night driving - headlights throw
This was my first time watching and yes, I'm now a subscriber. This is the type of car review I've been searching CZcams for. Thank you!
Great! Welcome to the Car Confections family!
Great review as always but I would focus on possible car seat set up options like the @ car mom does. The Traverse has more anchor points in the back row as an example.
Y’all say it’s boring looking but I think the grand Highlander is beautiful. It doesn’t look boring to me! Some of us are loyal to Toyota and love the product. Sure some things are outdated or look a little cheap but I’ll take it over any Chevrolet! The ones saying “it’s boring” good, don’t buy it so there more for the rest of us to get 😂😂. It’s classic Toyota which some of us love.
Classic Toyota... unimpressive design that blends into the background which equals boring. Some of us are loyal to Chevy and lover their products, have never had an issue with them and wouldn't dream of owning a bland Toyota simply because it's "reliable" and has better resale value.
I never understood that. Do you buy a Toyota to keep it forever or do you buy it to sell it in a few years? What's the point? Their all over priced and over hyped.
@@owleye4510 see, I disagree. I don’t think that’s an unimpressive design. Yes I do keep my vehicles long-term, my current Corolla has 126,000 miles on it and plan on getting it to 200 K. My whole family owned General Motors products, my mom drove a Buick rendezvous, I drove a Chevrolet cobalt, we also had a Chevy lumina. A GMC Jimmy. The list could go on and on, yes, a few of them were not too bad, however, all of them had at least one problem that took them off the road before 150,000 miles. The Buick had a blown transmission, my cobalt blew a head gasket, I’m not sure what the issue with the lumina was. I’m very glad that you’ve had good experiences with Chevrolet products. However, many people do not. Before you even mentioned it I do maintain my vehicle, transmission fluid every 60,000 miles, coolant on time. I make sure to take care of my vehicle. However, Chevrolet has not taken care of me at all.
Going over to the Toyota side I’ve had three different Toyota, all go over 100,000 miles and keep going with no problems whatsoever.
Stick with what works for you 👍🏻
Excellent comparison!
Top vs top trim I think the extra power and efficiency of the GH would win me over. But I'd assume you wouldn't have to pay MSRP for the Chevy. Base vs base trim though, the Chevy hands down wins. Over 5K cheaper and includes a massive screen, 360 camera, etc. Don't know if it comes with standard power seats or liftgate though. Either way the Grand Highlander base model is quite expensive....
Power lift-gate is standard on Traverse. Only the RS gets the powered third row seats.
I’m team Chevy but that grand highlander is no slouch… I say Chevy has this one in the bag of reliability is on par with the GH
Nah it’s still a Chevy. Reliability isn’t why people would buy it.
if you compare the lower trims then I guess Chevy has the best value.
Very impressed by the new Traverse. Though I would choose the G Highlander for long term ownership
7:40 I really appreciate y’all using the same track for the sound system to get a feel of the difference in sound better 👍🏽
Let's see an Enclave v. TX comparison next
Enclave has already wiped the TX out of existence
The comparison I’ve been waiting for 😊
Which one do you prefer? I like the Grand Highlander more of these two but I’d go Pathfinder in this segment personally
@@CarGeek360 Grand Highlander. We’re more used to Toyota and the Traverse loses its value and its very unreliable. (Also the Enclave isn’t that much more, and my mom said its really ugly 😂)
@@Car_conversati0nz this is an opinion you haven’t owned one so don’t speak on it
@@jamaricoleman1383 he’s entitled to his opinion and has every right to express it (especially in this case as his opinion was being asked for)
@@Car_conversati0nz makes sense, the Grand Highlander is fantastic but my choice in the segment would be a Pathfinder for less money, especially because I like the V6 and Pathfinder styling (exterior and interior)
Another decent comparison review gents. I think you left out the under floor storage in the chevy, and while 'not significant' and extra inch of leg room in 2nd row is huge when you are over 6' tall (like most my family.
One stat I would love to hear about is ease of getting into the 2nd row. I'm 6'3", and I can't get into 2nd row of a normal highlander without having to bend in awkward ways and then slouch when inside.
GM doing great cars
Gm has been coming out with some crazy good vehicles recently ngl
Toyota is for me. Just because the Traverse has good looks, reliability is more important to me.
Reliability is no reason to choose the GH over the Traverse unless you’re one of those people that believe that Toyota is the only manufacturer capable of delivering reliability today.
The standard hybrid would be the most reliable in my opinion. No turbo like the other engine options.
@@G-Ratedreliable vehicle is one of the largest decisions for me and the resale value which the Toyota has in spades. I’ve had my 16 traverse for 8 years but the transmission is blown at 150k and it’s only worth 3500 at this point. I’ll take a Toyota that’s going to last 200k-300k any day
@@G-Rateddumb comment.
Fantastic review. you glossed over that the Grand Highlander has ventilated 2nd row seats (Chevy does not). Is there any way to do a mother-of-comparison video somehow of all the comparable 3 row SUV adding in the like of: CX-90, Santa Fe, Palisade, Telluride etc...? Even if it's more numbers based incorporating your scoring methods (which are very useful). I think it would be great content and something I'm not sure is out there especially if you expand it to multiple segments. Just a thought!!
He did give the GH 1 point for ventilated rear seats and side window shades
Thanks! It would be difficult but we might be able to think of some way to do it
I think I prefer the GH H Max over the Traverse, but the Traverse’s standard NA engine is a little more powerful than the standard GH. To me it would come down to which one had the more comfortable driver seat, ergonomics, wind noise level, and ride quality. In terms of looks, I prefer the Grand Highlander’s aesthetic inside and out. It’s one of the best looking 3-row crossovers in my opinion.
Here in CA where the fuel price is $5 the regular Grand highlander hybrid is the answer. I just bought one and get 35mpg avg AWD model even. Slow speed city driving i see 40 mpg, 80-90 mph hwy driving 32 mpg..
BTW, love the scoring method!!!
Thanks!
My wife and I are proud owners of the exact same vehicle. We absolutely love it. Toyota hit the jackpot when creating the Grand Highlander Max Platinum.
Somehow Chevrolet has managed to make the Traverse look shorter than it actually is, from the side profile it looks much shorter than the Toyota GH even though it isn’t. It’s actually substantially longer.
You're not seeing any GH at MSRP. Lowest I've seen is $63000
Reliability and reputation should be more important than looks!
Well Toyota need to do better on their look and tech . Can’t be buying with all that money .
@@kromahjyea it’s a balance they need to fix other manufacturers are fast at tech but slow to fix problems some minor others mayor Toyota is fast in making cars last long but slow at keeping up with technology
@@octaviodominguez7772 every manufacturer have their own problems Including Toyota
Don't forget to add on the Toyota dealer markup/market adjustment of about $5k
Yeah thats a big issue with Toyota right now. There dealers are pretty scummy and they purposely don't keep as many vehicles on the lot to charge more to order them.
Sadly yes they need to fix that some how ,but in 5 years you loose way more than 5k value on the traverse in resale value compared to the grand highlander
There's dealers that sell Toyota's at sticker, you need to do some research.
@LoneWolfSparty of course there are some, I've done the research lol. But most are at or above msrp right now especially for the hybrid
Yeah but after a year you can get the Traverse for below MSRP so resale value ends up being a wash. Realistically, if you are good with money you can invest the 5K up front from buying the traverse and it will be worth way more than having better resale value by buying the Toyota. @@octaviodominguez7772
Bro I don’t want no Treverse ..I’ll keep my Toyota doesn’t matter what it got am good 😁
The new Traverse and the GH were my finalist for purchasing a new vehicle. I ended up choosing the GH Hybrid XLE because of its price vs features(base model had all the features I needed and saved me almost $10,000 off top end model) and the gas mileage(I'm get 37.1 mpg- with 65%city/35% highway driving) seemed to hit home for me. My family has owned a Traverse(Gen 2) and I loved it but the transmission problems we had(replaced transmission at 75,000 miles)made me hesitant to go all in on the new one. I don't think the consumer can go wrong with either of these choices in the segment.
I’ve had a traverse for 8 years and now the trans is bad at 150k miles. I’m going with the Toyota reliability on this one. Got. Toyota tundra for myself and this will be for the wife
I just wish the Toyota was better looking. The styling of Toyotas needs to be updated.
The base model comparison on what you get for your dollar will sway to Chevy for sure. The features that are standard seem to favor the Traverse. Would be nice to see that comparison. I want to see the Traverse at night to see its ambient lighting
Who cares about which has more gears? The hybrid provides torque fill which negates the need to have more gears
Thinking of getting either or but just have a few concerns with the traverse even tho I like it more is it going to be just as reliable as the Toyota ?
Chevy that Toyota looks old already the design been around a minute in the rav4 cause it looks just like a oversized rav4 smh
Virei fã do seu canal,um abraço de Brasil 🇧🇷 ❤❤
As a car design engineer (hybrid module) and working with almost all Americans OEM, for sure, I will pick Grand highlander. Nowadays, car companies try to hide their weaknesses behind technology and look at non luxurious Korean, American, and Chinese brands.
More Japanese propaganda folks…nothing to see here 🙄
I own two Highlander Hybrids, 2008 and 2012 Highlander. I've been wanting a new SUV but just can't seem to part with either of my Highlanders. The 2008 still gets 25/26MGP for a 16 year old SUV, and it's aged very well. I love the look of the Chevy even more than the Grand Highlander but the prices of SUV's have just got too out of control these days, having to shell out $60k for an SUV when I have two with rock-solid reliable paid off Toyota's is just keeping me from buying. I would never have believed anyone if someone told me that in 2024, SUV's we're still not breaking 20MPG in the city or even better gas mileage than a 16 year old Hybrid, I just can't wrap my head around it.
I have a 22 Traverse RS, it's great, never had an issue
On a ‘22 I would hope it wouldn’t have any issues.
@@whitemailprivilege2830the 2022 is nearly unchanged from the 2018 Traverse.
I like both of these vehicles, but I would ditch the hybrid max on the Toyota. I’d go with the Limited Hybrid. 35 MPG makes a big difference when comparing head to head. Slow and steady wins the race and less stops at the pump. When the Chevy gets a hybrid Z71 I’ll pull the trigger on that.
True but the hybrid max powertrain can do 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and still get 25mpg combined. Could be worth it for anyone seeking more performance. I'd assume the normal hybrid is 2 seconds slower to 60mph although you'd get about 8mpg more in the real world. Either way dropping 50K+ on a new car and worrying about mpg that much is slightly silly
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 can’t argue that the hybrid max is a good power train. All comes down to priorities and preferences. I’m closer to 60 than 30. Never been one to mash the pedal and give it the beans. In a perfect world I’d get the Lexus TX PHEV. Make my daily drive on Electric power only and still have a ICE for the 2-3 road trips out of state every year. I’d have to do a whole lot of miles before the $80,000 price tag paid itself off in gas savings. My biggest check marks are safety, reliability, comfort and cargo space. I’ll leave the drag racing to the young bucks. Still waiting on Subaru to put out a real Hybrid or EV I can live with. I got a few more years to see how the market shakes itself out. Main contenders right now are the Mazda CX-90 PHEV, the Toyota Limited Hybrid Grand Highlander and this Chevy Traverse makes a good case. (Just needs to catch up with a hybrid).
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 Cost of fuel sure adds up over a few years.. especially if you drive a lot. This is why i bought the standard hybrid. i see 33-42 mpg , avg 35-36
Plus, the standards hybrid will most likely be the most reliable since it doesn’t have a turbo like the other engine options
@@a6t8vw1 If you go by the EPA numbers, over a 100K miles you'll end up saving 845 gallons of gas by going with the normal hybrid over the max hybrid. Multiply that by the national average gas price of 3.65 and you get about 3K in savings over 100K miles. Not that significant at all if you can afford to drop 50K+ on a new car and insure it haha.
If you really care about saving money but a used car that offers 90% of these cars for 3/5th the price. Insurance will be less as well. That's how you save money if you really care.
The traverse looks way better than the grand highlander!
"12.3 inches is pedestrian"?! Why not just have a 42" LG oled tv in front. Autonomous operation? Pass...There will be an onslaught of lawsuits when people are injured or deaths as a result from these systems. What do you think is going to be the main engine bugaboo in a few years? Turbos, hands down.
The auto industry is creating their own problems for the future.
I would pick the Chevy traverse!!!
I think you missed 2 things on Traverse. Traverse does have a HUD and it also offers Power Outlet but behind the center console.
Traverse unfortunately doesn't have HUD
Put the toyota powertrain in the Traverse 👍
I wanna see one with a bench and if 3 car seats can fit on the same row
Isnt that circular thing on the chevy a foglamp? Or is it just a headlight?
Headlight
Going to test drive the 2024 Grandhighlander limited hybrid tomorrow
I'd take the 1) GMC Terrain 2) Chevrolet Traverse 3) Toyota Grand Highlander. GMC has the heads-up display, and both look better imho than the Toyo
I believe the Terrain is smaller so you would maybe compare the Acadia to it instead. Those are really nice too.
@@Kevin-mi2xj Yes, I misspoke

My only gripe is durability. Toyoda last very long time with very little issues. American brands prone to repair often
Toyota mutch better because more reability, durability. Because have hybrid system (more power and mutch better fuel eco.) Better resale value.
I love what Chevy has done with the Traverse but it's bigger than I need. Also love what they've done with the Equinox but too small for me. That leaves the Blazer and well, I'm just not feeling that one.
I drove to a Toyota dealer in Anchorage, Alaska this weekend, they have no Grand Highlanders available, but everyone has a Traverse.
There is no way im gonna pay almost 65k for a 4cyl chevy suv😢
Toyota has fallen off so hard. They finally had to modernize and it just killed everything that they were
the look , I with Cheve , the reliable and resale value , I 'll go with Toyota
GMs new 2.5l engine design is similar to Toyotas. Mechanic’s are predicting great reliability
We need that Chevy in EU
The SuperCruise on the Traverse is worth 2 or 3 points by itself if you do a lot of highway driving, it is the best hands free driving system out there easily over both the Tesla and Fords Blue Cruise.
So by my calculations the non hybrid grand Highlander Platinum would win by even more. Makes sense to me. Thanks 🙏🏻
There is no comparison. Chevy 1000 times better.
Honda & Toyota Hybrid , Nothing Else.
Interior and tech goes to the Traverse. Exterior will always be subjective but the power and torque go to the Highlander.
There's absolutely no compassion in looks alone; the Traverse wins that battle with ease...The Highlander is the Traverse's "DUFF"!!!
Question who breaks down ,,more,, during warranty 😂,,enjoy your payments 😂
I know most ppl think Toyota are the most reliable car company but I doubt that. I have a 2006 Toyota avalon, my father has 2006 Previa, 2016 Innova and we had so many issues during the year including losing the engine twice
Having a turbo and batteries in extreme hot weather in the middle east could have a lot of issues over the years (We do not have Grand highlinder at the moment and not sure if the dealer will provide it or not)
For the normal highlander (which is available) they claim the mpg is 45 mpg for AWD hybrid 2.5 l but the actual you would get is around 25
I have 2016 citadel V8 durango that is starting to have some issues and I am thinking of trading it for a new car
I did not like the Honda pilot (looks old) or Nissan Pathfinder (too small) or Mazda CX9 (captain chairs in the full option and gearbox issues)
I do not like the 4 cylinders, I think I might go with the 6.2 AT4 Yukun altough it is way too big for a daily driver
Or I might just fix the durango and get a small car for daily driving
What do you think?
Just get the Toyota and add the extended warranty
Make sure you tell your mother happy mother's Day and by the way I'm picking the grand Highlander. The Chevy traverse is nice but no no heated and cooled third row seats. Second row seats no he didn't cool and no rear window sun shades. I like it but it's missing all the luxury features that the Toyota grand Highlander have
Luxury features? The Toyota doesn’t even come with a driver’s auto dimming side mirror. It also doesn’t boast a semi autonomous driving system that will go around traffic all on its own, neither does the Grand Highlander offer power third and second row folding seats from the rear so you don’t have to walk around to do so manually in the rain. I feel that Chevy slightly understood the assignment better and which features to include to make for a better premium experience overall.
@@G-Ratedall those features but the resale is worse, mileage is worse and the Toyota will still be on the road when the Chevy is retired

Does Toyota make you pay for a subscription to use the key fob? If so, the grand highlander should lose points.
What's the specs for the 3rd row in the Traverse? Funny Toyota's highlander is actually more practical than their Land Cruiser.
always ask mechanics!
the Toyota is the better buy 10 times out of 10. Sales numbers will prove this
Sales don’t mean a car’s objectively better than the other
The 3rd row leg room, you are comparing grandHgh with Highlander not with Traverse
You should consider where the car was built. Toyota, built in Japan or the Transverse built in the US. Built in the US should get a full point. Also,?the Toyota looks dated.
Why not GLC 300 or XC60 instead of these ☝️
Pricey to buy. Pricey to fix
Toyota ❤❤
Easy to say both cars are awesome but i can never trust a medium size American suv’s tbh. One thing I hate is when car manufacturers place the screen with an angle excluding the passenger where he/she can easily change or adjust something
Hands down, I would purchase the Chevrolet Traverse. The Toyota does not look as nice as the Traverse when it comes to (interior and exterior). GM, home run!!!
You would choose looks over reliability?
@@romeou4965 A mix of both it isn't either or. Chevy looks much better in this case.
@@Kevin-mi2xj agreed can’t deny the muscular truck look of Chevy. And surprisingly reliability is comparable to Toyota SUVs
I’d have to go with the all new Chevy Traverse. I can live with its fuel economy and the lack of HUD or fog lights. It’s better packaged and the design looks more of a Lexus than the Grand Highlander for the same money. Reliability should be about the same but the maintenance on that hybrid could be more expensive over the years and I can’t stand living with a CVT transmissions or an ancient feeling 6-speed during my daily commute. I’ll take the better styling, better quality, similar reliability and better interior experience over one less trip to the pump easily.
I like the ventilated rear seats and sunshades in the GH but I prefer the second row in the Traverse and the way they’ve divided the storage between exposed and underfloor storage. There are some things I prefer to be tucked away and out of sight, so I appreciate that secret cargo behind third row in the floor. Getting Tahoe levels of power seat controls at the rear and Tahoe levels of space without paying Tahoe money.
The Platinum Hybrid MAX has a 6-speed, not CVT, btw.
The Grand Highlander doesn't have a CVT
