….And thanks for building with us!
The cable rail was already installed by the last video! I've now watched videos out of order and I'm totally lost on how to build a cabin. Please start over at the beginning...
Jaime for President
"See what I'm caulking about" has to be Jamie's best word play ever 🤣. It needs to go on a shirt with #letjamietalk
I would buy it
@@mikej5571 same
I’ve been buying cable rail from them for quite awhile and the crimpers and the cutters
They overnighted me a pair of replacement crimpers in a pinch to Massachusetts in the 11th hour on a Friday.
Bout 4 years ago. We’ll never forget that.
In a pinch! Nice one. Jamie would like that.
This was such an awesome install! We loved installing with you guys and getting to see all of our friends! Can’t wait to do it again!
The Cable Guy
15:26 the shade thrown was magnificent. He knows you like to borrow tools!
I am fully impressed! It’s just a complete czcams.com/users/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 plan with the best resources and step by step instructions . These shed plans are so satisfying as if the sheds build themselves on their own. Worthy work Ryan!
The Larry Haun references get me every time. The BEST of the BEST.
Man @ 12:38 that cable guy stopped you immediately and said no I'm married he is no nonsense cool much respect buddy much respect Erik thanks for sharing
Hahaha gotta stay loyal to my wife!
You could "practice " this cable railing on my house decks any time ,lols , 😆 This old Ladys hooked on your videos , Thanks 😊 😄 😀 👍 ☺ 😉
A compendium of knowledge and enlightenment greets me every time I visit Perkins Bros.
if you get one of those bit holders for the side of the drill, you can normally put the torpedo level on that with the magnets. best way i’ve found to drill level.
Love the shout out to Larry Haun 🤙❤️
Jamie, your demonstration on the cable spacing changing with angle was spot on. Genuinely was confused as heck until you got the jig out and then it all made sense
Jaime, I used to work for a precast concrete company that made the big concrete parts that make up the parking garage. They are called "T beds" and down in the vertical part of the concrete there are actually 5 cables that are 3/4" in diameter, which on either end of the big metal forms is a machine which tensions the cables to 2500 pounds. Everyone had to go outside when they were tensioning it. The more you know. Lol. Know but in all seriousness, thanks for everything you share man. I know we would get along great if we ever met man.
Also the cables have 11 bar tied to them also. Which is 30 ft long and 1 3/8" thick!!!
Hey thanks for the info, that is very cool
No problem Jaime. I figured you would get a kick out if that.
Didn't know Tom Hardy was into railing. Good content 👌
I used E-Rigging on my deck this year and it turned out great!
15:42 Check out that beautiful zip system. Excellent product!
Jamie your brain is forever working thank you for the tips always. Great company to work with installing cable for the decks & stairs. Great job boy's.
Putting a fender washer on the shaft of the drill bit will help keep you drilling level. If the washer moves towards the material, you are drilling downhill and likewise, if the washer is moving towards the chuck, you are drilling uphill.
UK here, what's a "fender washer". I appreciate a fender is what we call a bumper but why is the washer so specific?
@@philbarrett3739 fender washer is a large washer with a small hole, ex. 1 1/2" washer with 3/16" hole
@4:00 Jano, coming out with all the carpentry tricks, he just might be Arlo's long lost son.
Jamie should make a jig guide up for the spade bit, it’ll keep him too busy for bad dad jokes. 😂😂😂😂😂
I will get on that right away…:)
I noticed the wire cable in a previous video and thought it looked real sharp! I figured maybe I had missed the installation of it but I’m glad I didn’t!
Such a clean look.
Not only do I watch (& enjoy) your channel, but I also watch “Behind the scenes with the Perkins Brothers”. I must say after watching the behind the scenes footage, I find it absolutely amazing that this crew manages to get anything accomplished! You guys are always doing something goofy, having a great time and making me laugh! I hope you guys realize how lucky you are to be able to bond so well, get paid for it and get a modicum of fame! Hope you guys keep it up for many years to come!
That was a great idea attaching the level to the drills battery pack. I hope the tool manufacturers take note and add a built in level to their tools in the future.
I love watching your videos. My problem is that once I get binge watching them I forget to click the thumbs up button
Thank you for another excellent tutorial.👍👍👍
Where I live (Netherlands), you are not allowed to have horizontal fall-through protection because of the risk that kids could climb it and fall. Everything has to be either solid (i.e. glass) or vertically aligned! You would never see this method here ;)
What’s up with the dots above the E in your name?
Same here in Canada.
John-o, great idea on taping a level to your drill. You can always flip it upside down so the battery is facing the sky to get the level on top.
Jaime should take someone to a parking garage and try to play Dueling Banjos on the cables.
Any info on the stain color code used on the posts? I like the look
I think it’s a Sherwin Williams color called chestnut.
John: how about holding the drill upside down (with the torpedo on top) - would make it easier!
Eric, geometry is mind-blowing! Make sure your boys take lots of match, as I know it’s in your genetics with your dad being an architect.
To keep drill level , Put a Carabiner Clip on the shaft of the bit and if it is out of level it will move back and forwards.
Getting ready to do some cable rails. Will check them out 👍🏼
Always enjoy a good Perkins video
Nice video! For leveling horizontal when drilling, you can also put a washer around the drill bit to stay level.
Pro tip. Mark your holes with a template. Then drill from both directions and meet in the middle. It’ll avoid potentially running out at an angle. Also use a speed square to keep your drilling straight, level, and centered.
bosch make a combi (gsb 18v-150 c) that tells you when your drilling at 90 and 45
you can get drill bit guides that clamp to your material to ensure your are drilling in square to your material
I don't know about good ol' US of A, but here in Europe we have wood specific auger bits where the tip is like the spade bit, but then it transforms in an auger style drillbit. Neat stuff
I learn so many new things watching your videos. Keep doing gggrrreat work
I did one off these and drilled holes in my story pole. Clamp it to the post and drill through the holes in the story pole. Worked amazing.
"Goddd help me!". Same jason, same 🤣
Had a spade bit blow out the back of sliding door I installed once. Had to make a metal bracket to cover the damage. It worked out fine but something to think about.
I love the look of that kind of railing. Great Job, guys. Forney, TX
Good job. Keep the videos coming. Aloha from Hawaii
Like the new cable system, looks nice
Thanks Chuck
I call em Paddle Bits 😉
A Video from the Perkins Brothers and Team, a Wonderful Evening to Amuse 😂. The Cable Railing is good, not to Colour!!! 👍 I wish the Team a very good 4. July. 🥂
A magnetic 6" torpedo will lay flat on top of makita 18v drills perfect..
Great video gift for this 4th of July.
Instead of a level on the baterry, just put a washer on the bit, and drill making sure it does not slide
Noticing the difference between our countries. In Australia those cables around decking, if the deck is elevated at all they are banned, only approved to be used on a fence (other than a pool fence) because they are considered a child safety risk, little kids can climb them like a ladder and risk falling over the top. Great Videos Perkins Builder Brothers always watch.
Hang the level from the drill so it can hang closer to the bit for easier view!
Idea: Drill bit extension with a level on it.
I used to design and manufacture playgrounds. We have different standards for child safety. A horizontal rail is a ladder and an attraction for kids climbing. At that point your 30” deck height could exceed the 100g head blow for a fall over the top of the handrail.
G,day from Sydney Australia.
I like the handrail post tops: very nice.
🌏🇦🇺
Copper end caps on those tensioners would look great with those copper tops on the posts
@@johnlebzelter4208 I bet you lead a lonely life
Really like the finished look of that cable system.
FYI you measured different spacing on the jig setup! might have thrown it off a bit but very cool tutorial! Cheers!!
Lol I think the only way to get the same spacing on slopes is to for three cable to be offset from the one above it. Same as when doing concentric conduit offsets.
Jaimie jokes/puns are on another level in this 😂
Happy 4th of July as usual great video I always learn something new by the way the House is looking great well done Chaps God Bless all Cheers 🪜🪚😃😄😎🦘🦘🇦🇺👍💪👍💪❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺👍
I truly love your videos. Besides learning new things I am always impressed with how much all of you seem to enjoy what you are doing.
Great Job guys!
Greetings
Baaah! Michael J Caulks!
a good invention, a built in spirit level on your drill..
3:54 I bet Jaime could make a great jig that clamps on the post and guides the drill bit orthogonally. Are you reading this, Jaime? Come on, man, it would be epic!
Yes I think I could do that… hello
Turn the "Drill Leveler 2000" upside-down. Maybe? I did actually like the idea of the level. Lol
So happy when your videos drop!
Bring back the straw hats on the merch store. I need a fresh one for my house project.
Love this channel. Please hold on to your crew! The dynamic is perfect and so entertaining.
I love your channel and I’ve learned a lot from y’all. You were an inspiration for my own channel.
Very cool I will check it out!
@@jaimeperkins9606 Thanks any help would be great 🙏🏻
Love your work 👍
Love those cables
Wow great video guys let it rock again winner winnner UK
I did the math about your problem with the angled cabling. Say 2 parallel cables enter with spacing of x. Then they go down at an angle of alpha (spanning a horizontal distance of L und a height difference of H). Then the distance y between the two cables will be smaller, the steeper alpha is. The exact formula, I am pretty sure after some doodeling, should be: y = x * sin( 90° - arctan (H/L)). And yes, that is geometry and you cant change it with trickery ;)
Thank God
Happy 4th Jamie, Jason, Ray, Johnno, Eric, Argo and the rest of PB the crew! Keep up the great content!
Hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th 🎆🎆
The code in our area: ballasters must be vertical to keep children from climbing up and over. Stay safe
10:12 I would think it also help to keep the rail from sagging as well.
Good video about installing cable railing! Happy 4th of July guys!
im surprised they dont make a templet for the holes instead of using a story pole. maybe a cool idea you could relay to them?
yeah just something like a standard code height layout templet would be great i think. anyways happy 4th and love your guys content keep em coming!
OMG Ray do we need to call BeckAAAA to squeeze those vice grips for you?
15:37 There are no problems, there are only situations needing a solution.
Excellent info- love the rat tail clean out!
But why don't you just make a jig to drill out the cable holes- wouldn't that be easier than keeping it level and square to the post?
You would think so but, sadly the two opposing faces of a treated post are not usually parallel with each other. I’m sure I could make a jig that would account for that though
Brad point bit for a nice clean cut and no wandering.
Great to see u guys back missed your videos have u got any new houses starting soon.
Question for Eric or Jamie have u ever built or would u ever build a log cabin. Keep up the great work and amazing content
I have never built a log cabin. I have some reasons for that..
Those pencils aren't free anymore!!! I would get them by the box full from my local lumber supplier, since this virus I've been having to to them from the box stores!!! So you bit I use them until the very end!
Man I am sick of the lead times on materials. Windows especially. 22 weeks. I see you went on and continued with finishing interior.. I suppose that will be the new normal. Thinking of using r back zip and not cutting out opening till windows arrive and zip tape it to keep it dry on my project. Got to keep moving forward. Love the content.
This looks so good! I wish code would allow it here in Ontario. No horizontal members allowed within 5” and 34.5” on our railings. Railings required @ 24” minimum height of 36” up until 5’. After that the minimum height goes up to 42”
"Nah I'm married" haha that was a great reaction!
those buttons on the posts remind me of Frankenstein's contact points on his neck 😂
good job
Use the drill upside down Einstein. Then the levels on the top
00:02 Cardinal Coffee!
Highly recommend checking out cable bullet
Nice video 👍👍👍👍
I have had issues with those copper post caps, after a summer or 2 in the sun the adhesive bond is compromised and the caps come loose. I have used construction adhesive in the past, next time I am using Lexel.
use a dowel screw. drill a small hole on center of both the cap and the post. screw the dowel screw in to the post with a pair of vice grips, then simply spin on the cap.
