How did they get the nails started in the first place

I’ve seen in the past builds you like to use flour to mark your footings before digging. Have you ever looked into a walk behind chalk box like those used on baseball diamonds to apply the flour. Just a thought.

You could build on a site like that without all the compaction, but you'd have to put supports down to bedrock, which would still be the best thing to do. Torrential rains can undermine a building very quickly. I also hope the house isn't in an earthquake zone; not even with a rare chance! If the owner wants it stand 'forever' ....

Hey guys, on the next job you say your going to rent forms and pour concrete walls. Being a retired Union Carpenter who dis mainly concrete forming and working with concrete, be sure to not take lightly how much skill is involved in vibrating forms correctly. Know the slump, and aggregate size, and depending on how tall your walls are, know how long to leave the stinger in mud. I've formed many 30ft high walls up to 3 ft thick on commercial jobs and the vibrators are rum by Union Laborers who do nothing but vibrate concrete walls, and they still have bad days where they leave pockets. Those are mainly around big conduit sleeves, and block outs. Anyway, just reed up on how to do a good vibration based on the science of your concrete with retarder and additives, etc, and the size of your aggregate.

WELL... I've got to admit, I'm totally confused. Having an extensive surveying background, I would have laid it out using a total station; pinning every corner, along with anything else you wanted to locate. You can buy a good machine to meet your needs for a couple thousand dollars these days, and they will save you money....

Smart move to wait until after the rain to start digging. You're saving the owner between 3 to 5 yards of concrete on the footers. I've seen the damage rain can do and you definitely do. As a ready-mix driver trying to explain to the owner that they weren't shorted on the concrete,well you've been there
