The running joke about the moose is great
As a Terry Pratchett fan....
"Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it"
Alright, We BEGGED for series X from the RD crew, we wrote, we tweeted, we pestered, we won. Enjoy! 10, going forward are some of my favorites, and I never would have believed that after Back to Earth in 2009!
LOL thanks bud =]
I love season 10. A return to form after Back to Earth. Also it's not a laugh track, they've always filmed in front of a studio audience so it is an actual audience reaction rather than canned laughter.
I thought season 8 was laugh track but everything else was live?
Series 7 and Back to Earth were not filmed in front of an audience. However, they did show the footage of Series 7 to an audience to record their laughter, and then edited it in.
@Beezy:
No, series 8 was filmed in front of an audience.
Would have preferred no laughter track at all, studio audience included
Missed out the bit where he goes... 'but you were an utter twwwat!' lol
You could tell exactly where the Moose Gag was going, yet doesn't stop The Cat saying it any less funny! 😂
Series 10 is when Doug Naylor really found his stride. The show took a hit after Rob Grant left, but this is when it finally starts to feel like proper Red Dwarf again.
Yeah, it’s the kind of back-to-basics that I didn’t think would work, but they finally found a good balance of the disparate elements the show has had over its many evolutions.
Lister spending the whole episode on the phone to that shopping channel was just brilliant! 😁
LOL that was great.
“I’m going to get the phone!”
Red dwarf introduced me to everything Sci fi and comedy as a kid in the 90s 😁
Oh, I LOVE Series 10. It was nice to see Back To Earth, but Series 10 truly felt like a return to form with the Boys from the Dwarf.
Trojan took time to get going but once it changed into a higher gear, it was a fantastic episode of Red Dwarf. One that set the standard for the rest of this series, felt worthy of classic Red Dwarf, and proved that the show would have a bright future on Dave.
I really liked Series 11 & 12 but Series 10 was peak Red Dwarf in the Dave era for me. Especially the finale The Beginning (one of my Top 10 episodes).
What happened to the Hollister and the rest of the crew after series 8? Did they die or drift off into space? Or both??
@@markdavidson9100 An excellent question! 🤷♂️
The Rimmer in back to earth and forward is the human Rimmer from season 8. Rimmer just died again at the end of season 8. OG Rimmer is still out there been Ace
Correct. He does not have the memories/experiences of the hologram Rimmer from series 1-7.
Naylor said that he's OG Rimmer, as Dave Dwarf is a soft reboot.
IIRC there was originally a planned episode to explain the "alternative universe / RD getting blown up/etc" thing.. But it was off the air so long, and when the Dave Channel picked it up, they just didnt care, and just wanted it to go back to normal (apart from the awful back to earth special)
Yessss, back to regular Red Dwarf, I love series 10, 11 & 12. Brilliant return to form that's been missing since season 5
I think to be fair back to earth was a bridge and a pilot for further full seasons ahead. Not one of my faves, but it did the job. I might be wrong, but for a digital channel, it got nearly 3 million viewers. Also the co deal with babycow helped its budget moving forward.
Personally I love the Dave era. There’s quite a lot of snobbiness with red dwarf fans. The next episode they release could easily be the best/funniest episode ever but people will still say it’s no better then any episode from season 1-6
Best/funniest is subjective, nobody is right or wrong when it comes to comedy. You either find it funny or you dont.
@@Rocket1377 ok. So I don’t think u understand the point I was trying to make. Never mind
I remember the fans complaining and criticising series V for not being as good as series III and IV. It’s always been the way! I’ve watched every series on first broadcast and there are some golden episodes in the Dave era. Lemons is one of my favourite episodes of all time.
It's not snobbiness... It's just that there's this noticeable change in the tone of the show from series 7 onwards, even more so since Back to Earth. For some of us it's just not quite the same somehow, and I've personally never been able to put my finger on the exact reason.
I say this as someone who came to Red Dwarf well after the original 1 to 8 run had finished, first seeing them on Dave in about 2005 and I definitely picked up on the changes then, so it's not just out of nostalgia for the early '90s or anything like that.
That's not to say series 10 and onwards don't have their moments. Lemons is definitely a standout for me, and is probably the one that best captures the feel of the earlier series.
ALWAYS enjoyed all red dwarf but really enjoyed seris 10 11 12 glad you enjoyed it :)
I crack up when Rimmer glitched 🤣
Back to being really funny again!
These later series are great, no idea why no one talks about them
Cyborcat pointed out that the sim female uniform includes a fanservice corset. I told her I'm not joining any Space Corps unless they have that rule.
I enjoyed Back to Earth for its Pathos but, after a slightly shaky first few minutes this was a great comeback for the show.
Others will probably point this out but the show was recorded in front of a live studio audience as the actors feel this helps them raise their comic timing and delivery.
Told you i always come back 😂
If you actually thought back to earth was good, you’re in for a treat!
Will have to start the full eps for a laugh-a-long again on your Patreon with this shows heyday seasons 3-6 😂
Always amazed when people don't regard S2 as peak RD. (also amazed when they do regard S6, but each to their own...)
@@ItsTerryTime
S2 was good, just for me growing up around that window I soaked those seasons up far more
Time, place and space
Just glad we all enjoy the show even if for different reasons 😊
@@ItsTerryTime Norman Lovitt is amazing. But red dwarf consists of Lister, Rimmer, The Cat and Kryton, considering season 2 doesnt have the main cast and season 6 does albiet without the titular ship, 6 is definitely more Red Dwarf than season 2
@@more-reasons6655 I guess it's all perspective, isn't it? I always thought of post-S2 as "not quite" Red Dwarf, with Kryten introduced because the writers admitted it was easier to write with him in it. Still good, though, but there's a lot of classics in S2. I'd take the middle four episodes over anything from S6.
Where's 'Only the Good' and 'Back to Earth Part 1'? 😊
Although I did enjoy Back to earth, from this point on, in my opinion, the series gets better and better. The acting has matured and it plays into the scripts. You will always get those who don't appreciate the show after Rob left and they're entitled to their opinion but these next episodes had me in stitches and that's all you can ask of a comedy.
I'm right there with you. An ex of mine and I were trying to watch the new one and I fell asleep at the beginning. I have never tried again since
I quite like S10-S12... they're like "bonus" episodes. It's not like S8 when it was plummeting the depths, here they're all old men wearing wigs (not sure if Rimmer's is a piece here or the following series, but it's very good) and it's like a farewell tour or something. Even if it's a crap one, it's something that wasn't likely to exist, so it's okay. Like a free extra meal.
And........ you've never seen Blade Runner?
love series 10 and 11
Not many seasons left, will you be doing movie aswell? Or I should say, have you done the movie one?
It’s not a laugh track. They had a real audience for these
Definitely watch Blade Runner, that movie and Alien were the biggest influences on Red Dwarf.
Same my guy! Big love of Sci-fi but Blade Runner, for like a decade or two every time I tried to watch it I was asleep within the first 20 minutes. It wasn't until the sequel came out I forced myself to watch both and honestly... I should have just rewatched Red Dwarf for the umpteenth time! hah. Just some things that doesn't leave an impression, right?
I was the same way with Babylon 5 growing up, but that when I got around to watching maybe 3 or 4 years ago, I adored it. As a kid, thought it was cheap Star Trek wannabee, As an adult, it's a masterclass that holds up on its own.
Only thing I would've liked to change is Rimmer and his bro having a bit of closure instead of just Rimmer being a smeghead to him. Still absolutely love this episode though.
They actually did scrap the laugh track, they announced tickets for sale for all of the recording of series X
Can someone explain how suddenly there is all this human interaction with red dwarf? I thought they were 3 million years into deep space
If you watch the episode in full it explains both the call centre (androids) and Howard Rimmer's arrival with in universe explanations.
They have been heading back towards Earth for 20 years now. Any news, broadcasts, mail or ships that left Earth after them would only be seen now
It's why most things they see are from their time period and why they keep receiving 'new' mail
As an OG Red Dwarf fan from the original run in the 1980s, I obviously view series 2-4 the most as that was the golden era for me. Having said that, some of the episodes from 10-12 are excellent. Lemons is one of my favourite episodes of all time.
5 and 6???!!
@@lillired857 5 was viewed as very hit and miss at the time and 6 wasn’t particularly well received either. There are a few dud episodes in both series.
@@lillired857 Not as strong as 2-4
Shame that Chloe Annett Kochanski was retconned out.
👌😂😂❤
you cant call yourself a sci fi fan and not have watched blade runner. That's like being into had rock and not having heard of ACDC.
Ooooo check out mr gatekeeper over here, thinking they are the deciding factor for what makes someone a sci-fi fan
Tried watching blade runner about 5 times. Not 4 me
Don't watch Blade Runner, read 'Do Androids Dream of electric Sheep', and give us a book review.
Do both! Great book, great film.
I will check that out =]
@@bluecheese1066 Yes.
Call yourself a nerd, and you havent seen BladeRunner? SHAME ON YOU!! :D
A surprising number of Red Dwarf fans hadn't seen Blade Runner when that aired.
@@obsoleteworlds I was joking. But I still find that shocking.
LOL I know I need to check it out.
the lowest of the low series 9 has passed...thank god, I have only watched from series 10 onwards once but anything is better than 9...I don't find 10 onwards all that good but they are decent, its almost like they tried hitting the heights of series 3 through 6 but went slightly overkill like series 8 with the humour acting.
what I mean is they are clutching at straws to make it funny here, in 3 through 6 you had intrigue and humour...7 had more intrigue than humour but I do like 7 because of the explanations and sci fi stuff...Lister is his own father ect...like I say I feel these are decent installments but not the height of where the series got to.
I haven't seen blade runner either, i heard its a bad film
"Don't worry about plot holes"
There can't be plot holes if there's no plot
Seriously, from now on you have a shell of the old formula circa seasons 3-6 with no rhyme or reason given, but they're still better than BtE and Season 8.
Huge Red Dwarf nerd here, I'd never seen Bladerunner either, always put off by the gloomy miserable aesthetic.
After Back to Earth came out I went and watched it to understand the references, it unfortunately still does nothing for me.
