He should of watched the tower block of dreams documentary first, then watched the webepisodes on CZcams of people just do nothing and then watched the series, You'll understand everything and who everyone is so much better and enjoy the show alot more.

Though people who aren't from the UK &/or not familiar with the English sense of humour get many of the jokes it can be difficult at times to pick up on the more nuanced aspects humour in the word play, the personalities & relationships.

"Bear" means many/lots. E.g. "bear people"

On the subject of David Jason playing old folks, he was originally cast as Cpl Jones in Dad's Army. Someone at the BBC overuled it and cast Clive Dunn because he was known for playing older guys. Was before Porridge, of course. Late to the day, and maybe you'll never see this. Maybe you knew it.
