I was lucky enough to be at that PPV event in St. Louis with my best friend when Kane made his debut. When the lights when out and everything turned red, we both looked at each other and said "KANE!" Hearing his theme song for the first time and seeing him, live, in person was a jaw dropping experience. One of my favorite moments ever at any wrestling event I've gone to. By the time we left, we realized the name of the PPV "Bad Blood" was appropriate on multiple levels.

People bought into them being brothers for real. I knew a big name wrestler in the WWE at that time and knew it was Glenn Jacobs. I knew he had been Diesel and The terrible Isaac. When people found out I knew the guy the first question I was asked was “ Are Kane and Undertaker really Brothers.” Aside from my friend, Kane is my all time favorite wrestler. He’s a real nice guy. I remember the first time I met him. I’m 6’ and this guy towered over me and was huge! My friend told me that Kane was one of if not the strongest guys in the WWE. Perfect guy, perfect gimmick, perfect build up to him coming in and he was a hit from the minute he came on screen. Showing off Kanes ungodly power on RAW the next night was a great idea too. The way he tossed and pressed guys over his head like children was a great way to show how he had would destroy the Undertaker given the chance. The only thing is I think Kane should have gone over on the Undertaker their first match. In other words have a Match before Wrestlemania where Taker loses.

On a different note I wanted to get this off my chest and see what people thought bout it. Please read, sorry about the length but I think I have a really good point. I want feedback. Finn Balor, while I understand his desire to be known for his own wrestling and not a gimmick, which is why he has all but abandoned the paint job, I feel like he has missed a really rare and unique opportunity to do what only a very few handful of wrestlers have done through out the past forty years. Single handedly build a legend that is only reserved for the likes of Sting, early Kane, Undertaker, honestly that's really all that comes to mind. Being able to become the boogey man of the WWE. Only come out in the paint, NEVER speak, never promo. Just show up the way Sting would back in 1999. He could still do this. Obviously not do it exactly the same way. Come up with some ideas, but the point is to create something unpredictable. "Will The Demon show up tonight?" They ask not because the may get Balor, but because there is no balor with out the demon. And given his injuries, it would keep him out of the ring for awhile. Which is actually great. Sting didn't wrestle much when he dawn the black and white paint. He because the hottest thing in wrestling of all time. The most desired, the most loved, and you only saw him pop up to put a stop to something he wasn't cool with, then he'd strut off quietly and slowly. It was great. What Balor has with his alter ego is a chance to build something even bigger and far more mysterious than Sting himself. More intimidating than Kane was when he debuted. (Kane was the only character to ever legitimately scare me.) Never saw anything like him. No one ever saw anything like late 90's Sting. And certainly no one has ever seen anything like Balor's Demon. I get it though. He doesn't want to be a gimmick. But if he does it right, it will never be seen as a gimmick, it could be legendary. Sting was never looked at like a gimmick once everyone got used to the whole "Crow" thing. No one would have Sting any other way. Shame no one has told Balor this. He's amazing on his own. Could carry a five star match when ever he wanted. But the Demon, could make him unforgettable for the next 50 years of wrestling. Even if he's not wrestling. Be elusive Balor. Embrace the demon. Every generation has a boogey man in wrestling. Late 90's it was Sting. 2000's it was Kane. It could be the Demon now. If done properly. And handled by Balor himself. No writers. Kane had no writers, Sting had no writers. They knew what they wanted to do with their characters. This needs to happen. There needs to be that one guy, that doesn't go for titles, or promos, or tv time. He needs to be a myth with in the wrestling world. Thoughts?

Bruce is wrong. KANE never wore a cape on tv. he wore it for some house shows which are hard to find pieces of footage but never wore one on tv and the voice box came in 1998 just before king of the ring which was about 8 MONTHS later. not years. sorry but Ive followed Kane's career prertty close

I've always assumed the name Kane was derived from the bible story of Cain and Abel, given that Cain eventually murders his brother

SkinCarver he had no cape when he debuted at hell in a cell. He had no cape on any Monday night raw after. I mean there might be a picture but when did he ever wear it on tv? That’s what Bruce implied

    • @skincarver1797

He didn't wear it on t.v. Bruce is wrong. He did wear one but for a very short period.

The character and story was great but then once again WWE tried to mess all that up with their typical continuity errors in their stories and destroying characters.. like in 2002 with the Katie Vick shit and then the way they handled the unmasking a year later. Then numerous other things since then

I'm sorry, but Bruce is wrong. Kane never came to the ring with a cape on TV. I watched WWE religiously during Kane's debut, and when I first saw the picture of Kane with a cape it surprised the hell out of me.

He always had long hair!!!!! They had shaved his head before the show so obviously he couldn’t come out with no hair. So that mask had hair attached. So people didn’t think something was up.

Hot take: the angle with Kane is the ONLY time I've ever enjoyed the Undertaker. Look, I respect the man immensely, but I hated the character because he felt phony and was unbeatable. KANE was the first and only time I thought, "Oh shit....an even more OP'd character. Go Taker!"
